Eternal Freedom's Ascension
Chapter 236: Train her (3)
The duo stood opposite each other, with Maya holding her scythe in her hand.
Kaiser, on the other hand, didn’t hold any weapon with him. Instead, he stood unarmed, ready to take her on.
"Come."
The instant he spoke, Maya moved and swung her weapon straight at his chest.
Kaiser skillfully dodged, while being shocked internally by how decisive she was.
’That’s a good trait.’
Then, he immediately counterattacked. While the weapon had gone wide, leaving her open, he closed the distance and delivered a hit to her left shoulder.
"Ugh."
The girl grunted and stumbled back. Kaiser immediately jumped back avoiding being hooked by the weapon from behind.
Again, he closed the distance and delivered a hit on her right shoulder.
"Control how far your weapon can go. If it strays from you too much, you’ll be exposed to danger."
Maya nodded, realizing his point, as he had just finished expressing his point.
"Again."
While he took casual steps back, Maya sprinted forward and attacked him.
Her deathly scythe sliced straight at him, but he could see that she had prepared her other hand to control the weapon in case it missed.
Naturally, it missed. Before the blade could slam into the ground, she caught the pole, keeping it steady.
"Good. Now, onto the next. React to your opponent’s speed."
Before he even finished speaking, Kaiser appeared by her side like a ghost.
Maya flinched, immediately wanting to swing her weapon at him.
However, he caught her elbow and stopped her movement completely, delivering a hit to her ribs.
The girl grunted again, wondering what strange technique he was using to hit her. Any time his fist connected, she would feel the pain flare, but soon it would be gone, leaving only faint aches.
"Avoid distractions."
Kaiser, still beside her, delivered another hit on the same spot, making the pain double.
Maya gasped and immediately backed away. He released her arm and let her go, carefully awaiting her next moves.
"Don’t be irrational simply because your opponent has the upper hand. Stay grounded."
He said to her, though it was probably unnecessary. Maya didn’t look like she was going to charge at him recklessly.
Dragging her blade on the ground, carefully circling him with predatory steps.
’Oh? She’s using intimidation? Not bad. Even a stronger foe would be tense and wary.’
However, he was quite relax, not even bothering to turn his head when she went around him.
Meanwhile, Maya’s brows were locked as her mind made rapid deductions.
’Even when I’m at his back like this, I have a feeling like he can still see me. What is going on?’
Seeing that she wasn’t acting, Kaiser turned to her. There was a white eight-spoked wheel in each of his eyes, rotating slowly and ominously.
"There are enemies who can perceive you regardless of where you are. Right now, I have no blindspot."
The pink-haired girl couldn’t believe it. "You can see in 360°?"
He nodded. "This trait of mine allows me to observe the world like I do not possess a body, only a pair of eyes that can see everything around them."
Maya would be lying if she said she wasn’t amazed. That meant this guy indeed had no blindspots.
Since trying to find one was useless, she directly attacked.
Stabbing her weapon straight at him like a knife, she was surprised when he effortlessly caught the blade between his palms.
"Sometimes, your enemies might try to take over your weapon. Never let go."
His words snapped her to action as she tightened her grip just a second before Kaiser pulled.
Seeing her tumble forward with the weapon, Kaiser whispered.
"A follow-up action."
As if realizing something, Maya immediately used the pole of her weapon as a lever, pressing on it and sending two kicks straight at Kaiser’s face.
Naturally, he wasn’t caught off guard. He released her blade, letting it fall to the ground, while he raised his arm to absorb her kicks.
Maya landed on the ground, stumbling, and immediately retrieved her weapon.
"Good. You’re learning. Now, can you react again?"
His question was completed behind her, stunning the girl.
She immediately wanted to turn around, but Kaiser grabbed her arms and kept her in place.
"You shouldn’t just think about facing towards your opponent. Sometimes, you can predict where they are and target that place."
Maya adapted immediately, shoving the pole of her weapon straight at his gut.
Kaiser released her and stepped out of the weapon’s range while she turned back.
However, he wasn’t there. He was right beside her again.
"Always be prepared to react to surprises."
Before she could attack, he grabbed her arm again, stopping her weapon completely.
Learning from her lesson earlier, she immediately jumped back to disengage, but found out she couldn’t.
Kaiser’s grip was steady and unshakeable. She could barely turn a few inches.
"Sometimes, it’s hard to let go of what you’ve caught. Isn’t it?"
He delivered three consecutive hits to her ribs, making the girl cry out in pain.
Then, he released her arm and grabbed her weapon.
Despite the pain she was still feeling, Maya tightened her grip on the weapon, not willing to let go at all.
"Good. You learn fast."
He finally paused the training, sizing her up with approval.
Maya was panting faintly, looking at him like he was something else.
"You really... are strong."
Kaiser nodded like it was a fact, his expression calm.
While she tried to catch her breath and rest, he began walking in circles around her without the intention to attack.
"The skills you displayed now are pretty average. However, your real uniqueness lies in your flexibility—which you didn’t use properly."
Maya turned to him but remained silent, letting him continue.
"Just now, your movements were textbook movement. Something you learnt from somewhere. However, I want you to build a combat style ’for’ and ’from’ yourself."
He stopped to face her. "I want you to use your flexibility well in our next training in five minutes. Don’t worry, I’ve already loosened all your stuff joints with those hits. You should be feeling better now."
Maya blinked and stretched her body.
That... was right!
