Demon Slayer: Rise of The First Werewolf
Chapter 158: First Client
The library was completed in less than an hour. Meggie finally took off her hood and took a deep breath.
" That was exhausting." She wiped the sweat off her face. Annie froze when she saw her.
" Mrs Lunar?" She asked in a soft and confused voice. Meggie turned towards her and smiled.
She gently touched Annie’s cheek, " Oh child, I’m not exactly who you think I am, one day you’ll understand, both of you."
Adrian didn’t say anything, Annie remembered her parents talking about an aunt of Adrian.
She thought for a moment that maybe this was her. While she was identical to Adrian’s mother.
The hair and eye colour were different but everything else down to their voice was exactly the same.
Meggie took out a book with a pitch black cover and gave it to Adrian. " This book contains all the knowledge in this library.
Drip your blood on it to bind it." Adrian took it then gave it to Annie. She was far more interested in reading than he was.
Annie didn’t take it, she watched Meggie to see how she will react but Meggie didn’t say anything.
Whether Adrian or Annie had it didn’t matter, she just wanted them to have knowledge, especially considering what they had started.
Without proper knowledge, their mercenary guild isn’t going to go far. Then she took out something else.
" I know you’ve been stressing about the rings, I can’t stay to forge them for you nor can I trust others to.
So take this, this will automatically inscribe the right runes on any object you place inside.
You just need to insert an elk root coin for every inscription." She gave him an iron pyramid the side of a human head.
Adrian nodded, he knew she was leaving again but he didn’t argue or try to stop her, he just turned around and walked off.
Annie watched him go, " Do you have to go?" She asked Meggie. She could see how hurting Adrian was.
Meggie didn’t even come to his birthday, Annie didn’t understand how close their relationship was.
But based on Adrian’s reaction, it was obvious he loved her and depended on her the way she did her parents.
She could only imagine how she would feel if they didn’t come for her birthday or decided to disappear somewhere she couldn’t even visit.
Meggie looked down and put her hood back on. " He’ll understand, maybe not today but someday, he’ll understand why I had to do all of this."
" Well then, have a safe trip." Annie turned around and walked off. Meggie could see she was mad.
She sighed, she didn’t want to leave either but she didn’t have a choice. Her presence was more of a threat to Adrian than even vampires.
Most thought she didn’t understand but she did, unfortunately there was nothing else she can do.
The spell she had used to split her memories into multiple pieces to mask herself had been lost in one of those memories.
In order to get that spell back she needs to retrieve her memories, at the same time, doing so will alert them.
It was a lose lose situation. She cast a spell and disappeared without even saying goodbye.
She had stayed long enough, any longer and they might sense her location which would be bad.
-----------------------------------
" She’s gone?" Adrian asked Annie, she didn’t respond.
" I think we should have Naija look after the library, that might get her away from me for a while."
Naija’s presence was a real drag to both of them. She was over the top even more than Suzie.
Annie nodded, " I’ll also have others assist her, the library is pretty large." He shook his head.
" No, leave they task only to her, she’ll be more occupied that way." Annie had a sudden realisation.
" You’re right. So what about this book?" She took out the book he had given her. " I think you should take it back, it is a gift after all."
He shook his head, " It would be more useful to you, I know how much you like reading."
She nodded, " In that case then thank you." She dropped a drop of her blood on the book and immediately felt a connection to it.
She asked a question to the book as a test. The book had blank pages but as soon as she asked her question.
Writings appeared, the book had given her the answer she was looking for. This made her smile.
" Still, I think I will prefer going to the library to read the books there, after all, you can only ask about things you know about."
He shrugged." Do what you want." A few days passed. Finally the first customer of the guild showed up.
It was a woman wearing beautiful and obviously expensive clothing accompanied by two men and one maid.
The werewolves wondered what this princess was doing in the black market, she looked like a spoiled young miss.
" Hello, would you like to register as a mercenary or are you here to post up a mission?"
One of the new recruits asked, she had been given the task to act as a receptionist for the guild.
There were others working with her. " I’m here to post up a mission. Could you explain to me how that works?"
" Of course, you just have to state the task or tasks you wish completed. The guild will assess the difficulty level and level of mercenary needed to complete it.
Then the price will be based on the difficulty and danger of the mission."
The noble looking lady nodded, Secra was actually a noble. A daughter of a noble from a small kingdom of Scapra.
The Scapra were shifters, a type of Fayera similar to the Krabol who had traits of animals and can even transform into them.
The most defining traits of shifters is that they lose their sanity or become more savage upon taking their true forms.
They were also the most common type of Fayera. Actually, logically werewolves should also count as shifters.
However they were too unknown to be classified as anything yet.
Secra nodded, " I understand, I would like somebody to retrieve this for me." She gave the receptionist a photo.
" Very well, if you could provide more details about the mission, that would be very helpful."
