Divine Emperor Demon Emperor
Chapter 186: Yanhuang List
Wang Yi left, as did Wang Tianwu and Wang Yun. Soon, the only ones remaining in the entire Martial Arts Training Ground were Wangcai and his father, along with Lin Yun and Little Ape.
Approaching him, Wangcai was at a loss for words. After all, the Royal Guards had tried to kill Lin Yun, but Lin Yun had also killed many of them in return. Given the circumstances, Wangcai didn’t know what to say.
Sensing Wangcai’s dilemma, Lin Yun offered a faint smile. "Let’s go to your place. I’m a seriously injured man now, after all."
Lin Yun broke the awkward silence. He then turned to Wang Tianwen and greeted him politely, "Uncle."
As Wangcai’s father, Wang Tianwen naturally held no animosity toward Lin Yun. He smiled and nodded at him, then said to Wangcai, "You two head back first. I’m going to check on Father."
Wang Tianwen was likely going to check on him, figuring his father was still furious with Lin Yun.
Lin Yun followed Wangcai to a remote courtyard on the side of the Prince’s Mansion. This was where Wangcai and his father, members of the Wang Family’s direct lineage, now lived. It was all, of course, the handiwork of Wang Yun and his father.
There was only a single Maid, and the furniture wasn’t particularly lavish. Nothing about the place suggested Wangcai was from the direct lineage of the Wang Family, the wealthiest family in the Capital City.
’Of course, Lin Yun didn’t mind any of this. But now that he and Wangcai were friends, he was determined to help him in any way he could, especially when it came to dealing with Wang Yun and his father.’
Wangcai showed Lin Yun to a guest room. Once inside, Lin Yun swallowed a Life Extending Pill. The injuries he’d sustained today were truly severe. Without the pill, it would be impossible to recover anytime soon.
As the Life Extending Pill took effect, a cooling sensation spread through his body. The intense pain wracking his frame gradually subsided under its influence, a testament to the pill’s potency.
He calmed his mind to focus on healing. Lin Yun slowly circulated the Elemental Power within him, gradually refining the medicinal essence of the Life Extending Pill. His injuries were so severe that he didn’t dare to circulate his power too quickly, making the absorption of the pill’s effects extremely slow.
Lin Yun spent a full day and night focused on his recovery. By the evening of the second day, his injuries were finally under control, and the Life Extending Pill’s medicinal effects had been fully absorbed. From here on, he would need to rely on slow, steady meditation to return to his peak condition.
Stepping out of his room, Lin Yun headed for the main hall. He hadn’t even entered yet—just as he reached the doorway, he heard Wangcai and Wang Tianwen arguing.
"That’s utterly disrespectful! No matter what, he is your grandfather! His blood flows through your veins," Wang Tianwen rebuked.
The words had barely left his mouth when Wangcai shot back, his own voice thick with anger. "He’s no grandfather of mine! Ever since you were injured, Father, when has he once shown you any concern? And all the things our dear uncle has done to us—even if he doesn’t know every last detail, he knows the gist of it. But has he ever said a word? Is it because Uncle and his family are his children, but we aren’t?"
Listening to the father and son quarrel, Lin Yun had a good idea what it was about. ’It must be about Wang Yi.’
Wangcai felt that Wang Yi had never cared for them, while Wang Tianwen believed that no matter what his father did, he was still his father and Wangcai’s grandfather.
It wasn’t Lin Yun’s place to interfere in Wangcai’s family affairs, so he intended to slip away unnoticed. But Wangcai spotted him. Perhaps heated from the argument, Wangcai grabbed Lin Yun’s arm, pulled him into the room, and turned to Wang Tianwen.
"Lin Shan is my friend! Wang Yun completely disrespects me, openly trying to assassinate my friend, and Grandfather doesn’t even bother to distinguish right from wrong! You still expect me to treat a grandfather like that with kindness?"
"Nonsense! Wangcai, shut your mouth!" Wang Tianwen raged.
The two were arguing fiercely. Lin Yun hadn’t wanted to get involved—as the saying goes, even an honest judge can’t settle family disputes. But since he’d been dragged into it, he had no choice but to try and mediate.
"Uncle, please, calm down. I’m sure you can understand how Wangcai feels," Lin Yun said, addressing Wang Tianwen.
"In truth, I don’t think you two need to be arguing about this. The root of all these problems is Wang Tianwu and his family. As long as you can recover your strength, Uncle, I doubt your grandfather would continue to let Wang Tianwu and his son run wild."
Lin Yun’s words made perfect sense, but recovering from Wang Tianwen’s injuries was easier said than done. Without an Earth Level Six-Stars Alchemist from the Royal Family, it was simply impossible.
Suddenly, a thought struck him. Wangcai’s eyes, as he looked at Lin Yun, filled with hope, like a drowning man clutching at a lifeline.
"Lin Shan, I, Wangcai, will forever be in your debt for this monumental favor..." The sudden declaration left Lin Yun completely bewildered.
’What is Wangcai going on about? I haven’t done anything.’ Only Wang Tianwen, who was watching his son, seemed to have guessed what was on Wangcai’s mind.
’But even if Lin Yun were to help, it would be incredibly difficult.’
Not understanding what Wangcai was getting at, Lin Yun could only pull him over to a chair and have him sit down. Only after some careful questioning did Lin Yun finally understand the reason for Wangcai’s sudden outburst.
As it turned out, there was a special ranking list in the Capital City. The Royal Family had established a Battle Arena, open only to Martial Artists under the age of thirty. Within this Martial Arts Arena, the Royal Family maintained a special ranking known as the Yanhuang List.
Any Martial Artist who managed to get on the Yanhuang List was granted one opportunity: to make a single request of the Royal Family. Of course, the request couldn’t be too outrageous.
Originally, Wangcai wouldn’t have even considered it. Even though Lin Yun was a disciple of the Genius Class, his cultivation was too low to make it onto the Yanhuang List.
The Yanhuang List had only ten spots. To earn a place, one had to defeat an existing member. These ten individuals were, without exaggeration, the ten strongest members of Yanhuang Country’s younger generation in terms of combat power.
The very weakest among them was at the Mid-Stage of the Qi Sea Realm. It was no exaggeration to say that all ten were invincible within the Qi Sea Realm; an ordinary Martial Artist at that realm wouldn’t last a single exchange against them.
But after seeing Lin Yun kill so many Royal Guards today, Wangcai had a newfound appreciation for his combat power, which brought this possibility back to mind.
After hearing Wangcai’s explanation, Lin Yun wasn’t particularly interested in the Yanhuang List itself. ’It’s just a ranking list for the Yanhuang Royal Family, nothing prestigious,’ he thought.
’But getting on the list means getting to make one request of the Royal Family. And right now, that’s the only way to get Wang Tianwen cured.’
Without much hesitation, Lin Yun agreed. "No problem. I might as well go and test myself against the ten strongest fighters in Yanhuang Country."
Seeing Lin Yun agree, a joyful smile spread across Wangcai’s face. Even Wang Tianwen, standing to the side, looked slightly excited. Though there was no guarantee, both father and son now pinned their hopes on Lin Yun’s combat power.
"Lin Shan," Wangcai said with utmost gravity, "from now on, my life is yours. Just say the word, and I’ll do anything you ask."
Lin Yun just smiled. "We’re friends."
Those two simple words, "We’re friends," warmed Wangcai’s heart. After all, the chance to make a request of the Royal Family was an incredible opportunity, not something one would selflessly give up for another person.
