Chapter 682 - 681: Living Saint

Under the concealing force field, a torpedo launch port at the middle section of the Otherworld Inn quietly opened, and then a faint flash shot out from it, quickly disappearing into the vast universe.

Yu Sheng, clutching a fox tail, soared into the cosmic space, draped in distant and cold starlight, flying toward the towering Star Gate structure.

He felt like a hero charging at a windmill at that moment—riding a Saturn V beneath him, wielding a trident in his left hand, and holding Xu Chu in his right.

And his "windmill" stood tall in the shadows of the stars, bathed in the heat and faint light of a failed Constant Star.

Yu Sheng even sensed a hint of romanticism in this scene—but clearly not everyone thought the same.

"To be fair, this scene is damn bizarre," Erin's unsophisticated voice echoed in his mind, the little puppet muttering, "If one day Boundary Land comes to interview us on how we saved the world, I wouldn't even know how to explain—our first Door-opening battle was you riding a fox tail crashing straight into the enemy's Star Gate..."

Yu Sheng couldn't hold it in: "Can you use nicer words..."

Just then, another voice echoed nearby: "Savior, Savior, can you hear me~"

Yu Sheng was startled, looking strangely at the fluffy big tail beneath him: "Hu Li? Does your tail come with communication features?"

"I added a temporary feature," Hu Li's voice sounded delighted, "As long as you're within the Protective Spirit Qi range of the tail, you can transmit directly~"

After saying this, she paused and emphasized with a hint of pride: "Demon fox, skilled in transformation!"

"I always feel there's something subtle about your concept of 'transformation,' and there's no need to add features to the tail. I'm connected with the Otherworld Inn, so you can talk on the ship and I'll hear it... but never mind, it's not a big deal," Yu Sheng shook his head, then looked up into the distance, "Be careful, don't get too close to that Space Station... dive in from the defensive platform's blind spot."

"Uh-huh~"

The Protective Spirit Qi emitted a faint flowing light in the universe, the ghostly blue flame deliberately constrained, the fox tail beneath Yu Sheng arcing precisely past the edge of the Brown Dwarf Star. This "sub-star's" chaotic magnetic field environment and the unstable "hot spots" on its surface became an excellent cover, further reducing his chances of being detected by the Star Gate's defense forces.

The massive Star Gate came into view, the ominous red glow of the Star Gate structure looming against the dark red spotted backdrop of the heavily oppressive brown dwarf star was like a blood-dripping jewel ring, falling into the universe from the belly of a "stillborn star"—the distant starlight twisted and shredded as it passed through the central area of the Star Gate, casting numerous overlapping illusions into view.

At that moment, several ships were passing through the Star Gate, emerging from the red light curtain with rippling edges, then instantly disappearing into the starry depths. The Otherworld Inn's database identified some of their models—mostly various freighters, or armed escorts for those freighters, with a few ornately decorated shuttles suggesting they were on some dark mission (that's Erin speaking).

"This Hidden Sect's 'Hidden Monastery' doesn't seem as isolated as outsiders imagine," Yu Sheng remarked with emotion, "their border traffic is quite busy indeed."

"After all, such a large organization needs to interact with the outside now and then," Hu Li's voice murmured in Yu Sheng's ear, "plus, they periodically go to other people's homes to do damage."

Yu Sheng grasped the fox tail with one hand, pinching his chin with the other, muttering while pondering: "...looks like we need to be cautious not to disrupt the normal operation of the Star Gate, otherwise we'll be easily detected..."

"Savior, hold on tight, we need to speed past those firepower platforms."

"Okay."

A faint stream of light flickered across the dark expanse of space, "falling" toward the blackened steel earth from above the Star Gate's main ring.

The nearby Star Gate defense forces seemed unaware as a faint and unusual "starlight" emerged from the Brown Dwarf Star's hot spots—the weak energy signature and the radar profile less noticeable than the smallest Shuttle drew no attention.

It turns out that in the eyes of a space behemoth like the "Star Gate" and its surrounding space defense fortifications, an adult human riding a fox tail is as easily overlooked as a speck of dust.

But this wasn't a failing of the Star Gate designers or the defense fortification managers; after all, it's a Star Gate, a genuine colossus, and in a war game, it wouldn't even be considered a "structure" but directly classified under "special terrain" monstrosities. To effectively damage such an entity, you'd at least need something on the level of a battle fortress torpedo—an antimatter warhead standing seven stories tall, and even then, if it missed slightly, it wouldn't necessarily disrupt the Star Gate's operation.

Who would consider, in the initial design, that a speck of dust-sized "invader" could pose any harm to such a scale of a space mega-structure?

So at least during the entire first half of his approach to the Star Gate, Yu Sheng found it fairly smooth.

But just when he thought everything would continue smoothly, a sudden premonition surged into his mind.

