Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind
Chapter 248 - 156: You Su’s Uniqueness (Part 3)
Ji Xueruo retorted, "Anyway, you didn’t fool me."
"That’s because I was only testing." The young girl seemed a bit disdainful.
"Testing? Testing what?"
"Testing if this blind man... is really that special." The little white fish stared intently at You Su, as if trying to discern something from him.
Ji Xueruo followed its gaze towards You Su. According to the little white fish, could it be that seeing through the illusion was all thanks to You Su?
You Su pointed a finger at himself, slightly bewildered.
"Kid, are you really blind?"
You Su nodded honestly.
"Interesting." The little white fish swam around curiously. "Now I know why I had this feeling that you could change everything here..."
"Why?" Ji Xueruo was more anxious than You Su.
"Because of his aura... He hasn’t seen this world, and from a young age, deep down he feels he doesn’t belong here, yet he actively integrates into this world... He is like a paradoxical human visitor, which causes him to always have a touch of clarity reminding him he doesn’t belong here, even in a dream. No one’s heart is more confused than his, and no one’s heart is more resolute. Even the pursuit of real illusions can’t mimic his uniqueness, which creates irreparable flaws in any dream he is part of. For example, those tentacles in the black pool, to others, it might feel as if they’re really cutting into flesh."
The little white fish fixed its eyes on You Su’s pupils, its voice rising slowly like Buddhist chants:
"Who... exactly are you? And where do you truly belong?"
You Su’s heart beat like a drum, and the little white fish’s voice was like that of a young girl, yet its experience and wisdom were on par with that of an ancient divine beast, able to see through his secrets to such depths.
Those fragmented memories that do not belong to this world, the heavy and ancient identity of the True Lord, his self-perception is chaotic. He feels that he is not of this world, yet also feels he is a native here. This conflicting mindset makes him a unique and special existence, unable to perfectly blend into either reality or dreams.
Who am I really? And where do I truly belong?
"My name is You Su, first disciple of the Mandarin Duck Sword Sect, second disciple of the Lotus Sword Venerable, and also a son-in-law of the Snake Race."
You Su provided his answer.
"Who acknowledged you as a son-in-law of the Snake Race?!"
Ji Xueruo instinctively refuted upon hearing this.
You Su blinked at her, as if asking why not?
"Alright." The little white fish swam around in place, as if these two were flirting and bickering. "Since I cannot see through the secrets you carry, I am not inclined to explore further. I only hope you can help me pull those deeply trapped in dreams out. My people desperately need saving, and if successful, I will fulfill any of your requests."
"Me too?"
Ji Xueruo was a bit surprised. If You Su is the special key to breaking through the illusion, what use would she be going in with him?
"Of course, he is the key, and you are the red thread tied to it. Miss Ji, do not let the key get lost."
Ji Xueruo found this analogy rather odd and reminded:
"Black thread, not red thread."
The little white fish gave her a sidelong glance, its small fish lips seemed to be smiling.
Suddenly the cave was lit up like daylight, and the water beast that had carried You Su twice reappeared. Its whole body resembled a giant worm, except the front mouthpiece looked like glowing algae.
"What exactly is it?"
You Su asked in wonder, surprised at how it could move so freely and silently through both water and earth, showing the miraculous nature of this water beast.
"Hiding water was nurtured by dragon bones that bred earth, and I nurtured it with my fish bones. It’s thanks to it that I’ve been able to hide in the Jade Ring Pool for so long."
The little white fish swam in front of the water beast, and the water beast happily split its mouthpiece into a ghastly meat flower, allowing the little white fish to dart inside with a whoosh.
"So let’s see... who is the true water god of Jade Ring Pool!"
Its voice was full of excitement, like a little girl standing on a small mound ready to jump down.
Ji Xueruo felt like she entered an illusion again. She saw a little girl with tiger-like head, in red clothes, with two hair buns sticking up like antennas. Her cheeks were rosy prints, and in the village, such girls always rode boys like chairs.
Suddenly, Ji Xueruo felt a surge of impulse, as if she too wanted to jump down from that mound.
Without further ado, she grabbed You Su, and they both leaped into the cavity of the water beast...
