Divine Convenience Store
Chapter 617: Curiosity or Hostility
"Three thousand Foundation Establishment Disciples from their allies to help them push through an Anchor and meet with a Dreilling. Sounds like a desperate plan." Lin Mo smirked as he skimmed through the report Jin Cheng sent over.
While he was expecting them to continue going against the trend of defending the Realm of Nine Heavens, initiating contact with the invading Outer Realm is madness.
"Let's see how it'll go. I'll write a report about this to Taihao and Zhenren Lihua. But I doubt it'll make a splash. At least, if things went south, the Violethaven Temple would be the first to face the brunt. I'd better focus on what's happening near us."
Upon saying that, he set aside the report after giving Jin Cheng acknowledgement for his diligent intelligence gathering.
Looking at his current remittance, he's quickly approaching Yu Qingyan's current progress. After all, he was doing it differently from her.
Instead of doing the distribution personally by doing a caravan that would go from city to city, Jin Cheng mobilized his whole guild and its connections.
Yu Qingyan was aware of it. Lin Mo even told her she could also use the Verdant Sky Pavilion to help her expand her distribution operation.
But the woman refused.
She said the Verdant Sky Pavilion isn't hers yet. She may be in line to be bestowed the title of Pavilion Master when her grandmother steps down, but she doesn't want to supersede her authority so early.
Besides, the Verdant Sky Pavilion is currently pouring all its resources into making the 'Omniscient Archive' a reality.
Of course, it won't just exist in the Bulletin Board. They'll also set up sealed libraries where they'll put restricted access to the more delicate knowledge. Patrons with Viewing Jades could request access through the Omniscient Archive page.
"Alright, time to work."
Lin Mo waved his hand and used the three daily Local Scan uses of the [Anomaly & Corruption Sensor Network] to sweep the vulnerable perimeters of the Eastern Abyssal Domain.
The holographic map of the continent expanded across his vision, bathed in the pulsating purple-green light that represented the Great Poison Demon's repurposed divine sense.
It was a bizarre juxtaposition, using the essence of a Chaotic Deity as a high-tech radar sweep, but in the business of convenience, utility always trumped aesthetics.
He selected three distinct coordinates, spacing them out to maximize coverage.
The first was near the coastal borders of the Rising Sun Ocean Pavilion.
The second was along the southern mountain ranges bordering the Southern Wilderness.
And the third was aimed directly at the western chokepoints, the very borders where the Eastern Abyssal Domain met the vast, hostile expanse of the Western Sacred Lands.
[Local Scan 1/3 Complete. Minor corruption detected in the Azure Trench. Mutated Deep-Sea crustaceans exhibiting signs of foreign energy infusion. Threat Level: Low.]
[Local Scan 2/3 Complete. Residual Demonic Energy detected in the Southern Valleys. Dispersing naturally. No active Anchor presence. Threat Level: Negligible.]
[Local Scan 3/3 Complete. Multiple high-density, unmasked cultivation signatures detected crossing the Western Border. Signatures do not match known biological corruption or Outer Realm entities. Classification: Humanoid Cultivators. Estimated Cultivation Base: Peak Law Integration to Immortal Embryo Stage.]
Lin Mo's finger paused upon reading that third scan.
The relaxed posture he had maintained had evaporated instantly.
"Immortal Embryo Stage?" He muttered as his eyebrows twitched.
This was another problem.
In the entire Eastern Abyssal Domain, there wasn't a single cultivator at the Immortal Embryo Stage. Liu Tianfeng, the strongest among his patrons, was only at the peak of Void Refinement. He's still a step away from the Law Integration Stage.
And the Immortal Embryo Stage is the stage above that.
An expert of that stage would be a walking calamity, an existence just one step shy of facing the immortal ascension tribulation and ascending to the Second Heaven.
At that stage, they were already starting to nourish their immortal soul, albeit only as an embryo. Only when they truly passed the immortal tribulation would the immortal soul fully awaken.
To have multiple signatures of that caliber suddenly crossing the border from the West... are they about to decimate the Eastern Abyssal Region?
Looks like even the Golden Carp Trading Guild failed to catch this event.
Based on the scan, there were only three of them. These were solitary, blazing suns moving independently across the map, completely ignoring the established travel routes.
"Wu Meiyu," Lin Mo called out, not looking away from the screen.
