"Silas, I can’t go back with you today," Mika said coolly, looking up.

"Not go back with me?"

She gathered her things from the table and stood up. "Yes. Kiki doesn’t even recognize me as his mother right now. I want to spend some more time with him before bringing him home."

"Heh..." Silas suddenly smirked. "How long will that take?"

Mika froze for a moment. Then, she recalled the image of Kiki sleeping soundly in her arms last night, and a warm smile touched her lips. "Kids are pretty easy to win over. It shouldn’t take too long. This weekend, I’ll take him out for a couple of days."

"Alright. This weekend, I’ll go with you two."

"Okay, it’s a plan, then. I’ll just..." Mika trailed off, her gaze turning to Silas, asking for permission.

Silas gave a slight nod.

Mika felt a sense of relief. "I’ll be going, then."

"Mm."

After Mika left the office, Silas sank back onto the sofa, looking dejected.

He raised a hand and yanked off his tie, then unfastened the buttons on his shirt cuffs. His entire demeanor was gloomy and irritable.

...

After leaving the office, Mika drove straight to the villa.

However, as she was passing a store, her brows knitted together tightly.

She pulled the car over to the side of the road, got out, and walked toward the store.

’Kiki was so big now, and she had yet to buy him a single gift. Yesterday, she had been so anxious to see him that she’d completely forgotten to prepare one beforehand.’

Staring at the vast array of toys in the toy section, her brow furrowed deeply.

’What does Kiki like to play with?’

’Maybe I should just get one of everything?’

And so, she did.

The toys alone filled her entire trunk. Then, she spotted a shop selling children’s clothing.

After a moment’s thought, she decided to go take a look.

Even though she had no idea what size clothing would fit Kiki.

When she saw the infant wear, Mika’s expression faltered for a moment, and a flash of sorrow crossed her eyes.

She tore her gaze away, grabbed a set of clothes that looked like they would fit Kiki, and headed for the checkout counter.

When she got to the counter, a young couple was already there, paying for their items.

The couple seemed to hesitate after hearing the price, and then they began to argue. The woman wanted to buy both outfits, but the man felt it was unnecessary...

Her brows knitted together as she watched the young couple bicker endlessly.

Even though they were fighting over money, she found herself inexplicably envious of them. A dull ache spread through her chest, and her eyes began to sting.

She glanced at a nearby salesclerk who was standing by, unsure what to do. Catching the clerk’s eye with a subtle look, Mika moved to another counter.

The salesclerk quickly followed. "Miss, can I help you with something?"

"That young couple... I’ll pay for their other outfit." Mika took her wallet from her purse, pulled out a card, and said coolly, "Just tell them there’s a last-minute sale—buy one, get one free."

"But..." The salesclerk looked at Mika in confusion.

Mika smiled faintly. "You don’t want them arguing in here and affecting your business, do you? Go on, hurry."

"Okay, Miss. Please wait a moment."

Watching the salesclerk go to ring them up, Mika lowered her head and let out another self-deprecating laugh.

Just then, down the hall not far from Mika, a man stood stroking his chin, watching her with a thoughtful expression.
