Fated to my mate's step-brothers
Chapter 30
Brielle
"Do you know how to do anything? I still don’t understand why the alphas let you off the hook rather than feeding you off to the guards or their horses." Rose taunted as she snatched the brush I was holding.
She snarled, placing her hand on the portrait. "You have to be very careful, these portraits are art works worth more than your generation. You’ll be dead if a scratch is found on any of them."
I bowed softly without a word, watching as she wiped them exactly the way I was wiping before she snatched the brush.
"Here, try again and this time you better do it well, also, do not break any piece, this isn’t like the dishes you broke." She mocked and I nodded hastily, biting my lips.
I had never encountered anyone as cruel as Rose, she was equally a maid but she’s played herself so high, it feels like she’s a god.
She always has complaints to make, it was either not properly done or done too well that you need to redo everything.
She followed me around for almost every duty, goddess knew I’d give everything possible to make her stay away from me.
"When you’re done, the kitchen has dishes, you’ll do the dishes until you’re strong enough to carry plates." She mocked before walking away and I exhaled deeply, looking at the peace and quiet that followed.
Life at the pack house wasn’t all that bad, if Rose and the alphas were to be removed, it was no different from any menial job.
I couldn’t help but wonder how long I was going to serve here. Would it be for an eternity? Would I be able to buy my freedom? Considering how they refused to sell me off to Dylan after he offered a fortune, I needed no soothsayer to tell me that I was going to be here forever.
I sighed heavily, shaking my head as I continued cleaning. I was still busy when I heard little grunts coming from the staircase side.
It was from the third floor, making it known that one or both alphas were coming. I was filled with fear, unable to tell what they’d do to me today.
Without thinking, I pushed the first door I could find, rushing inside while pressing my back to the door, waiting patiently for him to leave.
A minute later, no sound came again, just to be very careful, I remained in the room for 4 more minutes, my eyes shut tightly while holding my thumping heart.
I pushed the door slowly and stepped out. I jumped in fright, ready to head back into the room and shut the door when I found him by the side, leaning back with his eyes shut.
I was about to retreat back when he grabbed my arm with one hand, I began to tremble as my legs went weak.
"Pl... Please..." I stammered, wishing he’d let go of me and walk out of the house, never to return again.
"How dare you hide from me." He snarled, his eyes turning red and I shook my head vigorously.
"P... Pleas..." I pleaded, that was the only thing that came to my mind. He pressed me to the wall, trapping me in between his huge palms which he placed on each side of my head.
"What? Are you terrified of my presence that you now hide? Am I that scary?" He demanded and I couldn’t deduce what he was trying to say.
I heard stories about how they loved to instill fear in others and make them nobody before them. How they wanted all wolves cowering in fear before them.
Was he furious that I hid? Wasn’t this what they had always wanted, this was so strange and horrifying.
"Goddess why me?" This was the only question that plagued my mind. Why was my life going terrible with each passing moment? Rather than progress, why was I retrogressing?
"I’ll make sure you never..."
"Alpha... There’s an urgent meeting you need to attend." Nikolai walked inside, his expression filled with slight worry and Alpha Ryker prowled at me for a moment before he stepped back, walking out without glancing at me.
I feel on the ground, breathing heavily while holding my chest. Nikolai’s presence was goddess sent.
Only the goddess knew the kind of hideous thing he’d have done to me today.
After getting a grip of myself, I headed to the kitchen where it felt like the spirits were high.
The maids were smiling and talking in groups. Although I had no one to talk to, I smiled at them as I walked past them, bowing my head slightly.
"I can’t believe we’re going into town today, I’ve missed days like this... I’m heading to the club where Nikolai visits, I can’t wait to see his handsome face." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Oh please, stop admiring someone you’ll never have. Nikolai is the beta and he’s so handsome, do you think he’d touch you even if you offered him money?" Another maid countered and I exhaled deeply.
Everything they said about Nikolai was true, he was handsome, compassionate and so dreamy... The thought of being around him made me shiver with joy.
I couldn’t explain it but a calm feeling slowly spread around my body at the thought of seeing him smile. I wanted to see how handsome he’d look with a smile.
"Gosh, you’re crazy, Brielle... remember that you’re nothing but a maid..." I scolded myself and Myla walked inside, making everywhere quiet.
"Brielle, the maids are heading into town today, here, take this money and spend it on anything you want. This is more like a monthly bonus which the alpha gives to the maids, you must return back to the house in time for tomorrow’s chores." She instructed and my eyes widened with a smile.
I nodded softly. "Don’t try to escape, they’ll find you." She warned and I nodded, smiling softly.
"Thank you so much..." I whispered, staring at the maids who had decided to visit the club Nikolai frequents, there was no harm in watching him from the sidelines.
