Chapter 50: The Hunt

The Main Character Goes Brt! Brt!

It follows the journey of Aster Densworth, an unknown kid with an unknown background, as he enters the Sorcery Academy completely alone, with no one to help him, relying solely on his own skill.

On his first day, Aster showed his incredible skill in front of Class 1-A after someone from another class tried to pick a fight with him.

A calamity magnet.

Aster was bound to meet some trouble because he’s the main character, but his first month has been nothing but fun.

Harassment follows him in his first week. In his second week, things get heated as Aster is kidnapped under Fergus’s orders, with Fergus using his family name to do his dirty work before confronting Aster himself.

Without the help of Melissa, Willow, and the other main cast, Aster wouldn’t have been found out.

This assault on Aster continued happening until he finally snapped and had enough of every torment he was receiving.

On their second confrontation after being cornered by Fergus, Aster managed to complete the advancement ritual for his Five Swords of Chaos and destroyed the outer part of the academy’s gymnasium, hurting students along the way.

Without Ulrich, the homeroom instructor, and Meister, the instructor for the Flame Conjuration Spell Class, Fergus would’ve already been dead.

’Ugh, just thinking about it really makes my blood boil. The hate I have for this novel is justified! Stupid title! From 0-100 power scaling right away! Who wouldn’t talk shit about it?’

Cillian remembered the time he read the novel where Aster has a sudden power up, he’s secretly a Ruiner, blah blah, reaching an unprecedented strength amongst his peers. This made the author suddenly explain the power system here and there, which was so messy.

Cillian clicked his tongue and looked at Aster’s stupefied expression.

’Why is this overpowered bastard being worried for? Well, he might not be that much overpowered like the ones I’m thinking about since the only opponent that made him use a quarter of his power is Fergus, a student. He’s also a student as well. But still!’

Cillian made a strange face as he moved closer and tapped Aster’s shoulder.

Making a face as if he were about to regret his words, Cillian said in a strange tone.

"Just do your thing and go wild."

’Go wild and slaughter those opponents for me.’

Cillian mused inwardly as the corner of his lips grew wider.

There was one particular reason why Cillian exposed everything he knew about the attack.

So that Aster can be aware of those who are targeting him and slaughter them, like how a main character should do.

"Go...wild?"

Aster asked, his stupefied expression fading as he removed Cillian’s arm from his shoulder before continuing.

"Have you lost your mind?"

Cillian feigned ignorance and laughed weirdly, avoiding looking at Aster’s eyes as he felt like he had said the most embarrassing thing he had ever told in his entire two lives.

’Did I just support this bastard?’

Cillian mused inwardly.

However, Aster was different.

For some reason, Aster didn’t feel any malice or found their conversation corny.

It was oddly reassuring.

Aster never once thought that he would have this kind of impression of someone he once considered his enemy after the bad history between their groups

’He’s completely different from the rumors surrounding him. Even Melissa said he changed.’

Aster chuckled, thinking about it.

Slam—!

All of a sudden, the door slammed open, revealing Vin from outside with a stunned expression.

"Cillian, those people you mentioned! They are here!"

Aster glanced at Cillian, who suddenly removed the stupid face he was making before slowly standing up.

He grabbed the issued bow from the academy beside his bed, put the quiver behind his back, and immediately got out.

Aster and Vin followed behind him.

...

Students ranging from first to third years were all gathered around doing formations and supporting the instructors who put themselves on the front line, ready to conjure any spells at any second.

In this ground complex, it was easy to get surrounded. But because everyone is inside their encirclement, worrying about a student is something they can set aside. All they had to do was put their focus on defending the students.

"They are even nastier seeing them here."

Cillian calmly said while looking past the encirclement, where dozens of people in black robes stood still, each striking their own poses to show off and aura farm from the people watching them.

’What is this, a show for crazy people? Bunch of weirdos.’

Cillian wanted to laugh at the situation, but he couldn’t, as some of those people had killed him throughout his journey on his own Death Flag.

Some are familiar, and some are not.

Some are so familiar that Cillian was glaring at one of the unknown individuals with red pupils, the criminal who killed him at Death Flag Probe #1.

’That soul-sucking dude killed me fifteen times.’

The moment Cillian was touched, even though he tried to defend himself, that individual managed to kill him every single time.

’Unofficial Ruiners.’

Oddly enough, this individual with red deep pupils moved forward with the rest of his group, acting as a leader.

With an artifact in his hand, the individual revealed information about himself.

"I’m the Captain of these miserable individuals."

[Death Flag]

Captain.

That was only it.

Yet one could feel the disturbing authority he carried as he spoke with the dangerous individuals behind his back.

"I’m honestly surprised how you managed to uncover our attack. The spy I planted must’ve made a mistake and gotten cocky. But mistakes like that are natural."

His eyes, full of madness, seemed to turn into a crescent shape as if he were amused by the situation before he spoke in an even tone.

"I’m only going to say this once. I promise you safety if you hand me over the student Aster Densworth."

The Captain paused.

"If you’re not going to give him, we’re going to slaughter every single one of life we see here."

That wasn’t a warning but a certainty.

The Captain, who spoke with confidence, made sure that his message was sent properly, and properly he did.

The instructors remained in their positions, unfazed by the threat they had just received, since it was their duty to protect the students in the Academy.

