Eleven Nights to Ruin Me
Chapter 43: Nobody Wants You
Nina stood in the center of the dressing room as the servants all moved around her, dressing her up for the coronation.
Moreen had knocked on the doors almost immediately after she woke up. When she stepped out of the room, Rodrigo was gone, and she’d not seen him since.
She went back to her own quarters, the dress the Matriarch chose was hanging on the rack, shoes and jewelry lay beside it.
She washed up quickly and was bathed in sweet smelling oil and fragrance.
After which they did her makeup.
Next was her hair and dress, they’d been pinning her hair now for almost an hour, while Moreen fixed the back of her dress.
"Hold still My Lady," Moreen said from behind her, a pin between her teeth.
"I am holding still." she replied, tucking in her breath.
"You moved." Moreen said.
"I didn’t, I just breathed."
"Wait a moment, I’m almost done."
Nina pressed her lips together.
After a minute, Moreen stepped in front of her. "All done," Moreen said standing in front of her.
"Woah, you are so beautiful, my lady." she said, clasping her hand together.
Nina smiled as she glanced at herself in the mirror.
She looked ethereal.
The gold dress accentuated her figure, her blue eyes standing sharp against it.
She crossed to the mirror, as she stared at her reflection. Suddenly she stilled, her eyes lifting to the roots of her hair.
The black had begun to show.
Her gaze stayed there for a few seconds, then she straightened.
"Bring my shoes," she said.
No one replied.
Nina noticed the silence first. The movement in the room had stopped, all of it, the adjusting and the smoothing and the quiet back and forth between the girls, and she looked up and found them all looking at her.
Moreen came around from behind her and stopped.
"My Lady," she said.
Nina turned around.
Standing by the door was a woman who looked like her. She was dressed in a beautiful brown dress, her blonde hair pinned up beautifully.
The maids mouth hung open as they looked between them.
Nina’s eyes stared at her sister, her expression calm.
Sabrina stood in the doorway, a smile stretched her lips, as she looked her up to down, and then she walked in.
"Sister," she said. "How have you been?" She crossed the room to where Nina stood, a small chuckle leaving her lips. "It didn’t take me long to find here, the guards at the doors thought you were me, we must look very identical."
Nina looked at her hair again, and then at her dress.
Then she looked at Sabrina’s face.
And she smiled.
She turned to the room.
"Leave us," she said.
Nina’s eyes didn’t leave Sabrina’s face until the last maid pulled the door shut behind her.
There was complete silence in the room as they stared at each other.
Sabrina chuckled and walked past her to the mirror as she looked at herself, then she turned to Nina.
"The gold suits your skin," she said. "One would think you are actually the Luna."
Nina blinked, her head tilted to the side slowly.
"What did you say?"
Sabrina crossed the room and stopped in front of her. Close. The way she used to stand when she wanted Nina to feel small.
"I want to take my place back," she said.
The room was very quiet.
Nina stared at her. Her eyes holding hers, her expression blank as though she’d heard something foreign.
A long moment passed, and then a loud laugh escaped her lips. She laughed like Sabrina had said the funniest thing she had heard in years.
Sabrina stared at her, her face flat.
Nina stopped laughing almost immediately and shook her head.
"Did you hit your head somewhere?" she asked, searching Sabrina’s face with what looked like genuine concern.
Sabrina’s eyes narrowed as she closed the space between them. "Did you not hear me?"
Nina shook her head again.
"Did you think dyeing your hair would get you to become the Luna?"
She clicked her tongue, "Are you that dense, Sabrina?"
"How dare you." Sabrina’s voice came out high and sharp. "If the Alpha finds out who you are, what do you think he would do to you?"
Nina stopped. She blinked once, her expression giving nothing away.
Sabrina smiled.
"You cannot become the Luna, Nina. It’s not possible. The Pack will not allow it, and you would be punished for deceiving the Alpha and the entire pack, don’t you know that?"
Nina looked at her.
"So, what do you want," she asked.
Sabrina exhaled. Her eyes moved over Nina, and she folded her hands in front of her.
"Let’s switch back places," she said. "No one would notice. We look alike, no one is going to suspect anything. You go back to being Nina and I take my rightful place."
Nina stared at her.
"Why would I do that?" Her voice was soft. Almost curious.
Sabrina’s jaw set. "Because it was never yours to begin with. The Alpha chose me and not you, I just let you switch places. Now I want what is mine."
Nina chuckled. "You’ve always wanted what looked good on me."
She paused. ’’Same with Dante. Can you really not get a man of your own?’’
Sabrina’s face paled. ’’How dare you...’’
’’No one wants you Sabrina. That is why you keep trying to take what belongs to me, because you feel you can.’’ She laughed, her eyes looking at her from head to toe, and going back to her eyes. ’’It’s too late now, Sabrina. I am the Luna of Vermont Pack. Why would I want to go back to being a servant?"
Sabrina’s lips moved but no words came out.
Nina shook her head,
"I would just switch places because you asked? If you wanted to be the Luna so badly, you should have taken it when it was given to you."
There was a moment of silence.
"You had your chance," she said. "You gave it away, It’s not yours anymore."
Sabrina’s chest rose sharply.
"I’ll tell everyone that you are fake. Who will they believe? The real daughter or the fake half daughter who had even dyed her hair to be me?" She chuckled.
Nina tilted her chin. "Go on," she said.
Sabrina stared back at her, deadpanned.
Nina crossed to where she stood, placing her hand on her shoulder, she leaned to her ear.
"You see... I could have thought about your offer if my husband was ugly. But he is handsome. Like really really." she breathed, as though short of breath, "I cannot let anyone else have him." She raised her head and looked at Sabrina’s face which had lost all its color.
"I’m so sorry."
Sabrina’s breath came out in gasps. "You would regret this, Nina." she said.
Nina’s smile plastered on her face as she stared at her sister.
She tilted her head to one side and waved.
’’I’m late for my coronation, can you leave so I can finish dressing up.’’
A bitter laugh left Sabrina’s lips as she glared at Nina, then she turned to the doors and stormed out, shutting it tightly behind her.
Nina stood in the middle of the room for a long second, then the smile on her face died slowly.
She turned back to the mirror.
Her eyes found her own reflection and her eyes dropped to the empty spot on her ring finger.
’’Moreen,’’ she called.
The door opened and Moreen stepped inside.
’’Luna,’’ she replied.
’’Find my ring,’’
