Dimensional Hotel
Chapter 733 - 732: Valhalla
In the following days, nothing unusual happened in either the Garden Network or the real world.
The observatory on Black Star’s orbit had already begun operations. Marin and the other Alice Puppets started considering building a communication system tailored for docking with the Black Star Observatory. Social order on Pasture Star had initially stabilized, and the Council’s dispatched administrative officials and ground security forces had smoothly taken over the planet’s daily affairs.
Perhaps something was happening beyond the borders of this world, but within the borders, the sun still rose as usual, and everything remained in its daily course.
In the Soul Wilderness, Erin (in her golden-haired puppet form) was straining her eyes to peer into the distance, slowly widening them.
After a long while, the Puppet Lady finally let out a drawn-out exclamation: "Oh my god!! C-type buckle, haven’t you gone a bit overboard... In just a few days you managed to create this outrageous thing?!"
The golden-haired female knight standing beside her wore a reserved smile—today Luna had specially changed back into her silver-white armor from her nun’s habit, paired with a golden Holy Sword, exuding a spirited and heroic air: "Strictly speaking, it’s been seven days—and this isn’t even the final appearance of this city."
The Puppet Lady’s eyes widened even further.
Yu Sheng stood next to the two of them; although he was quite shocked like Erin, he at least managed to keep a straight face.
A magnificent city stood before him, erect in the chaotic skylight that intertwined with shades of black, white, and gray in the Soul Wilderness.
The city was filled with spired towers and tall buildings lined in close rows, complemented by majestic domes supported by dignified pillars. The Knights’ districts surrounded the city center like petals, and between these districts lay enormous gardens and sculptures. Those gardens bloomed with pale, magnificent flowers, imbued with a splendor and quiet serenity thanks to the Holy Ladies’ powers.
The grand black Great Cathedral stood at the city’s center. Luna and her sisters seemingly used some method to elevate the entire basilica’s foundation, making the Holy Temple and its surroundings tower over Valhalla like a small mountain or the tip of a pyramid.
The Crystal Tree continued to stand in the cathedral’s courtyard, and its colossal canopy had recently grown to some limit. The edges of its canopy extended far beyond the outer walls of the cathedral, its glowing Crystal Branches hanging down from the space outside the cathedral. Some intertwine near the ground to form giant vine-like structures, even sprawling into the lower parts of the city.
Yu Sheng also noticed that the glow emitted by the Crystal Holy Tree was spreading outward, even filling the streets and rooftops of Valhalla. The crystalline light flows drifted throughout the city, coating what were once rocky, gray-toned buildings in a layer of silvery brilliance.
A light-forged city, the black Great Cathedral at the city center, and the sky-covering Crystal Giant Tree—Yu Sheng had to admit, when it came to building houses, Luna and her sisters indeed surpassed him by quite a margin.
"What do you think?"
Luna turned her head to Yu Sheng with a radiant smile.
They currently stood on a height near Valhalla, where Luna had specially built a high platform. From this platform, one could gaze at both the bonfire and Valhalla.
Yu Sheng rubbed his chin, his face showing a stern expression.
"Only one suggestion," he said, striving to maintain a straight face.
Curiosity gleamed in Luna’s eyes: "Please, go ahead."
Yu Sheng struggled to hold his expression: "Replace those absurd statues on either side of the city’s gate and the cathedral avenue."
Luna pursed her lips.
Seeing her expression, Yu Sheng knew immediately she had anticipated this reaction from the start, and did it on purpose.
"Don’t be like that," as soon as Erin saw Yu Sheng’s struggling expression, she began to egg him on, "It looks pretty cool, right? And they got you a flashy set of armor and a cape..."
Yu Sheng found it even harder to keep his composure: "Replace them, replace them, even if you change all these statues to Brass Knights... Yes, make them Brass Knights in full armor, looking dignified and symbolic."
Luna squinted, then quickly mumbled something inaudible, which Yu Sheng didn’t quite catch, before lifting her hand towards the city, clenching it from afar.
The two statues of Yu Sheng at the city gate began to rumble and reshape, transforming in the blink of an eye into two knights standing with their swords.
Yu Sheng: "...So those two at the gate were your handiwork?"
Luna averted her eyes, pretending not to hear.
A few minutes later, the three left the high platform outside the city, stepping into the "City of Souls" named Valhalla.
"The houses are so big," Erin couldn’t help but look up along the way—though she appeared as a large puppet here, unfortunately, most of the buildings in the city were ridiculously tall, "Do you guys even fill up these spaces? And these hall-like structures... wait a moment, they aren’t solid inside, are they?"
"Those are the Knights’ training grounds, and places where the Knight Order conducts war games and discussions," Luna glanced at Erin, "You think we’re like you, with seven groups sharing one mind and throwing thousands of cannon fodder into a fight just gets it done?"
