Demon King: Hero, don't run away!
Chapter 1549: Smoke Bomb
The carriage shattered, and the demon clan members inside, still groggy from their rest, barely had time to react before a massive claw grasped their heads and smashed them into the ground.
Flapping his wings, Hei Kongkong eyed the towering figure at the chaos center; the magic power released during his attack was extraordinary and definitely not ordinary.
A head-on clash must be avoided at all costs!
Hei Kongkong assumed a bow-drawing posture, the black magic in his hands forming a bow, while purple magic coalesced into arrows.
"[Binding Arrow]!"
The arrow formed by purple magic streaked through the sky, splitting into numerous arrowheads mid-air, densely shooting towards Wan Huawen.
Wan Huawen roared, causing a red glow to spread across his body, and the incoming arrows broke in response.
The broken arrows formed clusters of purple stains around Wan Huawen.
Undeterred, Hei Kongkong drew his longbow again, sending a barrage of arrows infused with various Skills bearing down on Wan Huawen.
The demon clan scouts traveling with him reacted as well, drawing their weapons to fight Wan Huawen. Those capable of transforming into magic beasts did so, baring their sharp teeth as they lunged at Wan Huawen.
Taking a deep breath, Wan Huawen smashed the teeth of a magic beast with one punch, sending it scurrying to find its teeth scattered across the ground.
Knowing Wan Huawen was not easy to deal with, Yaobang avoided confronting him directly, maneuvering with his four claws towards the convoy ahead.
Since he came with family in tow, attacking them and taking them hostage would force his hand!
But Wan Huawen’s family of the Blood Lion Clan was not so easily dealt with.
A young man with lion ears dressed in a white Daoist robe, casually worn with one side open, sat atop the carriage, seemingly cold as he tucked his left hand into his chest, lifting a wine gourd with his right, gulping down wine.
The lion-eared youth tracked Yaobang’s movements, his eyes following his every step.
Tossing the half-drunk wine gourd into the air, in the next moment, the lion-eared youth disappeared from the carriage roof and reappeared before Yaobang.
A surge of blood power erupted from Wan Ze, pouring into the ground, instantly slowing Yaobang’s rapid advance.
"[Enhanced Fist]!"
Fist in front, palm behind, Wan Ze launched his attack.
Yaobang swayed to dodge with his Skills, but the lion-eared youth seemed to read his every move, his figure shifting ghost-like, as a punch landed on Yaobang’s right shoulder.
The strength in Wan Ze’s Technique wasn’t high, but landing a hit could increase his own power.
After the fist came the palm!
"[Shattering Palm]!"
Wan Ze thrust forward harshly, sending Yaobang flying several meters away.
Yaobang could feel his entire body wailing as though something was tearing at the point of impact where Wan Ze struck, breaking his defense.
One punch to enhance oneself, one palm to weaken the defense, as one increased and the other decreased, Wan Ze’s output capabilities leapt up a Level.
Wan Ze, Wan Huawen’s second son, possesses extraordinary combat intuition, hailed as a seed candidate for the Dragon God Conference of the Wansheng Republic.
But his outstanding talent, to some degree, eroded his heart, making him arrogant, believing no peer could rival him, leading him to lose his ambition, indulging in pleasures and drinking the days away.
Wan Huawen initially thought Wan Ze would only change after experiencing the Dragon God Conference, but Yang Yu’s arrival changed him in advance.
Catching the falling wine gourd with a slight gesture, Wan Ze poured wine down his throat, observing Yaobang’s every move.
Yaobang knew this youth was no simpleton and likewise avoided direct confrontation. His figure split into three, with two phantoms charging at Wan Ze, while the original headed towards the convoy, seeking the weak and vulnerable.
Stashing the wine gourd, Wan Ze shook his head, dodging the two phantom black panthers and extended his hand, pulling Yaobang back several meters in an instant.
Stepping lightly, Wan Ze closed the distance with Yaobang, delivering fists like the wind.
Yaobang hastily summoned a Magic Shield.
Wan Ze’s fist splintered light, cracking Yaobang’s Magic Shield. With a second punch, Wan Ze completely shattered the shield Yaobang had woven.
Wan Ze’s fist directly landed on Yaobang, sending him crashing away instantly.
Yaobang rolled on the ground like a wheel, black current sparking from him, rooting like tendrils into the ground, halting his roll.
With no time to breathe, Wan Ze relentlessly closed in on him again in a blink of an eye.
Yaobang, with no choice, mustered all his strength to respond.
Hei Kongkong, amidst his offensive and distraction, kept Yaobang’s situation in view.
They belonged to the reconnaissance troops, their practical combat abilities a far cry from those of the combat troops; faced with such a formidable opponent, they were completely overpowered.
This scouting mission had almost certainly gone bust!
But it wasn’t a complete loss.
This person they had coincidentally encountered was likely that Legendary Blood Lion, and from his probing remarks, they realized his identity was extremely special.
If they took this as a starting point...
The reconnaissance troops attacked Wan Huawen in succession; Wan Huawen deftly countered, and dealing with opponents of this Level was as simple as hacking melons and vegetables for him.
Hei Kongkong, without hesitation, contacted the struggling Yaobang:
"Tactical retreat! I’ll assist you; find a way to run!"
Yaobang knew he stood no chance against Wan Ze; he had already heard the sounds of the convoy coming to a halt, Wan Huawen’s family getting off the carriage.
If it was the infirm and elderly, it wouldn’t be as worrying, but if another person of Wan Ze’s caliber descended, the consequences would be dire; they might have to account for themselves here!
...Generally speaking, would anyone send the infirm and elderly out to scout?
Of course not; Yaobang had no illusions, abandoning the idea of taking hostages, agreeing to a temporary retreat.
With the surrounding demon clan dealt with, Wan Huawen focused his gaze on Hei Kongkong in the sky, picking up stones from the ground and hurling them at Hei Kongkong like a slingshot shooting birds. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Unforgivable! Let me show you the power of demon clan creations!"
Hei Kongkong spread his wings, skillfully dodging, summoning the Storage Magic Array to retrieve several gray spheres, hurling them towards the convoy while shouting.
Wan Huawen hurriedly threw more stones, breaking the gray spheres before they could impact the carriage.
However, the gray spheres were a trap! Hei Kongkong had deliberately led Wan Huawen to break them!
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The earsplitting explosion echoed at the front of the convoy, a massive cloud of pungent smoke spreading above the convoy, enveloping everyone in an instant!
Wan Ze felt his eyes sting and his nose tickle, making him want to sneeze.
This was smoke with enhanced scent targeted at the beastmen, specifically used for escape!
Taking advantage of the suffocating smoke, all able demon clan scouts quickly retreated, distancing themselves from the Blood Lion Clan’s convoy.
Releasing a massive amount of magic power, Wan Huawen blasted away the smoke, but was met only with chaos and the sight of Hei Kongkong flying away with flapping wings.
