Don't Lie to Your Therapist—She Already Knows Your Fate
Chapter 78 - 76: The Story of the Spear and the Shield
The irregularly shaped stone was about the size of an egg, but it looked perfectly ordinary, similar to a river pebble.
But unlike a normal pebble, a shield had been drawn on it—or was it a shield?
Brother Zhang looked at it several times. It was, indeed, a shield—the very same kind he had seen in his elementary school textbook. "My spear is the sharpest in the world and can pierce anything. My shield is the strongest in the world, and nothing can break it."
This was the exact shield drawn in the textbook.
’What does Doctor Wen mean by this?’
Brother Zhang had his suspicions, but he couldn’t quite figure out Doctor Wen’s intentions. After all, he wasn’t a psychiatrist; he was just an ordinary police officer.
"Five thousand for this rock?" Cheng Cheng clearly possessed all the typical traits of a young woman: she was direct, spoke her mind, and lacked a certain subtlety.
The question slipped out before she could stop herself.
"Little Cheng, this is medicine prescribed by Doctor Wen. You can’t judge it by its appearance, you understand? Have you forgotten about the ’medicine’ our precinct bought last time?"
Cheng Cheng froze for a moment, recalling the incident. A male colleague she had a crush on had been on duty and was nearly stabbed.
But because he had the "medicine" he’d gotten from Doctor Wen, he came back unharmed.
’It was uncanny, though I don’t know if it was just a coincidence.’
"Brother Zhang, can we get reimbursed for this five thousand?"
Even though they were police officers, their salaries were limited. A few thousand yuan was a whole month’s pay. They weren’t much different from ordinary people—they didn’t have much money either.
Hearing this, Brother Zhang looked over at Doctor Wen.
Wen Ying couldn’t suppress a small smile. "The others don’t need one for now. This medicinal stone is for you, Mr. Zhang."
Brother Zhang immediately pulled out his phone to scan the payment code, but just as he did, he got a video call. He glanced at the screen and declined it.
The person on the other end called again immediately.
After he declined it a second time, he resignedly answered and walked into a corner. But Wen Ying and Cheng Cheng could still hear the voice on the other end. "Zhang! What are you spending all that money on? Don’t you know our son’s tutoring fees are due?"
"Honey, I’m at work. I’m out on a call with my colleagues."
"Fine. You can explain yourself when you get home tonight." The woman on the phone must have seen the background behind her husband; it didn’t look like a store, but more like a clinic. And, of course, she would have seen the uniform he was wearing.
Brother Zhang gave Wen Ying a sheepish look. "My wife handles the family finances."
"Your wife has the look of a very fortunate person. Your lives together will only get better."
"Let’s hope your auspicious words come true." Hearing Wen Ying’s words, Brother Zhang felt even more satisfied.
’After all, Wen Ying is no ordinary psychiatrist. When she speaks, it’s like hearing words of gold. Oh, wait, that’s not right—her words become reality!’
’It’s just that the thing is a bit big. I can’t string it up and wear it as a necklace.’ Brother Zhang was a little troubled. ’How am I supposed to carry this around?’
"Mr. Zhang, you can just keep the stone in your pocket. Think of it as a lighter."
Brother Zhang’s eyes lit up. "Doctor Wen, you don’t have to call me Mr. Zhang. It’s too distant. We know each other well enough now. Why don’t you just call me Brother Zhang?"
"Alright, Brother Zhang."
"There we go, Doctor Xiao Wen!"
Wen Ying was speechless. ’Adding "Xiao" before "Doctor" always makes you sound inexperienced.’
It’s a well-known fact that patients prefer to be seen by specialists or department heads. Doctors with those credentials are, for the most part, older. Therefore, when patients see an older doctor at the hospital, they feel a greater sense of security.
"Smoking is hazardous to your health. You really should quit, Brother Zhang."
"If I don’t quit, how much longer will I live?" Brother Zhang asked, the question popping out of nowhere. Even he seemed surprised he’d asked it.
"No more than ten years. Brother Zhang, you should make time to visit a hospital. You most likely have pulmonary nodules."
Brother Zhang tensed up immediately. ’Nodules are no joke. If they keep growing, will I end up as a terminal cancer patient?’
’I’m so lucky I met Doctor Wen!’
"Alright! I’ll quit right now! My daughter’s only in elementary school; I want to be there to see her get married."
As he said this, Brother Zhang pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and threw it straight into the trash can.
Cheng Cheng watched this all play out, feeling she had completely underestimated Doctor Wen’s influence over Brother Zhang. ’Does he really have pulmonary nodules?’
’Doctor Wen didn’t even examine him. She could tell just by looking?’
’Don’t tell me she has X-ray vision.’
After the two of them left the clinic, Cheng Cheng couldn’t hold back any longer and voiced her doubts. "Brother Zhang, do you just believe everything Doctor Wen says? Honestly, I don’t know how to describe it, but I didn’t see a single thing in that clinic related to medical treatment."
"Then what did you see?" Brother Zhang asked with a smile. ’Cheng Cheng is twenty years younger than me; she really hasn’t seen much of the world.’
"A beautiful owner!"
Even Cheng Cheng, who was a beauty herself, had to admit she was captivated by Wen Ying’s face.
Hearing Cheng Cheng’s answer, Brother Zhang chuckled. "You kids are still too young. You can’t just judge things by their surface, understand? You watch Doctor Wen’s livestreams every day, don’t you get that?"
Cheng Cheng’s face flushed a little. She lowered her voice and said, "Actually, I’ve only watched her stream twice. I just said that to try and build a better rapport with Doctor Wen."
Brother Zhang stopped in his tracks and looked at Cheng Cheng. "Little Cheng, you don’t need to do that next time, understand? With Doctor Wen’s abilities, she can figure out with perfect clarity whether you’ve watched or not. It’s better for us to be straightforward, you get me?"
"You’re a woman, so you’ll probably be the one interacting with Doctor Wen the most from now on. Just be honest with her. Otherwise, even if she doesn’t say anything, she’ll know we’re not being sincere."
"So, Brother Zhang, are you going to the hospital for a check-up?" Cheng Cheng was still curious. A check-up like that would cost at least a few hundred yuan.
’Considering Brother Zhang’s spending habits, it’s unlikely.’
"Of course! Doctor Wen said I have nodules. I know what you’re thinking, but this is a matter of life and death. I’m not some single guy with no one to answer to; I have parents and a child to think about. When it comes to something like this, I have to be responsible for my own health. Besides," he added, "I already spent the five thousand. I’ve got to show your sister-in-law where the money went."
Brother Zhang walked on ahead, chuckling to himself. Cheng Cheng followed behind him, lost in thought.
As a young person, she knew all about livestreams.
And it was precisely because she understood them that she believed most of them were fake. A livestream like that was just a more elaborately crafted script.
Every streamer was in it for the money. Some had standards they wouldn’t cross, but others had no standards at all.
After the last incident, she had to admit that Doctor Wen might have some genuine skills, but not skills on this level.
What she had witnessed today went beyond science.
It defied any logical explanation.
This couldn’t help but remind her of an incident that happened last year, back when she was still an intern.
