Don't Lie to Your Therapist—She Already Knows Your Fate
Chapter 206 - 204: Attacked by Squirrels?
Not everyone knew about the existence of household gods.
Due to regional differences, people in many faraway places had never heard of them. Those who didn’t enjoy fantasy novels were also naturally unaware of things like household gods, Fox Immortals, or Yellow Immortals.
Clearly, Song Jiayan was one of those people.
The chances were slim, but they had indeed run into someone like that.
Seeing that Song Jiayan genuinely had no idea, Xu Jiali sighed helplessly. "So there really are people who live under a rock. I thought you were just the quiet type, I didn’t realize you liked to stay cooped up in your own little world."
As Xu Jiali spoke, her tone shifted. "But this is a good thing. We don’t have to worry about you being two-faced, saying one thing and doing another, or stabbing us in the back."
Xu Jiali seemed quite pleased with this realization.
If you had to find a teammate on the show, someone like him would undoubtedly be reassuring. He wouldn’t be two-faced.
Song Jiayan’s face turned red again after Xu Jiali’s comment.
Wen Ying could also see that Song Jiayan was truly very shy.
Boys like him were sensitive and preferred to keep their thoughts to themselves, savoring them in solitude.
"If you’ve never heard of it, just forget it. Anyway, it’s pretty much like an animal that’s become a spirit. Maybe in people’s minds, it’s just a slightly classier version of a spirit animal."
Song Jiayan understood that explanation.
"Thank you, Jiali."
The little squirrel scrambled up from the ground, wanting to run. But it glanced in Little White’s direction, seeming a bit intimidated and too scared to flee.
But after looking back and forth a few times and getting no reaction from Little White, it decided to just go for it. With a WHOOSH, it scurried up a tree and ran off.
Song Jiayan still felt a little nervous, trailing behind Wen Ying and Xu Jiali.
Little White was no longer nestled in Doctor Wen’s arms. Instead, it was darting back and forth between the trees, looking completely at ease.
But it always stayed within their line of sight.
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE.
Suddenly, a dense rustling sound reached their ears from one side of the woods.
It sounded as if a large group of animals was passing through.
"Doctor Wen..."
"I hear it. Don’t be afraid."
Xu Jiali was also getting flustered. This commotion didn’t sound like something one or even a few animals could make.
Xu Jiali couldn’t help but look at Little White. Little White shot up a tall tree and disappeared from sight in a few moments.
A short while later, the RUSTLING grew even louder, now accompanied by frantic SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK sounds.
"Doctor Wen, they’re not fighting, are they?"
Song Jiayan’s face was a little pale.
"No, no. At most, it’s a lesson being taught," Xu Jiali said with a smile.
She seemed to be getting more and more used to the situation with Little White.
Then, there was a moment of silence.
Wen Ying walked toward the source of the sound. Xu Jiali followed, and Song Jiayan had no choice but to follow as well.
They were surrounded by trees of varying heights, many of which Song Jiayan didn’t recognize. Lost in his worried thoughts, he would jump in fright whenever a branch brushed against him.
But right now, his mind clearly wasn’t on the trees.
"It’s over, it’s over! We’re surrounded!" Song Jiayan’s voice was on the verge of tears, but he didn’t actually cry.
Hearing Song Jiayan, Xu Jiali looked around. Indeed, they were surrounded!
All around them was a dense crowd of animals. There must have been at least a hundred of them, right?
Squirrels of all sizes were staring at them with eerie, glowing eyes.
Xu Jiali’s expression changed instantly. "Sister Yingying, did Little White... lose?"
Being stared at by all those eerie eyes was truly terrifying.
Xu Jiali was about to cry too.
She’d thought Song Jiayan was too timid before, but it turned out she wasn’t much better. *Sniffle sniffle*.
Only Wen Ying’s expression remained largely unchanged.
"I didn’t expect to find so many different types of squirrels here." Looking at the pack, Wen Ying had already identified seven or eight different species.
There was even an endangered species of squirrel.
"See that one? The one with the long, slender body, short and wide skull, black back, and bushy tail that’s longer than its body? That’s a nationally protected animal, a black giant squirrel."
Wen Ying’s voice held a trace of excitement.
"Black giant squirrels mainly live in tropical rainforests and are usually solitary. I can’t believe we’re seeing one here, and with other squirrels too. What a spectacle."
Wen Ying was admiring the sight, but Xu Jiali and Song Jiayan were trembling with fear.
’A nationally protected animal?’
"Sister Yingying, is that really a protected animal? Among all these squirrels, it looks the least like a squirrel. It looks a bit strange." Xu Jiali’s voice trembled slightly. "Sister Yingying, what do we do with so many squirrels surrounding us? They’re not going to attack us, are they? That squirrel from before was like that; it almost attacked Song Jiayan."
Song Jiayan, his face pale as a sheet, nodded beside her.
He silently shuffled closer to Xu Jiali and Wen Ying.
The feeling these animals gave him was even more terrifying than when he found out Little White could talk.
Little White being able to talk meant it was some kind of Great Immortal, which meant it could understand human speech. That was a controllable factor.
But these squirrels weren’t like that.
’With so many squirrels, if every single one of them takes a bite out of me, will there be anything left but bones?’
Even his scalp began to tingle with fear.
Suddenly, three dark streaks of light shot toward the faces of Wen Ying, Xu Jiali, and Song Jiayan.
Just as Xu Jiali and Song Jiayan were stumbling and about to fall, the Doctor Wen they knew suddenly bent down, picked up a few small stones from the ground, and flung them haphazardly.
’It’s over, it’s over!’
Song Jiayan couldn’t help but despair.
But the next second, Wen Ying reached out and stuck a sheet of talisman paper on each of them. The two leaned against a nearby tree and slowly closed their eyes.
ROAR!
The once cute and goofy Little White suddenly swelled in size, and behind it, an ethereal projection about ten feet tall materialized.
The squirrels that had attacked Wen Ying’s group suddenly lost their balance, as if their center of gravity had vanished, and fell straight to the ground.
Little White’s ferocity, in that instant, seemed...
What followed was a one-sided beatdown.
Wen Ying didn’t even have to make a move. The squirrels, trembling, slowly began to retreat.
"Little White, don’t let them get away."
Just as Little White, who had calmed down, began to swell up again, five squirrels suddenly emerged from the pack. They didn’t look much different from the others, but their eyes were completely different.
All the other squirrels were retreating, but these five took a few steps forward.
Then came a series of SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK sounds.
Wen Ying’s expression turned cold, and Little White was naturally not Satisfied either.
In the process, it completely dominated these five squirrels, who seemed to be the leaders of the pack.
To put it simply, they were beaten into submission!
Wen Ying could sense that afterward, the squirrels’ attitude toward Little White became extremely cautious.
After all, almost all of them were injured.
The other squirrels just perched on the branches, looking small, pitiful, and helpless.
But Wen Ying knew this was all just an act!
The five squirrels gave Wen Ying a human-like bow. Then they rolled around on the ground a few times before looking up at Wen Ying pitifully.
Wen Ying was speechless.
