Chapter 81: Jack’s Revenge Begins

Jensen looked up at the sky. The sun was already out and the morning was slowly turning into early afternoon when they finally saw the town.

They had been unable to continue their journey all night like he usually did.

Instead they had spent the last night camping in their truck to allow the rest of the group rest after all not everyone had their insane stamina.

Once they reached the town entrance, Talia only had to show identification to the guards and they were all let in without trouble.

The trucks made their way to the mercenary centre where they all parked.

Jensen remained in the truck while Talia got down and went over to meet the three mercenaries who drove the other trucks.

Talia opened the truck’s backdoor and one Level 1 Thrall stepped out in its full armour and stood beside her.

Once all three men were in position, Talia walked in front of them with the Basic Herald following right behind her.

"Feel free to disperse while I handle the procurement of the supplies," Talia said as she looked at all three men.

"Yes, Lady Talia," all three men answered together.

"Be back by tomorrow morning...If you are not, your contract is void." Talia paused for a moment. "And remember the terms of your contract."

The men nodded.

"Good... You may leave."

Talia waved them off and walked back to her truck to meet Jensen, but when she glanced through the window, he was gone.

She sighed and shook her head. She headed toward the hovercraft park.

’Which one is it?’ Talia scanned the lot, looking for the hovercraft she had left behind. It did not take long to find it.

She got in and took off toward the Morvath Mansion.

Jack immediately broke off from the rest of the group but that was not weird since everyone went to do their own thing.

However unlike the others, he was not back in town for fun... He wanted his revenge and he had just the perfect group of people to meet first in mind.

Jack carefully made his way forward... Not into the adventurer hall itself, but toward the next building close by.

You see while the adventurer hall was a good location for adventurers to meet, it was not their most preferred location.

The pubs next door was.

And his first target was his previous adventurer group.

He knew where to find them. And he did.

All seven of them were in the pub drinking when Jack walked up to them.

The moment he approached, they all looked up at him and he heard an audible groan from at least four of them.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Jack waved it off. "But I have something for you."

"What?" the one who seemed to be the leader asked.

"This bastard almost got us wiped," one of the seven adventurers said angrily, ready to attack Jack on the spot damn the consequences.

"And I paid for it dearly... Did you forget that you all wiped me clean and left me with nothing?" Jack snapped back.

The table went silent. They had indeed done that, but not one of them thought it was enough for what he did to them.

But before they could snap back at him, Jack continued.

"But I know a way to repay you... And I hope I can be accepted back into the group."

Three of them snickered, but the leader just stared at him, thinking.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I knew you would understand," Jack nodded happily.

"Just speak so we can kick you out," another mercenary interrupted.

Jack fell silent for a short moment before he nodded.

He dragged a chair over and sat closer to them so he could whisper, thankfully the noise from the pub also helped him.

"I took a job in the forest... It was a search kind but I am still not certain what we were searching for."

"Then why are you here?" one of the men asked, growing impatient with Jack’s presence.

"I am not done yet... So far, we have found a lot of things, like grade 2 weapons, treasures, and other stuff."

He paused for effect... Seeing he had successful grasped their attention he continued.

"And we are allowed to keep it."

"Yeah... And I am the son of the immortal dragon." One adventurer joked.

*Hahahahaha*

The rest immediately burst into laughter as well and another joke soon followed.

"And I am married to a Phoenix."

*Hahahahahahaha*

The leader glanced at his men causing them to stop laughing.

One of the men raised a eyebrow as he asked the boss, "Don’t tell me you believe this bull shit?"

"Yeah like who gives those things for free?" Another followed.

The leader did not answer... He simply stared at them briefly and they all fell quiet.

He grunted before turning back to Jack, "You are allowed to keep it?"

"Yes," Jack said. "They do not seem to care much for it and

..."

"And that means whatever they are searching for is far more valuable," the leader completed, his eyes glinting.

"I think so too," Jack nodded. "This is why I came to meet you... I hope this information is enough for you to accept me back and I promise I will do anything to gain your forgiveness."

The leader nodded. "Anything we need to know? How strong are they?"

"Strong?" Jack laughed. "If they were strong, they would not have needed to recruit less than thirty weak people for such an important item. I mean they don’t even dare invite more. They just told us they are extending the mission and they will most likely extend it more if they do not find it."

"Where is this place?" the leader asked.

"I will lead you there," Jack answered immediately.

"No... You have to remain with them to not arouse suspicion so just draw us the map."

Jack frowned but before he could refute, the leader continued.

"Do not worry.... We are going to the same place and we will meet you there and I promise that once we confirm the truth, we will accept you back into the group."

Jack considered it for a few seconds then he nodded.

He asked for a piece of paper and drew a map using important landmarks.

"Just to be sure, you can follow us tomorrow. We will be leaving in the morning so all you have to do is follow the tire marks." Jack smiled as he handed the hand-drawn map over.

The leader took a glance at it before smiling. "Thank you."

"I guess I should leave now," Jack said as he slowly stood up.

"See you soon." The leader extended his hand for a handshake.

Jack’s smile widened as he grasped the hand and shook it.

"See you soon, guys." Jack smiled before walking out.

Watching Jack go, the mercenaries turned to their boss.

"You do not honestly believe him, right?"

"Believe him?" The leader chuckled. "I am surprised that vengeful bastard has not done something against us yet."

The mercenaries sighed in relief. Jack was indeed vengeful and they had been expecting him to do something, but nothing had happened until now.

This could be it.

"That bastard is most likely trying to set a trap for us," one of the mercenaries muttered.

"I cannot believe we let him leave with his life after what he did to us," another grumbled.

"Me too... I told you guys he would come for us, even though he is the one at fault," another said. "That bastard is very good at holding grudges."

"It is a trap... Definitely." Another added.

The leader nodded as he stood up. "But I do not believe it was all a lie... He would expect us to do research."

He paused for a moment thinking.

"I will speak to my friend in the guild and find out what I can."

He looked at his men.

"For now, just prepare."

(A.N.: Sorry guys the second update for today might be a little late because I have to go sleep early and wake up very early... I will complete it when I wake up.)
