Don't Lie to Your Therapist—She Already Knows Your Fate
Chapter 153 - 151: Only a Face Slap Will Do
But before he could even speak, he saw the man who terrified him.
Chaochao’s mother lay on a bed in the clinic.
"What have you done to my wife?! I’m going to report you to the police! This is human trafficking!"
Wen Ying sneered. "This is the best trick you could come up with?"
"I don’t know what you’re talking about! She’s the mother of my child, and you’re strangers! If I report this to the police, do you really think you can take her away?"
Qin Hanyun glared with dissatisfaction at the posturing scumbag before him. "What are you trying to do?"
"I want to take Chaochao’s mother home."
"Impossible! If you want money, just name your price."
Hearing Qin Hanyun, the man sized him up, as if weighing the truth of his words.
"Chaochao’s mother is more important to me than money. As long as you take the money and disappear from her life forever, just tell me how much you want."
"One million?" the man asked tentatively.
’He’d already forgotten that he originally came here to get Chaochao’s mother to go back and care for his parents. With money, he’d have everything. Would he still have to worry about finding a wife?’
’So many young women would be lining up to marry him!’
’Since he’d be rich, why would he ever think about this washed-up old woman?’
"Fine," Qin Hanyun said.
’But when he heard that, the man felt a twinge of regret. A million was a lot of money, enough to last him a good long while. But for this man to agree so readily, it must mean he was incredibly wealthy. To him, a million was probably no more than the cost of a single meal. Didn’t that mean he’d lowballed it?’
"The one million I mentioned is just a deposit! You pay me the deposit first, and we can sign an agreement! After we sign, you’ll pay me another five million!"
Faced with such a shameless, insatiably greedy expression, Qin Hanyun was still inclined to agree. As long as he had a contract, he wouldn’t have to fear these people bothering his sister again.
’Six million really isn’t a big deal to me. Finding my sister... that’s something no amount of money can buy.’
"Fine."
"Hold on."
The man shot Wen Ying a disgruntled look. "Doctor Wen, this doesn’t concern you, does it?" After all, she was just a young woman who seemed to be the owner of a small shop on this street. He wasn’t afraid of her.
"It’s true, it has nothing to do with me. But your shameless behavior is pissing me off. It’s making me nauseous. So now it has everything to do with me, doesn’t it?"
"Doctor Wen, I advise you not to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. People who meddle in others’ affairs don’t tend to meet a good end."
"I feel the same way. But I’m just a natural busybody, what can I say? It’s a habit I can’t break. So, as for this business today... I actually have nothing to say to you. Mr. Qin, there’s no need to waste your money. Understand?"
Seeing Doctor Wen suddenly turn to Qin Hanyun and tell him not to pay, the man grew anxious.
"You’re my wife’s... my ex-wife’s brother." The man, about to say "wife," immediately corrected himself when he caught the death glare shot his way.
"You shouldn’t listen to an outsider, should you?"
But he didn’t know what Wen Ying meant to Qin Hanyun.
To Qin Hanyun, Wen Ying’s words were practically gospel.
Qin Hanyun ignored the scumbag and posturing clown, instead looking to Wen Ying. "Doctor Wen?"
"Chaochao’s mother has no connection to him anymore. As long as she is willing to go back with you, do you really need to be afraid of them bothering her?"
"Don’t you forget that Chaochao is buried on my family’s property!" the man immediately threatened.
Wen Ying smiled and glanced at him. "Such a lovely child like Chaochao, how could she have a beast of a father like you? Her grave is on your property, that’s true, but accidents do happen, you know~"
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
Wen Ying didn’t bother responding to the buffoon.
"Mr. Qin, the innkeeper won’t let him stay, and the next closest place he could lodge is dozens of kilometers away. So he’ll be leaving tonight. You won’t be seeing each other again for the time being."
After saying this, Wen Ying looked at the man. "When your parents wanted to arrange a ghost marriage for Chaochao, did you really not know? You had a hand in all this, didn’t you? Your parents told you that you couldn’t be without a son, right? That as long as you got this money, you could find someone to bear you a son. And you agreed. The three of you conspired to deceive Chaochao and her mother, didn’t you? Are you playing the victim now because you want me to show everyone the evidence on your phone?"
Wen Ying’s tone was calm, but the man broke out in a cold sweat as he listened.
"You went along with their plan and left, all to deceive Chaochao’s mother. You allowed them to lock her up. You were even already planning to divorce her, on the condition that you got the money. But that plan failed, and the other family you had lined up turned their nose up at you. So you regretted it. And just then, your parents got sick, and you couldn’t take care of them, which led to today’s little performance.
"But heaven is always watching. Do you even understand what ’retribution’ means?"
Listening to all this, Qin Hanyun’s eyes turned bloodshot.
’He knew his sister had suffered, but he never imagined it was this bad!’
’That entire family actually locked my sister up, just because she wanted to protect her own child?’
’Have they no humanity?!’
As the man turned his head, he happened to see the murderous intent in Qin Hanyun’s eyes. He trembled all over, suddenly feeling that if he stayed any longer, he might never be able to leave.
"Doctor Wen, stay out of my family’s business! I’ll let it slide today!"
The man ran off. He had originally planned to go to the inn, but then he remembered that this other man was staying in the room next to Chaochao’s mother. A shiver ran down his spine, and he bolted out of Wenxiang Street.
’I’ll wait for that man to leave, then I’ll come back for Chaochao’s mother.’
After the man ran off, Qin Hanyun’s emotions were still in turmoil.
Wen Ying didn’t say anything either, just checked on Chaochao’s mother’s condition. It was a bit strange.
"System, is it what I think it is?"
[Yes, Host.]
"And now?"
[It is her true self now. She will be back to normal when she wakes up.]
Qin Hanyun watched as Wen Ying examined his sister. Then he saw her sit down in a chair, take out a sheet of Yellow Paper, pull a ballpoint pen from her hair bun, and then... open her phone?
’It looked like she was searching for something.’
Two minutes later, Wen Ying drew what she had found in her search onto the Yellow Paper?
Then she placed the Yellow Paper on Chaochao’s mother’s body.
Qin Hanyun looked at the Yellow Paper. On it was a chibi-style figure. It was a drawing of...
’It looked a little familiar... from that blockbuster animated movie a while back... Nezha?’
"Doctor Wen, is that Nezha?"
"It’s cute, right? I just copied a picture I found online. I hear this animated movie is really popular."
’So what does drawing Nezha on talisman paper have to do with his sister?’
"Doctor Wen, what is this Nezha for?"
"To ward off evil spirits and misfortune. Very fitting, isn’t it?"
Looking at Doctor Wen, who was clearly proud and waiting for praise, Qin Hanyun nodded.
’It is... very fitting, I guess.’
’But what in the world does this have to do with my sister?’
Suddenly, a possibility seemed to dawn on Qin Hanyun—
