Demon Tamer's Ascension
Chapter 50: An Eventful Day [R-18+ - ]
The arena remained eerily quiet even after Ravenna left.
Most upperclassmen were still staring at Alex like they were trying to understand what exactly they had witnessed.
A first-year surviving even a minute against Ravenna was already absurd.
Actually forcing her to acknowledge him?
That was worse.
Alex slowly stood from the cracked battlefield while stretching one sore arm.
"...My entire body hurts."
That tends to happen when someone folds you like paper, Adoff muttered inside his head.
"Supportive as always."
One of the third-years from earlier approached carefully, still holding his sword over his shoulder.
"You’re actually insane," he said honestly.
Alex glanced toward him.
"So I’ve heard."
The third-year laughed slightly before extending a hand.
"Darius."
Alex looked at the hand for a moment before shaking it.
"Alex."
Darius grinned.
"Yeah, everyone knows that now."
Several other upperclassmen slowly approached afterward.
Not hostile this time.
Curious.
One girl with short red hair leaned against the arena railing while eyeing him openly.
"You really fought a Demon?"
Alex shrugged.
"It happened."
"That’s not an answer."
"That’s all you’re getting."
She smirked slightly.
"...Interesting."
Adoff immediately growled quietly beside Alex.
The red-haired girl raised an eyebrow.
"Your wolf doesn’t like me."
I don’t like anyone, Adoff replied telepathically to Alex.
"He’s territorial."
"Clearly."
Before the conversation could continue, another academy bell echoed throughout the building.
Students immediately groaned.
Darius sighed.
"Next period already..."
The red-haired girl pushed herself off the railing.
"Try not to die before rankings, first-year."
"I’ll consider it."
She smirked again before walking off with the others.
Eventually the arena emptied until only Alex and Adoff remained.
The giant battlefield looked even worse now.
Cracks covered nearly every section of reinforced stone.
Adoff stared around the arena before whistling softly.
...Yeah. She definitely enjoyed beating you up.
Alex rolled his shoulder carefully.
"She held back."
THAT WAS HER HOLDING BACK?!
Alex didn’t answer.
Because honestly?
That realization bothered him too.
For the first time since arriving at the academy, Alex felt genuinely weak.
Not compared to students.
Compared to true hunters.
Compared to people like Ravenna.
The gap felt massive.
And strangely enough—
That excited him.
A blue screen flickered quietly before his eyes.
[Quest Updated]
[Become Strong Enough To Kill A Demon Alone]
Progress: 2%
Rewards: ???
Failure: Death
Alex stared at the screen briefly before sighing.
"...You really love impossible tasks."
What now? Adoff asked.
"Classes."
I hate this academy.
The rest of the day passed painfully slowly.
Combat Theory turned into a two-hour lecture about Demon anatomy. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Mana Control involved an elderly instructor screaming at students for poor circulation efficiency.
Tactical Combat became worse somehow.
Alex got thrown out halfway through after arguing with the instructor.
"You cannot simply rush every opponent directly!"
"If it works—"
"IT SHOULD NOT WORK!"
By the time evening arrived, Alex was mentally exhausted.
The academy grounds had become quieter now, illuminated by floating mana lanterns that glowed softly across the pathways.
Students relaxed around courtyards alongside their beasts while others trained late into the evening.
Alex finally returned to the dormitory building with Adoff walking beside him lazily.
Leon was already inside when they entered.
The moment he looked up from the couch—
He paused.
"...Why do you look worse than yesterday?"
"Training."
Leon narrowed his eyes slightly.
"With Ravenna?"
Alex dropped onto the couch.
"She’s violent."
"That means she likes you."
"That somehow sounds threatening."
"It is."
Adoff collapsed near the couch dramatically.
I’m emotionally exhausted.
"You watched."
Exactly.
Leon quietly set his book down before speaking again.
"...Word already spread through the combat division."
Alex looked unimpressed.
"About?"
"You lasted longer against Ravenna than most second-years."
Silence.
Then Alex slowly frowned.
"...That feels concerning."
"It should."
A knock suddenly echoed from the dormitory door.
All three paused.
Leon looked confused.
"...We’re not expecting anyone."
Alex lazily stood before walking toward the entrance.
The moment he opened the door—
A girl stood there.
Tall.
Curvy.
Long dark hair falling over one shoulder.
Her academy uniform fit tightly enough to immediately explain why half the hallway behind her was staring.
Golden eyes met Alex’s calmly.
Then she smiled faintly.
"So," she said softly, "you’re the famous first-year."
Behind Alex, Adoff immediately groaned internally.
Oh no.
Leon slowly looked away like he wanted no involvement whatsoever.
Alex leaned slightly against the doorway.
"...Depends who’s asking."
"Selene."
Her gaze slowly moved across him openly.
"Third-year."
Adoff’s tail twitched suspiciously.
She’s trouble.
"Most likely."
Selene smiled slightly wider hearing Alex answer a thought she couldn’t hear.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"I heard you fought Ravenna today," she said.
"Unfortunately."
"And survived."
"Barely."
Her eyes lingered on the bruises visible near his collarbone.
"...You should probably treat those."
Alex shrugged.
"They’ll heal."
Selene stepped slightly closer.
"Not all wounds heal naturally."
Leon immediately stood up.
