Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Sanchez in a pickle

Rosa set off, she used Fluffy to track the children and the smell of ammonia. Fluffy led her to an abandoned building on the outskirts of the city.

This building was under construction but after a few mysterious deaths, it was eventually abandoned.

Now she figured the Tokoloshe was probably to blame for those deaths. She looked up.

The sun was about to set, she took a deep breath and went inside but as soon as she got inside things turned dark.

She could see sun rays entering through the gaps and windows but there seemed to be something devouring the light.

This chilled her or perhaps it was because the place was actually cold. She has read this as well.

It wasn’t a trait exclusive to Tokoloshe, all spirits gave off a cold feeling which chilled their surroundings.

She pulled out her gun loaded with iron bullets and held a torch with the other hand but it light was dim.

She knew fie certainty now that something was here. She continued slowly and vigilantly with Fluffy by her side.

They climbed the stairs, on the second floor she saw clothes, children clothes. This made her freeze.

A feeling of fear gripped her heart and Fluffy tapped her with her tail. Sanchez took a deep breath and continued.

When she was climbing the stairs to the third floor she stepped on something, it snapped like twigs.

She looked down and realised what she was stepped on was a bone, a child’s bone. She pointed her torch to the ground.

There she was probably dozens of bones from children, just by estimate she figured they belonged to at least five children.

Instead of being terrified she felt an overwhelming wave of hatred, " Bastard." She gritted her teeth.

So many children had died at the hands of this thing that it made serial killers look like candy sellers.

She took another deep breath and continued climbing the stairs until she reached the third and final floor.

As soon as they reached the third floor Fluffy started growling, Sanchez pointed her torch where Fluffy was looking.

She saw a tiny greyish creature with a nail on its head. The thing looked at him with pitch black eyes.

It tilted its head like it was confused the screeched like an angry ghost. Sanchez panicked and fired.

It screeched in pain and disappeared, she pointed her torch but saw nothing. " Fluffy, can you smell it?"

Fluffy continued growling, it was not like she can answer. Sanchez followed her eyes and pointed her gun there she fired.

She heard another screech then silence, she looked down at Fluffy who was waging her tail.

’It it dead?’ Sanchez wondered, she proceeded to look for the kids but she didn’t let down her guard.

She had only taken a few steps when claws ripped her clothes and drew large gashes on her body.

" Ahhh." Sanchez screamed and fell on the ground. She saw the tiny creature lunging at her.

She covered her face with her arms and waited for an attack but the temperature suddenly spiked.

BOOOOOM, the surroundings lit up with flames. A fireball hit the tiny Tokoloshe sending it crashing on the other side of the wall.

Then it stood back up like nothing had happened. ’ He was right, only iron will work against this thing.’

Fluffy’s flames which were extremely hot did not even damage the Tokoloshe in the slightest.

Sanchez pulled out a salt balloon and threw it, the Tokoloshe barely reacted and it was hit on the face.

She saw steam rising from its face, it screamed and started running then it disappeared again.

’ It has turned invisible, this trait is truly amazing, not even Fluffy can sense it when it’s like that.’

The book did say they had an incredibly powerful type of stealth ability. To be more specific it wasn’t an ability.

As spirits, they can shift between the real world or the spirit world at will making it incredible hard to track them.

She whistled and Fluffy stood next to her defensively. Her flaming fur lit up the surrounding 3 metres.

’ Okay, this thing isn’t particularly strong but I can’t see it until it gets close to me which is troublesome.

It’s immune to all forms of attacks except salt and iron, I’ve already tested that myself too.

Yeah, I think I can beat it.’ she told herself and felt her confidence growing. She walked slowly with Fluffy by her side.

She was looking for the children but she had a terrible feeling like something was wrong. Bang.

She was suddenly hit on the stomach, she saw it standing in front of her, it disappeared immediately after.

Not giving either her or Fluffy a chance to attack. Sanchez bent over holding her stomach.

Fortunately she was wearing an iron plate beneath her clothes but only protected her stomach.

Amongst the things she bought, there was also iron arm and leg guards as well as a helmet.

She believed that would be enough, obviously she was very wrong. While this thing was weak.

That was in comparison to other supernatural creatures she had come across.

In actuality, it had the physical strength of an athletic man in his prime and she couldn’t match it in pure strength.

Fortunately she didn’t need to fight it head on, she just needed a good chance to shoot it with iron bullets. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The creature appeared and tried to attack her again but it made the mistake of appearing a bit too far.

It stood nearly three metres away from her, it screeched and ran at her. Bang bang bang, she fired three times in succession.

The bullets sent it crashing on the floor and it rolled nearly two metres. She saw something like black blood falling of its wounds.

It laid there unmoving. She took two salt balloons and three then at it. The salt surrounded its entire body.

" Graaaaaaar." The creature screeched, she shot it two more times and it stopped moving.

After seeing it was no longer struggling she went inside and checked multiple rooms but didn’t see the kids.

She heard something moving and falling and she ran there. She found the kids but they weren’t alone.

There were three other kids on top of the ones she was looking for. The kids were startled and ran as soon as they saw her.

" Shhh shhh, it’s okay, I’m the police and I’m here to take you home. Are there others with you?"

She asked but none of them answered, they seemed shaken, especially the other three who had blank eyes.

The two she was looking for opened their mouths as if they wanted to say something but then closed them again.

Sanchez noticed this but said nothing, she led the kids out. As soon as they got out she saw a shadow flickering.

’ four, there are four shadows.’ Fluffy was also growling and the kids looked terrified at least two of them did.

The other three still had blank faces as if they couldn’t register the world around them, Sanchez didn’t blame them, they’ve been through a lot.

She told Fluffy to guard them from the back while she took the front. Then Fluffy started growling again.

But she was looking at the three other kids, Sanchez also noticed they smelled like ammonia.

She figured it was because they’ve been in contact with the Tokoloshe for much longer, she turned to leave then paused.

She suddenly remembered something, a single inconspicuous line in the book that the author glossed over.

Tokoloshe, they can also transform into children, specifically those they had consumed.

Sanchez approached this under the impression that she was after a single Tokoloshe.

But what if..she turned and pointed her gun at one of them. The child’s neck snapped to the side.

It tilted its head but its movements were sluggish like an infant still trying to learn how to walk.

She was certain now, these three were not children, they were Tokoloshe. Seeing their cover had been blown.

They screeched and lunged at her, she fired three times hitting all three on the head. They fell over and rolled away.

" Come on let’s go." She dragged the two kids and ran away, she had Fluffy protect them from the back.

They ran past the room where she had killed the first one but she noticed its body was gone.

She had no time to contemplate what was happening. Her priority was getting these two out of here.

They reached the second floor and continued running, then an explosion stopped her.

A wall of fire appeared in front of them and Fluffy kept growling while looking in front of them.

Sanchez saw nothing until out of nowhere, multiple Tokoloshe appeared, Sanchez knew she couldn’t deal with them.

Fluffy was certainly strong enough to hit all of them without an issue but unfortunately her attacks were meaningless.

They could push them away but they can’t hurt these creatures. Sanchez did the only thing she could.

Sue poured salt all around them forming a circle. The Tokoloshe stopped outside of the circle.

They couldn’t cross the salt,’ Damnit, what now?’ Sanchez was getting really scared, she couldn’t see a way out, not while carrying these kids.

She suddenly noticed Fluffy was still growling but upon closer look, it wasn’t at the Tokoloshe.

Suddenly Sanchez heard clapping, " My my, what an impressive little pup, as expected of the pet of the child of blood."
