Chapter 84: Chapter 82: The Woeful Little Security Guard

[Is this the young security guard who’s been sharing stories about his job late at night? I’ve heard of him!]

[You’ll just end up a security guard when you’re old anyway, so you’re saying you skipped a twenty-year detour? That’s hilarious, hahaha!]

[I’m curious, how much do you make a month? Do you have a girlfriend? Can you even support a family?]

[Just a hopeless loser who’ll never amount to anything. Are you seriously trying to pat yourself on the back?]

The young security guard didn’t get angry. He sent a gift worth a thousand yuan and looked at Wen Ying. "Doctor Wen, could you take a look for me? What kind of psychological illness could a young guy like me, working as a security guard, possibly have?"

[Damn! He’s really keeping his cool! He’s not getting mad even after being mocked so much?]

[Usually, these pretentious types get put in their place by Doctor Wen until they’re completely obedient! Just you wait and see!]

"You seem healthy and easygoing. Currently, you don’t actually have any psychological problems. You’re just unwilling to hustle, and that’s no big deal."

"Thank you for vindicating me, Doctor Wen."

[What an idiot! Doctor Wen said *currently*! Don’t you get it? *Currently*! And you’re already rushing to thank her?]

"However, since you’ve come to my live stream, it must be fate. And that means you’re about to have a psychological problem."

[Did you really think you could escape the ’Patient Law’ of Doctor Wen’s stream? You’re too naive! So naive!]

The young security guard was dumbfounded. ’What psychological problem? I’m perfectly fine. I’m about to go home, wash up, get something to eat, and have a great night’s sleep. What kind of psychological problem could I possibly have?’

"How many years have you been taking this bus?"

"Over a year. Ever since I started working as a security guard, I’ve taken this bus home from work every day."

"When you take the bus home after work, are there usually other people on it besides you?"

"Of course! Otherwise, the city wouldn’t keep this bus route running so late at night. It’s because this area is a little special," the young security guard said with a smile, offering an explanation to the viewers.

"Then why are you the only one on it tonight?"

When Wen Ying asked that, the young security guard inexplicably shivered. He looked around the bus. He hadn’t been paying attention, too busy watching the stream.

Seeing the completely empty bus, the young security guard couldn’t help but call out, "Driver, how come no one else got on tonight?"

He was met with silence.

The young security guard asked again, but the driver still didn’t answer.

The young security guard got up from his seat and walked toward the front of the bus. When he saw the driver was still there, he breathed a sigh of relief and pointed his camera at him.

[Oh my god! You really scared me for a second! I thought the driver had disappeared!]

[I read a novel about the last bus on Route 13. It said that when you ride the bus late at night, you never know if you’re riding with people or ghosts. The atmosphere just now totally freaked me out!]

[I can feel the tension even through the screen! I wonder if the security guard was scared just now.]

An awkward smile plastered his face. He was a young man in his prime, full of vigorous energy, but when no one had answered him, he’d been genuinely terrified!

"Not gonna lie, everyone, I was scared too," he admitted. "Maybe the driver just isn’t a talker. Let’s not push it."

The young security guard returned to his seat. The moment he sat down, SCREECH.

The bus stopped. Outside, it was pitch black. The doors hissed open, and two people boarded. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

The camera feed was clear enough to make them out, but it wasn’t high-definition.

The new passengers appeared to be a couple. They didn’t look old, perhaps in their early thirties.

They were dressed in plain clothes. One after the other, they boarded and sat down directly behind the young security guard, never once glancing his way.

The young security guard was a little curious. He had been riding this bus for over a year, but this was the first time he’d ever seen this couple.

’Waiting for this bus so late at night, at this particular stop... it means they must know the route. And yet, they’re strangers.’

[Did I just see that? Their faces looked deathly pale. I must be seeing things, right? I’m getting inexplicably nervous!]

[Hey, commenter above, don’t scare me! I’m a total coward! If it weren’t for Doctor Wen’s stream, I’d be on a date with Zhou Gong’s daughter by now!]

[I saw it too! Something feels off about those two. Why haven’t they said a single word since they got on?]

The young security guard hadn’t been scared, but reading the comments made his body go rigid. He slowly, slowly turned his head to look behind him, forcing an ugly smile. "Do you two work nearby?"

Silence. And more silence.

Only two pairs of eyes stared at him. Each second felt like an eternity.

"I work nearby, too. I’ve been riding this bus for over a year, but this is my first time meeting new... friends."

The response was silence again, but this time, he was also met with a pair of utterly emotionless eyes.

The young security guard awkwardly turned back around, moving very slowly. His phone, however, lagged for a moment. And so, everyone in the stream saw the two people behind him suddenly flash their snow-white teeth in a grin.

It was a heart-stopping sight.

"Doctor Wen," the young security guard whispered to his phone, "nothing bad is going to happen to me, right?"

"It will."

Hearing that single word, the young security guard, despite being seated, jolted so violently that he nearly fell to the floor.

[Doctor Wen, stop scaring him! I think you’re going to scare him into a real breakdown!]

[Doctor Wen, those two behind him are people, right? Why won’t they talk? Why is the vibe so terrifying?]

"They’re not."

THUD!

Somehow, the young security guard’s body went sideways, and he fell right off his seat onto the floor.

He scrambled back to his feet and ran to a seat closer to the driver, seeking some sense of safety.

Wen Ying’s voice came through his phone. "Don’t panic. There shouldn’t be any danger to your life."

’Shouldn’t?’

The young security guard panicked even more. He yelled at the driver, "Driver, I want to get off!"

No one paid him any attention.

The bus kept moving. The young security guard forced himself not to look at the other two passengers, but he could feel two gazes locked onto him.

The staring was bad enough, but then a shadow began to stretch out before him, growing larger.

The pair had moved and sat down next to him again.

The young security guard was about to cry.

"Doctor Wen, what do I do?" The young security guard had never been this terrified in his life, but he’d read enough ghost stories as a kid to feel his life now hanging by a thread.

"Don’t panic, and don’t be afraid. Ask them if they need any help."

"I-I-I... I can’t!"

"With so many people in the stream backing you up, what is there to be afraid of? Relax. As a professional psychological counselor, I won’t let one of my patients get into trouble right in front of me."

He didn’t know if it was her words or the fact that over eighty thousand people were watching that gave him courage.

The young security guard decided to go for it.

Controlling his trembling, he turned around and once again forced a smile. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

After a few seconds of silence, the young security guard heard a hoarse voice say, "See... my... daughter."

"Where is your daughter?" the young security guard asked cautiously. His life, after all, could depend on the answer.

"See... my... daughter."

The thing that may or may not have been human simply repeated itself.

The young security guard wanted to cry but had no tears left.

’How am I supposed to know who your daughter is, or where she is?!’