"I suddenly remembered I have somewhere else to be."
Adoff instantly followed him.
Smart man.
Within seconds, both of them disappeared into the other room.
Cowards.
The hallway outside had mostly emptied now.
Selene tilted her head slightly while studying Alex.
"You’re calmer than I expected."
"You’re staring more than I expected."
She laughed quietly at that.
Then—
Very casually—
She stepped inside the dormitory.
The door clicked shut behind her.
The atmosphere immediately changed.
Quieter.
Closer.
Selene slowly looked around the room before turning back toward Alex.
"You know," she said softly, "half the academy’s talking about you right now."
"That sounds annoying."
"It usually is."
She stepped closer again.
Close enough now for Alex to notice the faint scent of perfume mixed with mana residue from training.
Her fingers lightly brushed against the bruising near his neck.
"You really did get beaten up."
Alex looked down at her calmly.
"...You here to heal me?"
Selene smiled slowly.
"Maybe."
Alex looked at her for a moment without moving.
Selene’s fingers still rested lightly against the bruised skin near his neck, her golden eyes studying him with open curiosity.
Not nervous.
Not shy.
Confident.
Dangerously so.
The dormitory felt quieter now, the distant sounds of students outside barely audible through the walls.
"You usually walk into random dorms at night?" Alex asked calmly.
"Only interesting ones."
"That sounds like bad decision-making."
Selene smiled faintly.
"And yet you still let me inside."
Fair point.
Alex noticed immediately that she carried herself differently from most students.
Relaxed.
Experienced.
Not just in combat.
There was a confidence in the way she moved, the way she looked at him without hesitation, like she already understood the effect she had on people.
Unfortunately for her—
Alex wasn’t reacting much.
That only seemed to make her more interested.
"You really don’t get flustered easily, huh?"
"I’m tired."
"That’s not the same thing."
Selene slowly withdrew her hand from his neck before glancing around the dormitory lounge again.
"So this is where the academy’s newest problem lives."
"According to Ravenna, I’m weak."
"Ravenna says that to almost everyone."
Alex leaned casually against the wall.
"She nearly killed me."
Selene laughed quietly.
"Then she definitely likes you."
"That’s still concerning."
Her eyes drifted across him again, lingering briefly on the bruises left from training.
"You know," she said softly, "most first-years would still be unconscious after what happened today."
"Disappointing."
"That’s not normal."
Alex shrugged slightly.
Neither was he.
For a moment, silence settled between them again.
Not awkward.
Heavy.
Selene stepped closer once more until barely any distance remained between them.
"You’re dangerous," she said quietly.
"So I’ve heard."
"And annoyingly calm."
"You keep repeating that like it’s rare."
"It is."
Her hand slid lightly down his chest before gripping the front of his uniform slightly.
Alex finally reacted a little this time.
Not outwardly.
But enough.
Selene noticed immediately.
A faint smirk appeared on her lips.
"There it is."
"What?"
"A reaction."
Alex exhaled quietly through his nose.
"...Congratulations."
"You make this difficult on purpose?"
"Usually unintentionally."
Selene laughed again before slowly pulling him closer by the collar.
"You know what everyone expected after hearing the rumors about you?"
"What?"
"That you’d be arrogant."
Her voice lowered slightly.
"Or unstable."
Alex looked down at her calmly.
"And?"
"You’re neither."
Her fingers brushed lightly against his neck again.
"That’s more dangerous."
The tension between them thickened slowly.
Not rushed.
Not awkward.
Just two people fully aware of where this was heading.
Alex’s hand finally settled against her waist.
Selene’s breathing hitched slightly at the contact, though the smirk never fully left her face.
"Oh," she murmured softly. "So you do know how to touch someone."
"Barely."
"That explains a lot."
Alex pulled her slightly closer this time.
Selene looked up at him for another second before kissing him first.
Slow at first.
Testing.
Then deeper when Alex responded immediately.
Her grip tightened against his shirt while his hand slid along her waist, pulling her flush against him.
The tension from the entire day—combat, pressure, exhaustion, adrenaline—finally crashed together all at once.
Selene pressed him lightly against the wall without breaking the kiss, clearly enjoying the fact that he still remained frustratingly composed.
"You’re still calm," she whispered against his lips.
"You talk a lot."
"And you don’t talk enough."
Alex kissed her again before she could continue.
That shut her up for approximately three seconds.
Then she smiled against his lips.
"Better."
Her hands slid beneath the edge of his uniform jacket slowly while Alex’s grip tightened slightly against her hips.
The atmosphere grew hotter by the second.
Heavy breathing.
Slow movements.
Teasing touches turning less restrained.
Selene eventually pulled back just enough to look at him again, her hair slightly messy now.
"...You know," she said softly, "if someone walks in—"
"They’ll regret it."
That answer actually made her laugh.
Then she kissed him again harder this time while pulling him toward the hallway leading to the bedrooms.
Somewhere deeper in the dormitory—
Adoff’s horrified telepathic voice suddenly echoed inside Alex’s head.
I CAN STILL SENSE EVERYTHING, YOU KNOW.
Alex ignored him completely.
THIS IS TRAUMATIZING.
For some reason, Alex didn’t even think about his ex-fiancée at this point in time... because she didn’t matter right now.
