Dual Worlds: I Have a Doomsday World
Chapter 80: Standing on the Moral High Ground
After walking for just a few minutes, the group entered the Mo University Campus.
Zombie corpses littered the ground all along the way.
The camp was short-staffed and hadn’t had time to clean them up yet, but starting tomorrow, dedicated teams would be assigned to the task.
This was to prevent the Mo University campus from filling with a foul stench as the weather warmed up.
Jiang Zhenlong and Yun Ming stared at their surroundings, their faces etched with shock.
Clearing out zombies on such a massive scale was something the official rescue teams currently lacked the resources to do.
The noise from gunfire was too great and could easily trigger a massive zombie horde.
For now, the rescue teams’ orders were simply to search for and rescue survivors while awaiting further instructions from headquarters.
After walking a bit farther, the Club Activity Building—now the main building of the Mo University Survivor Camp—came into view.
In the distance, a two-story-tall Mecha stood erect in front of the building.
The pupils of Jiang Zhenlong, Yun Ming, and Old Xu contracted violently.
A Mecha?
’Are we still in the country?’
’No, wait. Are we still on fucking Blue Star?’
’What is with these university students? Before the apocalypse, they all had that pure, foolish look. After the apocalypse, they’ve somehow managed to whip up a Mecha?’
’It’s not just for show, is it?’
Jiang Zhenlong subconsciously glanced at the Electromagnetic Firearms in the hands of Cheng Huai, Liu Wei, and the others.
The gun’s casing wasn’t metal, but 3D-printed plastic.
’Is this thing actually useful?’
Jiang Zhenlong suddenly realized that he hadn’t seen Cheng Huai or the others fire their weapons since they first met.
As he was pondering this, Cheng Huai spotted a Zombie shambling out of a dormitory building about a hundred meters away.
The zombies in the outdoor areas of Mo University had been mostly cleared, but the ones inside the buildings had not yet been dealt with.
He raised his hand, aimed, and fired.
The shot went wide. He had aimed for the head but hit the neck instead.
But perhaps by a stroke of luck, the bullet struck the spine, sending the Zombie’s entire head flying.
HISS...
Jiang Zhenlong no longer had any doubts.
Its power was in no way inferior to the firearms used by the rescue team.
Most importantly, it only produced a faint electrical hum and the slight whistle of the projectile cutting through the air.
In a doomsday setting, it was far more practical than a conventional firearm.
Jiang Zhenlong’s gaze shifted back to the distant Mecha.
’I bet that thing can actually move...’
Still in a daze, the three of them entered the Mo University Camp and were led up to the sixth floor.
...
Lin Qi had returned to the conference room a step ahead of them.
He opened the door just as Wang Ziru knocked.
"Boss, they’ve brought the rescue team members back. Do you want to see them?"
Wang Ziru surreptitiously observed Lin Qi’s expression. In his opinion, regardless of the camp’s future direction, meeting with the official rescue team was a must.
The broadcasts that aired periodically were proof that the official government structure still existed.
Even though the Mo University Camp was now on the right track, there was no need to antagonize the officials.
Of course, more importantly, compared to a camp born in the doomsday, the students of Mo University would obviously be more inclined to trust the government.
That was the result of receiving more than twelve years of education.
"I’ll see them."
Lin Qi had already made up his mind.
Cooperation. Equal cooperation.
He could even accept unequal cooperation.
As long as he could achieve his goal of acquiring Extraordinary Items, he could make appropriate concessions and treat it as humanitarian aid for the Doomsday World.
For this very reason, even before considering the establishment of the Mo University Camp, Lin Qi had first thought of joining forces with the rescue team.
Between establishing his own faction and leveraging an existing one, the latter was obviously more efficient.
After all, Lin Qi’s true foundation was never in the Doomsday World. If the Doomsday World were to lose its value to him in the future, he would no longer open the [Door] so frequently.
However, that day was still a long way off. Lin Qi walked out of the conference room and headed for the infirmary.
The infirmary was also on the sixth floor, located at the end of the hallway. It was run by students and professors from the medical school.
Thanks to the efforts of the resource collection teams, the infirmary even had an ECG monitor, ultrasound imaging equipment, and a CT scanner that had been placed on the first floor.
It also had every other kind of smaller instrument imaginable.
It was clear the university students were rather afraid of dying, having gone to great lengths to haul in the medical equipment. At the same time, one couldn’t help but marvel at how well-equipped the Mo University Campus infirmary was.
As soon as Lin Qi stepped into the infirmary, Wang Ziru began the introductions.
"Captain Jiang, hello. This is our camp’s founder, the developer of our various new-tech weapons and equipment, and the pioneer of the camp’s exploration into Extraordinary Power—Junior Lin Qi." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Wang Ziru piled on the titles, signifying Lin Qi’s absolute status within the camp.
"Student Lin Qi, hello. Thank you for your contributions to the survivors."
Jiang Zhenlong extended his hand, and Lin Qi reached out to shake it.
"We’re all students here. It’s what I should do," Lin Qi replied with a smile.
"Student Lin Qi, about our squad’s mission..." Jiang Zhenlong’s words came out awkwardly.
The official rescue team’s mission had failed, and now they needed help from a civilian force. Jiang Zhenlong felt he had lost a bit of face.
"I’m already aware of the situation inside Golden Impression. The Mo University Survivor Camp will give you its full support in clearing out Golden Impression."
Lin Qi had made this decision after careful consideration, and not just because of the anti-humanitarian acts that occurred inside Golden Impression.
Using aid to the rescue team as a starting point for contact would leave the official rescue team with a positive impression of the Mo University Survivor Camp.
Established by university students, has Party members in its field teams, possesses a humanitarian spirit, boasts off-the-charts technological strength...
When these keywords were combined, they would naturally lead the official rescue team to make the right choice.
Cooperation was the natural outcome.
Lin Qi didn’t even need to bring up the subject himself.
Just as Jiang Zhenlong had completely avoided mentioning anything about having the Mo University survivors relocate to the train station.
But it was also possible that Jiang Zhenlong felt he lacked the authority and needed to report back to the rescue team’s base first.
In any case, the current focus of discussion was on cracking down on the beastly behavior in this apocalyptic world.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Zhenlong said, "Student Lin Qi, can Old Xu stay here to recuperate for now? Yun Ming and I will return to base and request reinforcements."
Jiang Zhenlong was still thinking of going back for reinforcements, even though the Mo University Camp’s armed forces were more than powerful enough.
"Captain Jiang, the situation inside Golden Impression is urgent. Setting aside your captured team member, the other survivors in there are also in constant mortal danger."
"To be frank, I’ve already conducted a preliminary reconnaissance of the area. We must act as soon as possible. Even a half-day delay could result in several new victims."
"Out of humanitarian concern, even if you were to temporarily abandon the mission, our Mo University Camp would still act as quickly as possible to rescue the survivors inside."
Lin Qi had cleverly seized the moral high ground.
This tactic normally wouldn’t be very useful in the apocalypse, but unfortunately for them, Lin Qi was dealing with an official rescue team.
Their mission was to protect the lives and safety of the people.
