Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Unpleasant Smell

Jasmine reluctantly let go of Mika. Her eyes scanned the house, and she couldn’t help but exclaim, "Mika, this villa is huge, and the decor is so beautiful."

"Mm." Mika glanced around casually. ’It is pretty big,’ she thought, ’but it doesn’t give me the same peace of mind as my old place.’

That house hadn’t been large, but she had felt safe there. It had felt like home. This place, on the other hand, was just big. It felt empty and desolate. She gave a self-deprecating laugh at the thought and dragged her suitcase upstairs to find a room.

Unlike Jasmine, she was in no mood to admire the decor. To her, as long as she had a place to stay, a roof over her head, it was enough. She didn’t really care about anything else.

Jasmine quickly grabbed her luggage and hurried after Mika. "It’s just too far from the city," she said as she walked. "Mika, you have a driver’s license, don’t you? Why don’t we go buy a car today? It would make it so much more convenient for you to go shopping and run errands."

"..." Mika did a circuit of the second floor. There were four rooms in total. She glanced back at Jasmine, who was looking at her with a stunned expression, then smiled and took her luggage straight into the largest bedroom.

Annoyed at being ignored, Jasmine stomped her foot. "Mika, did you even hear a word I said?"

"Yeah, I heard you," she said, "and I think you’re right. But I’m tired and just want to get some sleep. Can we go car shopping another day?" With that, she tossed her suitcase aside, slipped off her shoes, and climbed into bed.

However, the moment her head touched the bed, a strange smell flooded her nostrils. Pinching her nose, she shot upright.

"What’s wrong?" Jasmine had been about to say something else, but Mika’s sudden movement startled her, and she asked anxiously.

"It stinks! How long has it been since these sheets were washed?!" With that, Mika scrambled off the bed as if fleeing the plague.

That leap scared the daylights out of Jasmine. "Good heavens, girl! You’re going to give me a heart attack! You’re pregnant, take it easy!" she cried, rushing over. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

She picked up the top sheet and sniffed it, her brow wrinkling in disgust. "Why does it smell like medicine? And... is that a woman’s perfume mixed in? That’s so damn gross."

Jasmine’s words sent a cold shiver through Mika’s entire body. "What did you say?" ’A smell of medicine mixed with a woman’s perfume? So... someone lived in this villa before?’

"Someone must have lived here before, I guess. But judging by the decor, it looks like it was renovated in the last year or two. Anyway, it’s no big deal. You go sit downstairs. I’ll call a cleaning service to have some people come over, and then we’ll go buy all new bedding."

"..." Mika didn’t hear a single word Jasmine said. All that registered was that a woman had lived here.

And the first name that popped into her head was, of course, *that* woman’s.

’Tristan always used to say that Maggie Monroe was sick and didn’t have long to live. So... so this villa was where Maggie used to live?’

’So Tristan just gave her a villa that other woman didn’t want anymore? Was this some kind of handout?’

’And he had the nerve to tell her it was an exchange for her old house.’

’Heh... How ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous...’

"I’m not staying here! Jasmine, we’re leaving! Right now!" She bent down, put her shoes back on, and grabbed her suitcase, ready to walk out.

Jasmine grabbed her arm, asking in confusion, "What do you mean, ’leave’? Why would we leave? It’s a beautiful house, why wouldn’t you want to live here?"

"I just don’t want to live here, that’s all!" ’Why should I have to live in a house that woman lived in?’