Erin puffed her chest with pride: "It’s seven squads, actually!"
Yu Sheng glanced at the blonde large puppet beside him, then looked at the grand City of Souls before him, the corner of his mouth twitching: "I really can’t tell which of you two is more ridiculous..."
"This city should undergo many changes in the future," Luna considered, suddenly starting to add, "Even though it looks... spectacular, there are many inadequacies. After all, it’s everyone’s first time doing this. Many people got too excited when they realized they could shape their new home with their thoughts. Some areas of the city thus lack planning, and some buildings still require post-construction adjustments..."
For some reason, as the Holy Lady continued, her words began to carry a hint of guilty conscience towards the end.
However, at that moment, Yu Sheng was fully engrossed by the façade of the city before him, his eyes wandering in awe, paying little attention to what Luna meant by post-construction adjustments to some buildings.
Until Yu Sheng had to stop in front of a grand high wall.
A residential-like structure was embedded in the high wall, with no entrance visible, and a few windows opened—inside the windows was just the wall.
Yu Sheng craned his neck and pondered for a while, thinking at first whether this was some kind of avant-garde architectural art. Then he saw a spire protruding from another corner of the wall.
It was a clock tower on the other side of the wall—built askew, with the roof piercing through the high wall.
Erin looked up for a long time, finally understanding the situation, and exclaimed: "...C-type buckle, your building seems to have some clipping issues?!"
"There are some slight issues with the construction planning..." Luna’s expression finally turned awkward, followed by a series of explanations—about misaligned construction, a sister’s imagination surpassing the terrain constraints, and a brother from the Knight Order placing the wall incorrectly, causing the clock tower to crash into the adjacent training ground...
To be fair, Luna’s rapid-fire explanations were no less verbose than Erin’s chattering.
Yu Sheng was stunned listening to this, then finally snapped out of the visual impact brought by this grand city, glanced around, and spotted several clipping buildings, houses without doors, crooked towers, and halls that seemed solid.
He also saw Alfne standing in front of the solid hall, leading several knights in discussions, and vaguely overheard snippets:
"...Why don’t we tear it down and rebuild?"
"Can’t we try to scrape it...it’s hard enough making the outer wall symmetrical..."
"Scrape? Such a big building, how do you scrape it! The second floor of Sela’s house next door was scraped out, look how many patches are on her roof?"
"Huh? So those are patches covering holes after scraping the house...layer upon layer, I thought they were tiles..."
Yu Sheng: "..."
A moment later, he turned to look at Luna.
"No wonder you specially made a high platform for me to view the city from afar, just to see the grandeur from a distance?"
Luna’s face turned crimson (to be fair, she never had such a lively expression outside): "Actually, most areas are in good condition, what you see here is mainly the architectural testing ground, where creativity tends to be abundant..."
Yet before she finished speaking, Yu Sheng heard a sudden loud rumble from nearby and looked up, spotting a spire collapsing towards the high wall.
However, in this Soul World, the collapse of a tower is not a big deal—halfway through the collapse, it abruptly stopped in mid-air, and a column magically rose from the opposite wall to temporarily support the spire’s roof.
A girl with fiery red hair jumped out of a mid-level window of the tower, looking dusty, followed closely by several knights also jumping out of the window, a group of people standing on the open ground looking up at the collapsing tower.
After a while, the red-haired girl whispered to the tall knight beside her: "Why don’t we convert it into a bridge?"
"...Where would we live then?"
"Under the bridge, of course."
"We spent several days building such a tower, only to end up living under a bridge?!"
"Alfne and the others are living in tents now!"
"..."
Yu Sheng listened to the voices coming from not far away, then looked at this City of Souls, grand from afar but all clipping issues up close, before finally withdrawing his gaze and slightly tilting his head to look at the sky.
For a moment, it was unclear what he was thinking.
Luna suddenly grew somewhat uneasy: "Sorry, we should have waited a little longer before inviting you...in some time it’ll surely be finished...but everyone wanted you to see what we’ve..."
But at that moment, Yu Sheng suddenly interrupted her: "Luna."
"Ah, yes?"
"Is everyone having fun?" Yu Sheng withdrew his gaze from the sky, smiling as he spoke.
Luna paused for a moment.
Then she seemed to understand something, turned to look around at the big houses created with wild imagination, at the brothers and sisters eagerly discussing how to remodel the bungled houses—vaguely, the uncertain and anxious images of everyone gathered in this desolate wilderness seemed still fresh in her mind, but now she only felt the scene before her...a bit chaotic, but lively.
She understood Yu Sheng’s meaning, and her face gradually bloomed into a smile: "Yes, very happy."
"Then that’s good."
