Dragon God: Reincarnated As the Last Dragon in a Cultivation World
Chapter 57: Better Communication
"Okay, but why would Dragons need that if they could easily overpower their prey?" Even though this was in the middle of the streets, she seemed incredibly curious.
"Habits, you know, like how some people tap their feet fast, or bite their nails. Or some people mimicked their parents and decided to just keep it since it felt more comfortable."
"Yeah, but how would you know? You aren’t a Dragon. They’re mindless. How would they be able to raise their kids?"
Caelus stared at the lady in sheer confusion. Along with that, he noticed another man, somewhere nearby, looking at the lady, only to look away, though even their surprise was evident. "...Are you serious?"
"Yeah, why wouldn’t I be? Taking care of kids requires you to have a mind after all, I mean, Dragons have a soul, but they don’t have a mind."
"So, you’re saying an entire species doesn’t require the way of communicating to the rest of their body on what to do. And they don’t need a mind to act on instincts?"
"I thought instincts came from your soul?"
"Why would that have instincts? Do you believe animals have souls?"
"Not really, other than maybe the Felines, which are intelligent enough for that, and some other animals have souls. But no other animal does."
"...So then why does literally every other animal have instincts?"
"Because the Lord made it that way-"
"And why not just make it simpler by making every animal have a mind and be able to do that?"
"Well, because he only made the beings that created the Dragons-"
"So why wouldn’t they copy the method that works?" his eyelid twitched at the fact that they’re still arguing. "Well, I mean, I guess this is the only thing they’ve learned, I can’t blame them. I’ll still argue, I love it."
[Wow, you really are taking your passion for philosophy seriously.]
"Of course." Caelus let out a sigh. "Okay, so you have four things which already show that you don’t understand how your body or any other creature’s body works. Why should you still not believe I’m a Dragon? Since I’m not Soul Formation, and I look humanoid. And... I can tell you that I’ve eaten Wyvern meat anyway."
"Yeah, that still doesn’t change anything. You could’ve just got some artifact that lets you do that, or one of the rifts has its core be able to do that. And you could just be a cannibal anyway."
"Alright, now are you able to tell me what evidence exists that would prove I’m a Dragon?"
"By being mindless, obviously. I mean, I guess by showing your so-called ’Dragon’ Form."
"Inside the city or... Outside of it?"
"Inside, nothing can go wrong, obviously."
"Alright, so if Dragons, in their dragon forms, eat Wyverns in their Wyvern forms, and I’m assuming this, you know what a Wyvern in its actual body looks like, right?"
"Indeed, they’re extremely big..." She paused. "Oh. Nevermind. I apologize for that." Her face flushed, she turned away. "I forgot they’re Giant AHHHH."
"It’s fine, I’m not going to hold that on you." Sighing once again. "Is that just my default reaction?
A sigh."
"Now, actually, tell me one other way, than just turning into a Dragon, would prove to you that I’m a Dragon."
"I mean, I guess-"
A presence nearby, standing upright, looking right at Caelus with a smile. "How you been, pretty boy? Finally went on a date again with Tellus, or have you been holding it off?"
"...Nyx, I’m going to have to leave. Now, I don’t want to deal with her shenanigans."
"A credible source could prove you one."
"...Oh, you have got to be kidding me. Of course, this is perfect timing. Was this you, Aphro?"
[Nope.]
"Are you lying?"
[Nuh uh. Not lying. I promise]
"... I’m just gonna trust you for right now."
"Ask this lady then, her name is Nyx, as in, a shortie who likes to come to someone who’s multitudes of times weaker than her for some reason."
"Ah, wait, NYX!?!?" Jumping back, the lady looked at her, almost confused at why she was here.
"Is she that famous that even normal people know her?"
"Well, of course, she’s the only person from the Golden Age of Cultivation left, also the only person who’s been able to traverse extremely far away from Gaia."
"Well, I don’t need to hear everything about her, considering I’ve already seen it, anyway, Nyx, am I a Dragon or not? Because she doesn’t believe me."
"A Dragon is obvious? You’re at Virtuoso and have a humanoid face. Dragons during the Golden Age sometimes did that, though it was much rarer than it is now. You also have scales, and your tail is visible, and you can hide your wings."
"...I completely forgot I had wings, I haven’t flown in a month." Blinking, his face flushed, though not hiding that he was embarrassed. "Well, is that enough proof? I’d like to go back to trying to find someone to talk to."
"That- Well, Fine, enough proof then." She was still unconvinced. Though it was easy to tell she was hiding the fact that she wasn’t convinced because of Nyx.
"Well, you can always talk to me, you know, Caelus. If you want some dating advice, I can give you some."
His expression returned to the neutral one, turning to look at her. "Tempting offer, I’ll think about it, but I meant talking with people my age and my strength level."
"Awhhh-, Well, fair enough, but what have you been doing recently? Relaxing after having to fight that much in a single month?"
"I’m trying to relax, but also talk with my friends." His eyes shifted to stare at the lady from earlier, though she was already gone. "But some people decide they’re more right about Dragons than anyone else."