A moment later, the First Princess appeared next to him with her usual immaculate grace, carrying a fresh tray of [Spirit-Calming Tea] and a plate of [Starcrisp Biscuits].
"You called, Shopkeeper?" She set the tray down, her sharp eyes immediately catching the tension in his shoulders. "Is it the Sunken Caverns? Has the Dreilling made a move?"
"No. Look at this." Lin Mo pointed to the third scan result. "The Local Scan picked up some incredibly heavy hitters crossing over from the West. Immortal Embryo Stage. And they aren't trying to hide."
Wu Meiyu's elegant composure cracked as she too suddenly frowned. She sat down beside him as she peered at the data.
"Immortal Embryo… Our Southern Wu Kingdom has never met one before. No. The entire Eastern Abyssal Domain has yet to see one. Even if by some miraculous chance in the past, they won't stay in our region for long."
"Clearly, they're coming for our store. If they're going to be like that Violethaven Temple Grand Elder, then the Divine Guardian Construct can block them. Even if it's not enhanced yet, it can only truly be defeated by a Tribulation Transcendence Stage cultivator." Lin Mo put a hand on his chin as he began to calculate the odds of whether they're coming as a patron or a dog to the temple.
He banned the Violethaven Temple from the store, so everyone affiliated with it won't even be able to access a Viewing Jade. But if these experts are not from the temple, he might have to issue more bans.
The problem is… no one in the Eastern Abyssal Domain can resist them if they decide to rampage.
The store can offer refuge but… it absolutely cannot house everyone.
"Lin Mo, it's best not to think of the worst-case scenario yet. They're lofty figures. They won't just stoop low in massacring an entire region." Wu Meiyu tried to calm his thoughts, "Is there an estimate of when they'll arrive?"
Lin Mo glanced at the scan again and expanded the report.
[Target 1: Patriarch Skyflame – Celestial Flame Order. Mid Immortal Embryo Stage. Estimated Time of Arrival: 14 Hours.]
[Target 2: Patriarch Jadebone – Jade Sovereign Sect. Peak Law Integration Stage. Estimated Time of Arrival: 16 Hours, 15 Minutes.]
[Target 3: Matriarch Deep-Root – Mangrove Covenant. Peak Law Integration Stage. Estimated Time of Arrival: 17 Hours, 30 Minutes.]
[Note: Targets are not currently masking their spiritual signatures. Trajectory indicates a direct, high-speed approach toward Fanling City. Aggression levels: Indeterminate. Curiosity levels: High.]
Lin Mo let out a long breath that ruffled the steam rising from his cup. Although the Local Scan detected them passing the borders between the region, it seems they won't arrive anytime soon. There's at least more than half a day.
Furthermore, the fact that they're not traveling together means… they're working independently. Whatever their purpose, the curiosity level told him enough.
Somehow, he couldn't help but thank the Great Poison Demon for using its divine sense to upgrade the [Area Monitor]. That detailed scan even revealed their origins.
However… there's one thing common to them, and it once again made Lin Mo feel a cold sweat running down his temple.
"They aren't from the Violethaven Temple. But they're its allies. No, these are the heavyweights from the other major Western factions. The ones Jin Cheng mentioned to be closely related to the Temple. The ones sending those thousands of Foundation Establishment Stage disciples."
Wu Meiyu's eyes widened, her sharp political acumen immediately catching up to his train of thought. "Are they here to investigate? Violethaven requested three thousand of their most elite disciples for what might become a suicide mission. Even bound by ancient oaths, no sect leader of that caliber would simply hand over their future generation without wanting to see the beast that scared the Violethaven Temple so thoroughly."
"Mhm. That's probably the case. Violethaven Temple asking them for their disciples prompted them to become curious about us." Lin Mo took a sip from his tea before breathing out again. The initial shock of facing Immortal Embryo Stage experts, beings who could theoretically pluck the moon from the sky if they tried hard enough, was already fading.
"For now, we can label them as tourists, Meiyu. Very dangerous and highly explosive tourists, but tourists nonetheless. They're coming to appraise our Divine Convenience Store. So, what do you think we should do?"
"Lin Mo, you know as well as I do what's running in your head." Wu Meiyu's lips stretched into a thin smile, "If we can, we have to turn them into patrons. But are you confident?"
"That depends on their stance." Lin Mo matched her smile.
Liu Xiaoyu, who couldn't join their conversation, clicked her tongue as she saw them smirking at each other like they were conspiring against immortals.
