Eternal Emerald Dragon
Chapter 1768 - 1767 - Weapons of War?
The Fiend commanders were never fixed but the strongest rose up after those ahead were killed. After a century, they had begun to lay the groundwork for finally achieving their goal.
{You all have one more chance to be of use to me. If you finally end this gnat, those that succeed will be spared. I have no more need of you but if you fail, you will go back. You all know what that will entail.}
The dark voice terrified them. It was always there, never silent. He was no longer connected to the Divine Lands but his mark was with them forever.
There were no words but consuming and being consumed were horrifyingly different. They all remembered it clearly. No light, no sound, and no reprieve. They were made to watch as pieces of them were torn away into the darkness.
It was never coming back and one day, they would be wholly consumed!
With the hope of never going back, they willingly threw themselves at them. Even if they did not survive, if they succeeded, they would not go back!
The vast lifetime’s of memories and skills the various versions of themselves were now fused into a single life. It made them much more efficient and powerful.
Still, Lind Frey, the bane of their existence, never gave in. Even now, when it was clear they would wear down at some point, he refused to kneel and accept defeat.
The current commanders held a brief meeting as the deadly storm receded once more. It was one thing to know the flames were dangerous but it could be mitigated by distance or letting several thousand die to burn out, yet the thrice cursed liquid was like a contagion that needed only a drop to pass from one to the other!
Worse, it was entirely possible to go unnoticed if it was weak enough only to grow into a mass killer! The lithe man in charge of the next assault was about to charge in as moonlight broke through to reveal the blood drenched ground.
Normally, the massive sinuous emerald body of the dragon would await them. Instead, a very exhausted but smiling human was there.
He had his Mystery Weapon summoned but it looked very dim. A chill went down his spine but the others charged ahead. His forces were chomping at the bit but he held them back.
He felt it in his bones. So many times, his other selves had raced forward in the belief of the invincible power of his race, yet they had all died horrible ends. He knew he could die. He knew he could be wrong.
All that experience warned him now, the inviting moment was the end if he so much as set foot in that field.
The hordes flowed around his forces who seemed to consider following them but he forcefully used his Journeyman Tier power to hold them back. Lind Frey never moved, only smiled wider.
Suddenly, small black and silver metal discs stuck up out of the ground. They were nothing, easily crushed underfoot with how fragile they looked, but the Fiend’s eyes went wide.
[RUN!] He snapped into the air and his forces were shocked but knew he was as driven as them. Why would he run?
They trusted that instinct more than the desire to attack. They fled. It was the reason they would survive.
The racing hordes were nearly in a frenzy as Lind Frey seemed finally in their grasp when the small disks began to spin.
Liquid harmonic Qi shot out in all directions! There was no escape as it was moving in force! The range was insane as it shot in arcs over their heads.
It was worse than the storms as it was concentrated and directed. It moved and there was no escape as each disc overlapped!
They thought the edges would be safe but black clouds formed instantly! He was going all out right at the start!
There were 10 billion Fiends and all but 300,000 were the only survivors! Lind was actually able to see the Void Ocean clearly for the first time in a century.
He stood there as the surviving Fiends suddenly saw the ghost of his dragon form overlaid his human one.
[Want to try again?] The small artifacts were still there and he stood there smiling. How had he done it? It was just a few days and the materials needed to withstand such concentrated Qi were not in his possession.
They knew that for a fact. Otherwise, they would have faced far worse weapons in the century of war.
The surviving Fiend commander felt despair. He had wiped them out far more than ever before! Worse, he could not conceive of a way to counter the new attack!
"That is not a weapon of war! What is that?!" One of the survivors of the other forces screamed but Lind just shrugged.
[The land needed a little moisture to clean it up. It is the most efficient method.] His words made the Fiend commander narrow his aura on the once blood caked battlefield.
The blood was gone! Life was sprouting where once barren soil had stood!
Worse, he could feel the harmonic aura on each blade of grass!
His communication jade stone flared. It couldn’t be?!
[They have some strange new weapon! It wiped out over 90% of our forces!] The same repeated, usually close to a complete wipe out!
Even with fresh forces coming, they were now outnumbered! Lind Frey then raised his staff and the air distorted behind him.
A gigantic prismatic Ryu appeared with a golden Roc! His wives were there and they held harmonic weapons!
Before he could even think, he saw his remaining forces wiped out as the 2 beasts vanished. The speed was unreal!
Just 2 beasts wiped out hundreds of thousands of Fiends! That was not possible!
The commander only survived because he moved and ran. He flew as fast as he could to the flying artifacts.
They were kept just far enough not to be destroyed yet now they were all useless! Only he had survived on the southern front as far as he knew!
He was about to board when a golden staff smashed the cylindrical ship to the Void Ocean. It was swallowed up before he could react. A smiling monkey he only knew by reputation now floated in front of him.
"I am a bit tired, but not dead. Want to see who is faster?" The smiling monkey blurred before striking even more artifacts into the Void Ocean. He wanted to scream but a chill made him tear through space.
A prismatic Ryuu appeared and glared at him as her flames followed after him. Unlike Lind’s however, he did not fear hers. His aura flared and consumed her flames for all he was worth.
He was getting stronger but he did not relish it. He had to escape. He had to warn the forces coming of the danger!
They were too far away for communication jade stones to overcome the Void Ocean interference.
He dodged again as a golden Roc tried to use a glaive to kill him. The harmonic weapon made him tremble. It could absolutely kill him!
The number of ships were being decimated. He could not get to them or activate them in time. How could Lind Frey have prepared so perfectly?!
He was about to reach an artifact ship too far for the monkey to react when space distorted right in front of him.
A tanned young man with perfect jade skin appeared with a smile. He was still tired but his staff now shimmered with power.
"What is the rush? Have somewhere to be?" The Fiend commander could feel the rage venting in those words. The century of frustration was finally being purged.
"You don’t understand! He is here, in our heads! We are not free! We just want to live! We just want to be free to live!" Lind Frey paused and his face changed. The Fiend did not like it.
He wanted the rage, the hate, but not that! Anything but that! Why was he looking at him in pity?!
"You really believe the Bastard’s promise? Has he not shown you who he truly is? He broke the entire rules of Heaven and Earth that condemned the Celestials all those epochs ago." Lind’s words broke the Fiend commander. He nearly fell from the sky but a gentle aura caught him.
It did not hurt him. He looked up at Lind and a question suddenly popped into his head.
"Can you kill him? Truly, can you end him?" Lind looked down at him but he was no longer the vile enemy. The Fiend commander was pleading.
Lind knelt down in midair and looked at him as if he was transparent.
"I was allowed the chance to kill him. If you really have all those memories, have I ever been able to last this long?" The question made the Fiend commander smile at last. He spread his hands out in a placating gesture.
"Let the silence of the grave be my solemn hope you succeed, Lind Frey." Emerald light was the last thing he saw as the world faded but he was smiling. He did not want to go back and he sincerely hoped Lind Frey would end the Great One forever!