"Like explaining your own techniques or facts about you, to you, and refusing to believe you know more about yourself or your techniques? Am I right?"
"Basically, yes, you could’ve said it with more clarity, though."
"It’d give enough information and context so people understand if they’re eavesdropping." A fake cough as she disappeared, reappearing behind him, poking his tail softly as it smacked into her instinctively.
"Fair enough." Unbothered, she continued poking his tail.
"How long are you going to be doing that?" He didn’t mind it as much. "She isn’t gonna retaliate and hit my tail over it, smacking her for touching it. She isn’t like the Yun Family."
"Maybe a few minutes, that’s about it."
Looking back ahead, he noticed Diana about to pass; she stopped, looking right at Caelus, who was at the side of the street where many people walked, and carriages passed. "Oh, you’re here-"
Noticing his tail swing around, she tilted her head to the side, seeing Nyx, though not recognizing her. "You bothered by it, or is it just normal?"
"I’m not bothered, it isn’t normal, but I know she won’t hit it over the fact that it reacted to being touched. On another note, what have you been doing? It’s been at least a week or two since I’ve talked to you."
"Just had to go to some more events with Mother. Though Vulcan just kept refusing and staying home, sleeping all day. Other than that, I’ve been training with Father." Her voice shifted from a casual tone to something almost formal.
"Formal when she starts talking about her parents? Weird-" Slowly blinking once, his head shifted, looking behind as Nyx had left. "Ah, normal parents don’t do that, I forgot she’s a Noble."
"Well, have you seen any growth while training, or are you stuck on something?" Curious, He went back to look at her, noticing the surroundings more and her alongside it; he concentrated too much on a single subject or object.
"I’m not, I’m just not finding the right opponents since Father has to hold back whenever he is training with me, I’ve barely grown. Why do you need to know?" Leaning to the side, her hand rested against the wooden frame of the building.
"Because I wanted to get to know you more, I haven’t talked with many people. And even then, I talk very little with the people I do know, so I thought I should talk more with you first." The smell of cooking meat suppressed his senses, so he didn’t get overwhelmed.
He could hear people speaking something from afar. And the distinct feeling of the ground, not too cold, but also not something impossible like real warmth. But something between that. "What are you going to do then?"
"Probably spar Minerva or Arjuna. Maybe even start sparring with Tellus so I can grow faster." A sigh as she looked at him, eyes half lidded, looking almost bored with his answers before.
"Hmmm, you know, you could try and make a technique. I guess applying what you know about how the world works would give a big jump for your cultivation?" Tilting his head, a little confused about why she was choosing sparring over techniques.
"Well, it depends on the complexity of the technique, but yes, I could do that, though it’d take about five techniques, which are at least of moderate difficulty to make. And one incredibly complex one to reach a stage and a half higher only."
"Sure, it’s only a stage higher, but you would be able to make more complex techniques after you get the hang of making one and refining it. I mean, that’s what I did with Rend, it started as just a cut which went to your weakest spot. Now it’s a lot different. Though I won’t elaborate further."
"Still don’t see how it would help me, I would get bored after testing it for maybe a day or two."
"Well, that’s kind of the point, it’s meant to be tedious so you can have fun using it after, no? Or, well, make it so you aren’t expected when people fight you. They’d assume the normal techniques people are taught, and maybe something more if someone else is known as a genius. Though I don’t doubt your intelligence, I haven’t heard anyone call you that."
"I- Ugh, okay, sure, I’m not that smart, well, I’m also lazy when it comes to training or anything which involves doing something over and over, it just feels tedious to me."
"Wow, very truthful, aren’t we? Well, I won’t complain, but this is our third time talking, so I feel like you should be a bit more conscious of what you tell me just in case." Stepping back once, Caelus watched a cat run by, though still continuing to speak with her. "Also, instead of needing to make something from nothing, you can use something you like."
Standing upright once more, she didn’t pay attention to the cat. The sound of a few carriages approaching alerted her. Turning to them, she couldn’t tell who was inside, but she knew it was a noble.
"Bored with me already? Well then, I’ll go." Disappearing, Caelus reappeared farther away, standing in the lower district as Tellus stopped right in her tracks, about to bump into him.
"Caelus." Her tone was calm, though her voice had the emotion of suppressed annoyance. The stone below her, which was just pebbles or small pieces that broke off from the ground, and the dirt shook as she waited for his answer.
"Hm?" Turning around, Caelus looked at her and put his hand in her hair; the scales made contact, holding a few strands. Noticing this, he moved his hand slowly so the hair wouldn’t be ripped out.
"You should really see where you’re teleporting. You appeared right in front of me while I relaxed." She left no note on him touching her hair; she wasn’t going to stop him when he was oblivious to what he did yet.
"Sorry-" Blinking once, he took a few seconds to realize. "I’m not careful with my teleportation, maybe I should make a way to distinguish people from everything else."
Turning to look at Tellus, he blinks once tilting his head. Looking at her he noticed she looked slightly different.
