Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me - Chapter 194: Deception
Maggie’s face was deathly pale as she asked uncertainly, "Tristan, what do you mean?" She admitted she had faked it, but only a little. She had genuinely felt faint at first, so in her mind, she hadn’t really deceived him.
"You faked it, didn’t you? Just to trick me into coming here? Maggie, I always thought you were a kind, understanding woman." Lately, he felt that Maggie had changed. She wasn’t the woman he used to know. The person she’d become recently gave him a headache, vexed him, and left him at a loss for how to face her...
Maggie pushed herself into a sitting position. In all the years they had known each other, this was likely the first time Tristan had ever spoken to her like that. No one could possibly understand the depth of her pain. "So what now? Tristan, without even asking why, you’ve just decided I’m a bad woman?"
"I only trust what I see with my own eyes. Maggie, I’m telling you for the last time, don’t pull this kind of stunt ever again." All he saw was Maggie faking a faint to trick him into coming here.
With that, Tristan Grayson turned to leave the hospital room.
Watching Tristan Grayson leave, Maggie summoned all her courage and shouted at his back, "Tristan Grayson, are you tired of me?"
He froze. Maybe it was because she had hit a nerve, or maybe it was because he couldn’t believe he could ever get tired of her. Whatever the reason, when he heard her voice, he stood rooted to the spot, his brow furrowed in agony.
"Tristan, you say I deceived you, but what about you? Have you never lied to me? Are you secretly planning to leave me?"
As if enraged by her words, Tristan Grayson spun around furiously. "I’ve never thought that!" Never once had he considered abandoning her. No matter how emotionally exhausted or miserable he’d felt lately, he had never thought of leaving her, because he knew with absolute certainty that Maggie truly couldn’t survive without him.
"But you have a child with that woman!" Maggie had been holding it all in for too long. Clutching her head, she broke down, sobbing.
Her words hit Tristan Grayson’s heart like a bomb, blowing it to pieces, leaving nothing but dust in its wake.
His hands, trembling, clenched into tight fists as he struggled to remain standing. The child was a source of deep pain for him, but it was also the one way he had truly wronged Maggie. He had betrayed their love.
"Aren’t you two divorced? Didn’t you say you don’t like that woman at all? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t touch her even if she were the last woman on Earth? Tristan, were all those things you said just lies to make me happy?" In the past, whenever she threw a fit, Tristan would soothe her. Whenever she cried, he would rush to hold her. But now, he made no move at all. He just stood there, frowning and staring at her coldly.
He didn’t offer a single word of explanation, nor did he make her another promise.
’He couldn’t even be bothered to tell her a lie. A man’s heart could be that cruel. When they said they didn’t love you anymore, they really meant it.’
Even though Tristan had a child with that woman, even though he had lied to her about everything, she still couldn’t lose him. To her, losing Tristan was like losing her life. She could barely speak through her sobs, but she still pleaded desperately, "Tristan, tell me, you’re still going to marry me, right? You’re still going to give me a home, aren’t you?"
Tristan Grayson stumbled back a couple of steps, keeping his voice as steady as he could. "Maggie, I’m sorry. I... I can’t answer that right now." ’That was right. He couldn’t answer her. He couldn’t promise he would marry her or give her a home.’
Without another moment’s hesitation, he turned coldly and left the room. Not three seconds after the door closed, Maggie’s agonized wails echoed from within.
Tristan Grayson didn’t go far. He leaned against the wall just down the hall from her room and began to smoke, lighting one cigarette right after the other...
