Chapter 94: First round

No one gave a speech to the chaotic crowd, maybe because they were already aware of their destiny or none didn’t know what to say.

Matt stood above the city with flames burning the sky around him; at first two people were against building a defense, but they anyway stuck with the rest of the squad.

Once a simple city made out of stone and woods, now only a dome of ice and fire could be seen around. Five layers of iron, ice, and fusion flames swallowing every building beneath them, and no way to penetrate them.

"There is only one more person outside of the dome..." Matt whispered to himself. Everyone had opposed him by his decision, yet they all knew he was the only one that could do it.

The reason they have given him the title "Sun Stealer" is because, unlike other flame users, he produced flames the way that the sun made its energy. The downside was most of the times he couldn’t use his full powers or else a whole continent could collapse.

With a smirk and his confidence back, he yelled at the sky, "You want me to nuke this place? Let me show you the sun." The gaze of others could be sensed from afar; Matt doubted if some of them were even from earth.

"Commander, only one minute is left; we wish you good luck..."

"Vice General, let’s switch when you are tired..."

The voice of his companions gave him more power to move forward. "Thanks, guys. From now on I’m just Matt."

A big worry still persisted in the back of his mind; their whole plan was based on the previous festivals; each time the aliens came through portals from the borders of the area of the festival, and with each round the level of enemies grew.

Through history, only five times had festivals happened, and in none of them had earth won. Humans were usually fragile creatures compared to the aliens that fought over the smallest resources to survive.

"Stars of Life and Death..."

Two small star-shaped objects appeared above his shoulders to Matt. With a speed beyond the limits of what human eyes could follow, they started to circle around his body.

The first round begins.

As he received the massage from the system, his mind let go of the two objects protecting him like armor. The two started to emerge in front of him, and in a blink of an eye, the world was white.

The only thing around the area to be immune to the shockwave was his own body; the forests and fields started to burn to ashes, and solid rocks melted away on the ground, with new flames rising from the ground to the sky, each at least fifty meters in height.

Clearing the ground was his first phase of his plan; his biggest strength lay in air combat, and with less area to cover, his mind eased about being able to hold the line until the first round ended.

He checked the time until the next round:

Two days remaining until the second round.

"Hope to get some re..."

A roar filled the whole area, followed by red lightning on the other side of the arena. The small city was north of the arena, and Matt watched as a creature as big as the sky scratched and flew to the sky; the shape was unrecognizable, yet the area of its magic shook the vice generals’ bones.

"Destruction magic... In the first round..."

To his surprise the creature didn’t fly toward him. "It’s heading west... We are not its target!"

Following the creature, the whole sky turned green. Smaller flying aliens rushed toward them.

"Three minutes before they reach here." His hands started moving in preparation for another attack before another roar broke his concentration.

The voice of his companion came through their system, "Vice General, the Blood Angel attacked first...

"What?" All of them had thought that Blood Angel was going to hide somewhere safe until the last moments.

Smaller creatures escaped from the battlefield of the west as red lightning and blood lances pierced the sky without noticing them.

"Stars of Life and Death."

Once more two stars came to being; however, this time they started to transform. One turned into a bike made out of flames, and the other broke in half, and each one grew into two long swords.

Picking up the radiating swords, Matt got on the bike and started to circle around their dome.

"Light of Hydra..."

For the first time since his reaching level 7, he used his tool. Its description was simple: turned you into a flame that swallows moths.

His body started to shine; many colors were mixed in one another that he himself didn’t know what to say, "Colors brighter than the sun..."

His senses could gaze at the thousands of eyes with killing intent on him. He yelled to the sky, "For humanity..."

Meanwhile under the dome in a small room, Shiva watched the battlefield with sweat covering her whole body.

"There is no mistaking it; he’s only level 4, but how is he holding up with that thing?"

Her spirit flew closer to the Blood Angel; curiosity didn’t let her escape to return to her senior.

Up in the sky flew with red wings. His flying skills were beyond anything that Shiva had ever seen, and his robe and dark hair danced with the symphony of his body.

She didn’t know why she moved closer to him, yet as she got closer, two blue eyes were locked on her.

"How the hell am I spotted?" Shiva called back her spirit as fast she could.

"When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back." The sound seemed so unfamiliar to the person she had seen so many times on the news.

The words were not merely words coming out of his mouth; Shiva heard them in her head.

Silence.

A scream surged from her longs.