The fox tail beneath him abruptly accelerated—Hu Li's voice then quickly rang in his ear: "Savior! It seems something has locked onto my tail!"

Yu Sheng immediately felt the fur on the fox tail beneath him fluffing up!

That is especially scratchy!

"Sorry Savior, I can't control it!" Hu Li's voice was both tense and awkward, "I-I-I … I'm freaking out! Something's staring at me!"

Yu Sheng also sensed the unknown "gaze" at this moment. He instinctively turned his head and caught sight of a pure white flash suddenly bursting forth from a corner of the Star Gate ring — compared to the Star Gate, the flash was as small as a speck of dust, but its presence was as intense as a blazing sun!

In the next second, he saw clearly what it was.

It was a humanoid creature — he could only describe it like this because from the outside it appeared to be nothing more than a blazing mass of light with a human outline. It had no face, stood tall and holy, and as it charged from the surface of the Star Gate into space, a pair of giant wings made of light emerged from its back out of thin air. The wings gently flapped, and amidst the ebb and flow of the radiance, it emitted almost ... saintly power.

"What the heck is that—"

Yu Sheng exclaimed, and then saw the creature was holding a giant sword seemingly entirely formed of energy, continuously emitting light flames. In the next moment, the giant sword pointed in their direction, and pure white brilliance condensed at the tip, then suddenly released.

A blazing white light pierced through the space, a light cannon shot right their way.

Yu Sheng didn't know how powerful this light cannon was, nor did he want to know — he tightly grasped the fur on the Fox Tail, and in a subtle telepathic connection, the propulsion flames behind the Fox Tail suddenly erupted, sending him narrowly past the edge of the light cannon, and just this close encounter caused the Protective Spirit Qi around the Fox Tail to explode one after another, almost extinguished!

"Holy heck!" Yu Sheng looked back and found that the winged light creature had already caught up, and as its giant sword lifted, another light cannon shot past his head, "… Damn, it can rapid-fire, Luna quickly see what this is!"

As he spoke, the Control Hall of the Otherworld Inn had already activated the holographic projection, directly transmitting Yu Sheng's space view to the ship — the humanoid creature with wings and saintly aura promptly appeared in the holographic projection.

Luna suddenly stood up from the chair: "It's... it's a Living Saint!"

"What's a Living Saint?" Yu Sheng's voice echoed in the hall, "Wow, it's chasing pretty closely... whoa, almost got hit!"

"It's… it's 'an envoy,' elevated by the Lord, 'Divine Envoy,'" Luna explained desperately, stuttering and anxious, "but, I'm not sure, back then, I couldn't see clearly..."

"Alright, got it, anyway, it's a boss unit stronger than you, right," Yu Sheng quickly said, "No way, can't defeat this, Erin do the math—"

Before Yu Sheng finished speaking, a small puppet stood up from a chair: "Bloodshed! Immediately!"

"Then I'm at ease—"

Yu Sheng shouted, and then in the space tightly clutched two tufts of fur on the Fox Tail, turning his head to see the main ring of the Star Gate not far below, gritting his teeth: "Hu Li! Directly accelerate into the Star Gate! I'll make an opening for it!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

The propulsion flames behind the Fox Tail erupted again, Yu Sheng felt this intense acceleration was almost crushing his internal organs, and simultaneously, the humanoid creature called "Living Saint" caught up again and raised its hand, firing another light cannon.

The Protective Spirit Qi around the Fox Tail shattered in response, and even the hastily erected second shield melted in a second, the residual scorching brilliance sweeping across his body, making Yu Sheng feel like he was already well-done by forty percent.

He felt the Fox Tail beneath him was gradually disintegrating, the Spiritual Power forming this tail began using the remaining strength to execute the final acceleration.

A hint of holy white light appeared in the corner of his view.

Yu Sheng slightly turned his head, against the gradually expanding background of the Star Gate ring, saw the tall "Holy Light creature" charging towards him straightly, its face entirely blurred into a radiant mass seemingly smiling — like the perfect yet lifeless smile on the Artificial Saintess' face.

The "Living Saint" raised its giant sword high, after this relatively short chase, it seemed intent on ending this pursuit with a decapitating strike.

Yu Sheng turned his head, in the corner of his eye, he could already see the towering high towers and antenna systems on the main ring of the Star Gate — the corona of the cooling Brown Dwarf Star hung above the Star Gate, the dark red hot spots writhing like blood in the black hydrogen sea, forming the "sky" in his view at the moment.

He fell from the sky, towards the dark steel structure of the Star Gate.

The Fox Tail exploded with one last impact, while simultaneously launching Yu Sheng out, its remaining structure violently collided with the giant sword of the Living Saint, blossoming into a grand flame in the universe.

Yu Sheng raised his hand towards the humanoid figure chasing through the Fox Fire, mimicked a shooting gesture.

"Bang—"

Space was silent, but Yu Sheng's voice was full of conviction.