However, the same couldn’t be said for the students, who heard the Captain’s words loud and clear. These students, who knew of Aster since he became famous for beating the shit out of Fergus Viola, directed their gazes toward him.

Aster subconsciously tightly held the sheath of his sword, placed on his waist.

He thought the pressure would only come from the Captain, but he was also feeling it from the students’ eyes as they looked at him warily and distanced themselves from him.

Those who didn’t know what actually happened began to look at Aster as if it were his fault that everything had become a mess. Their eyes judged him, and their small twitches and actions showed they were on the verge of doing something they would definitely regret.

If they could ensure their own safety by handing over a single person among these unknown individuals, would they have the resolve to do it?

For most, they would definitely have. They are human, after all.

However, only one person, who understood how these people worked, didn’t believe any of their words.

"Slaughter?"

Two people didn’t distance themselves from Aster as Cillian and Vin remained standing right beside him.

Cillian, on the other hand, started talking with the Captain.

All attention towards him.

"We have instructors who can protect us! You think they’ll just let you come in here and take Aster? Afraid of getting killed by them, huh?! Besides, how could we believe your words of safety when a second later, you’re going to slaughter us! You have brain damage or something?!"

Cillian tried to wake up the students not to believe their words as he spoke confidently about their instructors, even though he’s also pretty shaken on the inside.

’Yes, we have instructors, but I don’t know if they are capable enough. The only ones I could count on, in my opinion, who are skilled to fend off these lunatics are Darwin, Ulrich, and Meister. Well, I guess I just have to trust these adults?’

Wearing a crooked smile, Cillian added.

"So yeah, we are not giving you Aster Densworth, Captain! Just return to where you come from! Let’s not make this a big deal at all. Yep, go back! Shoo!"

The Captain watched Cillian from afar, quite confused why it was a student who was trying to talk with him.

Then, anger rose within his heart as he clenched the speaker artifact in his hand and shouted into it.

"Do you have what it takes to protect those students, instructors of the Sorcery Academy?! Do you know what it means when I say we’ll slaughter everyone here—"

"You’re so fucking loud! Even with that artifact, you can speak just fine, so why not bring it down?"

"..."

The Captain was beyond stunned.

Once he knew that he was getting over their heads, Cillian gave the Captain a mocking smirk before putting his hands in the air and raising both of his middle fingers.

"This kid...! I’ll fucking kill you—"

The Captain had to abruptly stop communicating when two people right beside him died after meeting spells from hidden attacks nearby.

They couldn’t even protect themselves due to the surprise attack, but it made Captain aware of the danger.

"Tsk!"

He quickly made a decision and focused entirely on defending himself against the academy instructors which are Darwin, Ulrich, Meister, and Zeist who had cornered him from all sides.

"Now!"

The instructors surrounding them launched an attack against the other black-robed individuals, while the four instructors who initiated the ambush attempted to kill the Captain.

"You asked for it!"

There was a crazed smile appearing from Captain’s lips before he shouted.

"Entrapment Activate!"

Spells bombarded the Captain, but he was skilled enough to dodge three out of the four attacks.

Rumble—

"What?!"

Suddenly, Ulrich shouted as towering pillars of bone erupted in front of him and around his sides, cutting off Darwin and instantly separating them.

"Darwin!"

Zeist and Meister tried to call out to Darwin, but the same pillars of bone blocked them from assisting him, leaving Darwin alone to fight the Captain head-on.

They exchanged a few blows.

"Tsk!"

The Captain was caught off guard, but a look of realization appeared on his face as he realized he had expected this much from Darwin. Their battle continued to intensify.

"As expected from the renowned True Calamity!"

Rumble—!

Still, the same could be said for Darwin fighting the Captain, as after only a few seconds of skirmishing, the only thing he managed to do was remove the Captain’s robe, revealing the grotesque face inside.

Darwin tried to attack for more as he released spells, but the tremors in the ground intensified before huge, towering bones shot up into the skies across the entirety of the Sorcery Academy.

Only then did he see it. After being focused on the fight, he finally caught sight of it at the corner of his eye.

The academy grounds, the buildings, and the complex were all thrown into ruin, crumbling down as the huge, towering bones devoured them and formed walls. Students scattered around and separated, breaking the encirclement apart.

"You’re all fucking dead! We will hunt every single one in this academy tonight!"

The Captain said one last time with a deranged laugh as a huge pillar of bone rose between him and Darwin.

’Shit!’

Darwin tried to chase after him, but it was a futile attempt.

Darwin could only watch his target escape from his grasp.

He punched the wall in regret at the barrier that separated them before shouting one last time.

"The students! Protect the students at all costs, instructors!"

Darwin didn’t know if those instructors heard him.

But he hoped they did.

After all, everyone has been scattered around from the towering bones that forcefully separated people or a person.

The worst scenario now was that the students would have to fight individuals whose strength far surpassed theirs in terms of experience, and who would not hesitate to kill them.

"Damn these Shepherds! Just how...!"

Darwin angrily stomped his feet on the ground, frustrated that he hadn’t been able to eliminate the Captain.

But he slowly calmed himself down.

"Okay..."

After taking a deep breath, Darwin started running towards the direction of the students, hoping to meet them along the way.
