Eternal Freedom's Ascension
Chapter 228: First Lesson
The day ended with another hour of training with the assistant instructors. Although tired, the students who had joined their respective study groups split up, following their group leaders to designated locations.
"Uh... uh... where are we going to be using?"
Charles asked nervously, his lips trembling as he followed behind Kaiser. Although he had gathered his courage and chose the most outstanding student as his tutor, he couldn’t suppress his nervousness.
"Where do you suggest?"
Kaiser asked casually without looking back.
Charles froze for a moment, then blurted out his thoughts. "The karaoke bar?"
The other two girls turned to him with peculiar looks.
Kaiser hummed in contemplation.
"Hm, a karaoke bar? Why would you say so?"
Ignoring the piercing and suspicious glares of the girls, Charles answered.
"Well, it is an enclosed space and we won’t have to worry about disturbance and noises."
Kaiser nodded, then said. "Alright. We’re going."
The three of them left the school building, heading to the karaoke bar in their uniforms. Mordica hadn’t joined them, just like she had said. She would only be attending on the last day.
"A quiet room please."
Although it was weird to have two boys and two girls in a room, the clerk’s of the karaoke bar didn’t react. After all, Awakened students should also relieve themselves of stress once in a while, right?
"Awwwn~ It has really been a while I’ve been in a karaoke bar like this."
Kiera said with a smile, gazing at the podium and the microphone with longing.
"Kaiser, can I sing, please?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She turned to him with puppy eyes, but Kaiser turned her down without hesitation.
"You’re here to study. Not sing."
Kiera clicked her tongue and sat down grumpily. "Tch, you’re insufferable."
Ysabella and Charles were surprised by their exchange, as the familiarity in their tone was unexpected.
Sly as always, Ysabella sat beside Kaiser and asked. "You too seem closer than I’m aware."
Her green eyes curved innocently, and she phrased her words like a casual observation.
Kiera’s face stiffened briefly, then she shook her head.
"W-well, it’s not bad to be friends with everyone, right?"
She looked back at Ysabella, suddenly more confident.
"Yeah. You said you wanted to be friends with everyone. That’s why you’re close even with someone like Kaiser, right?"
Ysabella also stiffened, realizing she had unconsciously sat beside Kaiser. Although there was some tension between them from the last time she kissed him, Kaiser hadn’t taken any action to expose her.
This made her slightly believe that he wouldn’t expose her secret.
Kaiser sensed the subtle tension between the two girls and clapped.
"Enough of that. Instead, have these."
He took out test questions he had prepared previously, then distributed them to the four of them.
"Attempt these questions within one hour. Your time starts now."
Kiera’s eyes widened. "Wait. Aren’t we sup—"
He cut her off with an empty gaze. "No talking. Complete the task."
The white-haired girl pouted and grumbled, but complied.
The three of them took out their writing materials and began attempting the questions Kaiser had given them.
In less than ten minutes, Kiera was already sweating with a frown.
’Damnit! What the hell are these questions? Why don’t I understand anything?’
Her expression crumbled into gloom, and her answering pace slowed to a crawl.
Charles was also facing a little difficulty. Although he was academically stronger than Kiera, even he was facing problems. He couldn’t help but smile bitterly, realizing the vast difference between himself and Kaiser.
’Really, I made a great decision choosing him.’
As for Ysabella, she was barely having any issues. Though, that changed when she reached the most dreadful subject any student had ever faced—Advanced Mathematics.
"Ugh."
A faint groan escaped her lips as her forehead creased while looking at the questions.
Kaiser observed the three of them silently, then closed his eyes to rest. It wasn’t exactly a nap, but an eye-shutter just to pass time.
Before he knew it, one hour had passed and his eyes snapped open.
The three students froze, not expecting him to wake up at that exact moment.
"Tch. This guy."
Kiera clicked her tongue, shooting him a mild glare as he collected her scripts.
He did the same with the others, then began marking. He only read their answers, immediately determining the right ones and the wrong ones.
In five minutes, he had marked them all and gave them grades.
He lifted his head to look at the three expectant students.
"Charles. 66 out of 100. Not bad." He said, passing the scripts to the chubby boy.
"Your weakest subjects are quite obvious. History, Biology, and Chemistry. We’ll be working on those three."
Seeing Charles nod, he turned to the blonde girl and handed her papers to her.
"Ysabella. 72 out of 100. Impressive." He started, "However, your obviously flaw is in advanced mathematics which you failed... woefully."
Ysabella’s usually bright smile froze, and she immediately checked her papers. She barely got anything right in that subject.
Kaiser didn’t bother comforting her.
He turned to Kiera, causing the girl to flinch. There was a moment of silence as he stared at her, then he shook his head.
"54 out of 100. Average." He sighed, passing the papers to her. "Your performance in most subjects are pretty average, but you can’t settle for average. Is that clear?"
The white-haired girl nodded with a sulking expression.
"Alright."
Kaiser stretched, yawning as he took out a textbook from his bag.
"We have less than an hour left. Let’s do something before we go."
The other three immediately got serious, and Kaiser began to tutor them on chemistry.
Time ticked slowly, but eventually, the one hour was completed.
"That’s all for today. We’ll be meeting again by tomorrow."
Placing the textbook into his bag, he zipped up and stood.
Kiera was about to stand too when Ysabella grabbed her hand.
"Why don’t we stay behind and sing some songs?"
She asked with a smile that made the white-haired girl pause.
"Alright."
She eventually agreed. Kaiser didn’t linger at all, leaving the room right after Charles.
As soon as they were both gone, the atmosphere in the room turned icy.
