Chapter 3543: Sacrifice and Soldiers

The Sky God clearly had no way to trust any of what Alex was talking about.

Godslayer had just been that much of an undying menace throughout the world that she could simply not believe that he had died. He certainly could not have been killed, as there was no way to kill him. So the fact that he might have died because he wanted to was a lot more logical.

However, logical though it may be, it wasn’t plausible in the Sky God’s mind. After all, she could see no reason why he would do such a thing.

"Do explain to me why you think Godslayer made the choice to die. He had been alive for many thousands of years on his own, and never had he ever decided to die. So why now?"

"Because he changed," Bladedance answered.

"Did he though?" the Sky God asked. "I find it hard to believe that just remembering who he was may have brought any sense of humanity to him. If that was possible, he should have killed himself a long time ago."

The Sky God’s concerns were valid, and they may have even been true if not for one critical fact that the Sky God wasn’t thinking about or simply wasn’t aware of.

"Godslayer, or the man you formally knew as Steelmind, had his mind clouded by Death and Darkness aura. From the day he was reborn as a Spirit, he had been constantly thinking about killing the gods that killed him. The degree of corruption he had been under was unimaginable."

"The corruption only increased or decreased during his time as Godslayer, never actually ever being cleansed. I was likely the very first one that managed to do it," Alex said.

The Sky God raised her eyebrows in surprise. "You cleansed Godslayer’s corruption?" she asked.

"I did. And ever since then he had been healing. As he recovered his strength again, this time he also recovered his memories. It all culminated in him revealing himself during the alchemy tournament."

"At that point, my sword’s spirit had been near death, and Godslayer protected it. During that process, however, he was fatally wounded. In the end, he decided to let himself die. It has been over two decades since his death."

The Sky God listened to Alex’s words with a somewhat stunned silence. It seemed that she found the truth hard to believe. And yet, at the same time, she could tell that it was the truth.

"If it was the Godslayer, then there is not a chance he would ever let himself die," the Sky God said. "But, if Steelmind’s soul had regained his consciousness at some point, then... yes. It makes sense."

"It was definitely the Artifact God at that point," Bladedance added. "I talked to him during his final days and he told me a few different things pertaining to his death. It should be relevant to you as well, so we can discuss that later. For now, just trust this information."

The Sky God nodded slowly as she leaned back and looked up toward the ceiling before closing her eyes. It was as though a Chapter for this world had ended, never to be opened again. A great trouble had been vanquished.

There was a small period of silence, during which no one spoke. Then, the Sky God’s face suddenly changed and she looked toward Hao Ya.

"You were attacked by one of my soldiers?" she suddenly asked.

Alex realized that she may have been communicating with Bladedance through their Divine sense. And since everyone else was so much weaker than them, not a single one had realized that a short conversation had even taken place.

"Y-yes, Grandmaster," Hao Ya quickly answered, sitting straight. "I was targeted by a small group of soldiers."

"And they were my soldiers?" she asked, not believing. "There is no reason why my soldiers should be harming someone that they so clearly have to protect. Even though you may be Yang Renye’s disciple and may not be looked upon favorably, you are still my grand-disciple. If you deserve any punishment, then it’s my punishment to give. They should not have overstepped their boundaries."

"Well, they did," Bladedance said with a shrug. "You should soon be receiving some more information from elsewhere that corroborates this, but... one of your soldiers attacked her in the middle of the street. If not for Alex here, things may have turned dire for this young lady."

The Sky God didn’t want to believe what she was hearing, but with so many people saying this, one of whom she trusted not to lie, she had to accept it.

"Do you remember their names?" the Sky God asked. "Or what they look like."

Hao Ya hesitated slightly. "I have very little information," she said in a meek voice. "I can tell you what they look like. I, however, don’t know if the few I saw was the total count of them or not."

"That’s fine," the Sky God said. "If you remember the person that attacked you, let me know what they look like. I will search my people and we should soon find the truth."

Hao Ya thought for a moment and nodded slowly. She brought out a talisman and handed it over. "I’ve already prepared the list."

Newheaven looked surprised when presented with the talisman. She had likely not expected Hao Ya to come in prepared for this. She took the talisman and looked through them.

While she wasn’t expecting much from the pictures at all, when she did see them, her eyes narrowed almost immediately.

"This is your list?" she asked.

Hao Ya nodded, unsure if she may have done something bad by mistake.

"What’s wrong, Newheaven?" Bladedance asked, realizing something.

"This is strange," the Sky God said, placing down the talisman. "I know exactly who these people are."

Bladedance grew curious. "Who are they?" she asked.

"They are indeed my soldiers," she said, pausing for a brief moment. "However, as of three years ago, all four of these people have already died."
