Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Unexpected Reward

My library shift finally ended after what felt like the longest hour of my life.

Melissa had already left ten minutes before, bouncing out the doors without a single care in the world.

Sorting the last stack of spell books, my hands moved quickly to organise the returns.

Handing over the checkout ledger to Yvenne, my feet practically dragged across the floor.

But then the sudden panic set in.

The memory of my specific promise hit my brain.

’Kiara is waiting for me,’ my thoughts raced, a sweat forming on my forehead.

’A starving vampire is sitting in my dorm right now.’

Sprinting out of the library building, my boots pounded against the stone path.

Running straight back toward the elite hill took a lot of effort.

Shifting my belongings into the rankers’ lodge two days ago was a great move for comfort and luxury, but this steep run was brutal on tired legs.

Panting heavily, my lungs burning from the chill in the evening air, the grand front doors of the lodge finally came into view.

Pushing them open, my eyes scanned the wide, luxurious hall.

The expensive chandeliers cast a warm glow over the leather couches and polished tables. Kiara was lying flat on her back on the expensive rug near the centre of the room.

Her black hair was splayed out in a halo.

Thankfully, no one else was hanging around the common area.

The other top rankers must be resting in their private rooms or eating dinner.

"What are you doing down there?" Asking the question felt rather stupid, as if the answer was not obvious.

She sat up very slowly, looking like a corpse coming back to life.

Her pupils were fully dilated, filled with a deep black across her eyes.

Her pale face was still, making my stomach drop just a fraction.

’She looks like a predator right now,’ my mind warned, every survival instinct screaming at me to keep my distance.

"Come over here," she demanded, her voice dry.

She sent the rare medicine to my family just the next day after our quiet deal in the training hall.

I received the confirmation message this morning.

Since she held up her end of the bargain so fast, there was no use keeping her waiting any longer.

Taking a deep breath, I walked over to the soft rug.

My knees bent, and my body settled to sit right in front of her.

Kiara immediately leaned into my personal space.

Her fingers fumbled eagerly with the top buttons of my uniform shirt.

She pulled the fabric to the side, exposing my collarbone and the side of my neck to the air of the room.

"Is it really necessary to undress for this?" She felt somewhat pointless, but her hands were moving very fast.

"Yes," she murmured, her dark eyes locked onto my skin.

Her hands trailed lightly down my chest, then her fingers grazed my stomach muscles.

She traced the lines of my torso with fascination.

"Your physical condition is perfect," she whispered, leaning closer.

"Just do it quick," my voice strained, trying hard to ignore the weird tension building in the empty hall.

She stared intently at my neck.

Watching the blue veins and the steady pulse of my blood made her hard.

The loud sound of her gulping echoed clearly in my ears, highlighting how thirsty she really was.

Her face moved closer to my skin, her jaw opening wide as her sharp fangs extended fully from her gums.

Then, she plunged them right into my flesh.

"Gah. I said slowly," A sharp remark escaped.

She ignored my complaint and just drank eagerly.

The black in her pupils slowly started fading back to their normal colour as her shaking body twitched with relief.

Surprisingly, the bite did not hurt much at all.

There was an initial pinch, but the pain vanished fast.

Either she is being very considerate with her natural venom to numb the wound, or my body is just really tough to damage.

The sharp fangs slipped out of my neck for just a split second.

She leaned even closer, her breath brushing right against my ear.

"At least moan a little, will you?" she whispered playfully, a smirk returning to her lips.

’Is she out of her mind?’ My thoughts spiralled in annoyance.

’I am acting like a juice box for her, and she wants a performance?’

"Are you done yet?" My tone was entirely flat, refusing to play along with her weird fantasy.

"Just a few more seconds," she promised, sinking her teeth right back into the puncture wounds.

A wave of fatigue hit my limbs instantly.

Giving blood to a vampire is a very tiring process because they drain your raw mana along with the red blood cells.

It feels like water replacing the warmth in your veins.

The edges of the large room started to spin slightly, my head feeling light and fuzzy.

Keeping my posture upright required physical effort.

After twenty long seconds, she finally pulled back.

She wiped her mouth with the back of her pale hand, smiling brightly.

The colour had returned to her cheeks, making her look full of life again.

"You taste so good. Can I just buy you from your family?" she asked, tilting her head like an innocent child asking for a new toy.

"I am not for sale," my hands shook a little as my fingers worked clumsily to button my shirt back up.

My vision was definitely blurry, forcing me to blink away the dark spots forming at the edges of my sight.

"Same time next week?" she asked, her eyes full of hope.

"Next month," my answer was firm.

"Do you think my body makes new blood just by drinking tap water?"

"Tch. Fair deal, I guess. See you next time, Shane."

She jumped up from the floor with endless energy, skipping right out of the large hall like a happy kid who had just got her favourite candy.

Letting out a long sigh, I hit the sturdy leg of the leather couch.

Sitting there on the rug, my body felt drained, but my mind was sharp.

At the very least, having a powerful noble in my debt is a huge win for the future wars.

Keeping her fed keeps her loyal to our arrangement.

But then, something highly unexpected happened.
