Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 225: Is It Janice?
"Oh."
He answered.
When Wanda said this, her intention was to get Chris to treat Janice better for the sake of his grandfather, but she found that he was not interested at all, so she said.
"Chris, you chose her. Even if you don’t remember her now, she is still your wife. Treat her well."
"Mom, I know."
After leaving the Allsons, Chris drove around with no destination in mind. He didn’t think that he had mistreated Janice, but everyone kept remind him Wanda. Daniel.
Even James was dropping hints.
However, no one knew the pain in his heart.
He had no memory of this woman at all. They all tell him how much he loved her.
But those were just their descriptions, not his own personal experience.
He couldn’t feel it.
Even if he had feelings for her now.
She was gone.
He had already been cuckolded and was even prepared to accept the child that wasn’t his.
But she gave up.
She didn’t love him as much.
And now it was him at the losing end.
The more Chris thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt. Strangely, his car stopped by the lakeside apartment.
There was a strange feeling about this place Why did he park the car here?
He looked out the window and his eyes fell on the tightly closed white door.
He suddenly felt a sense of familiarity.
"This place..."
It seemed a little familiar.
Had he been here before?
As he was wondering, the gate of the residential complex opened.
The security guard at the door walked towards him.
"Mr. Bateman, you haven’t been back here in a long while."
The security guard seemed to know him very well.
Chris was confused. "You... know me?"
The security guard was stunned, then nodded. "Of course, you’re a resident here."
The security guard still remembered when Chris moved in, the property management held a welcome reception for him. However, he didn’t attend the reception and it became an internal party.
Chris frowned as he sized him up. Why did he have no recollection of him?
He opened the door and got out, looking at everything in front of him blankly.
Did he really live here?
Then, when he thought about it, perhaps it was because he had lost his memories of that period of time. He walked into the building.
He found the place familiar, as if he had been there before.
But he couldn’t remember when he had been there.
Instinctively, he entered the elevator and pressed a particular floor number. He walked out of the elevator with an uneasy feeling.
He looked as the elevator door slowly closed behind him and his chest got tight for no reason.
He looked around. There were two apartments on each level. He glanced at the doors on the left and right, and then walked to the door on the left without hesitation.
He stopped at the entrance and blankly stared at the door. Suddenly, he felt a little lost. Why did he come here?
Where was this?
For a moment, he felt dizzy.
"Are you looking for Ms. Gladwell?"
Suddenly, a woman’s voice came from behind.
He looked back blankly.
The other party was clearly stunned when she saw him.
"She... went out. Call her."
After saying that, the woman rushed back to her apartment across the hallway.
Chris was stunned for a moment before he came back to his senses.
Ms. Gladwell?
Was it Janice Gladwell?
Just as he was thinking, the elevator door suddenly opened.
A familiar figure walked out, carrying a bag.
...
If it wasn’t Janice Gladwell, who else could it be?
He stared at the familiar figure coming out of the elevator and was instantly shocked.
It was her!
But why and how did he find this place?
Janice came out of the elevator with a lot of bags. They were too many to carry at once. After taking everything out of the elevator, she was tired and sweaty. She arranged everything at the entrance of the elevator and patted her face dry. As she dug into her purse for the key, she looked up and saw Chris standing at the door.
She was taken aback and the key fell from her hand, making a loud noise.
"Why are you here?"
"I..."
Chris didn’t know how to explain to her.
He didn’t know why he suddenly came here.
He paused, bent down to pick up the key and handed it to her.
She hesitated before reaching out for it.
"I’ll get the bags."
Seeing that there were several large shopping bags next to her, Chris offered.
But she stopped him.
"No please, thank you. I’ve said all I have to say."
She walked around him and carried the bags to the door one at a time. She took out the key to open the door.
"You really don’t want to go back with me?"
Chris asked from behind her.
Her hand froze midway for a moment, then she said.
"Yes."
She said decisively, reaching out to turn the key to open the door, to carry the stuff in. As she tried to close the door, a big hand blocked and held it in place.
She froze with surprise before recovering and reacting. Just as she was about to use brute force to close the door, it occurred to her that she was not stronger than Chris.
She gave up, but still stood there, blocking the doorway.
"What are you planning to do?"
She asked cautiously.
He took a step forward to stand directly in front of her. "Go back with me."
He commanded.
It was exactly the same tone he used to speak in.
Janice was stunned out of her wits.
"I told you, it’s impossible. You should leave, or I’ll be forced to call the police."
After saying this, she turned her back to him.
The mere mention of the police caused his anger to surge.
"I said that I take responsibility for this child. What else do you want?!"
His arms hang at his sides, his fingers clenched into fists.
As if struck by lightning, she stood rooted to the spot, her entire demeanor exuding a restrained fury.
Finally, she couldn’t stand it anymore. She turned to him and said angrily. "I don’t need you to compromise."
She reached out and pushed him out unceremoniously, and closed the door with a bang.
She stood behind the door and closed her eyes in pain.
Sorry, honey. Splitting up is for both our good.
I don’t want you to struggle every day.
She closed her eyes and ignored the knocks on the door. She walked back in, took out the dog food she had bought and poured it into the bowl.
"Come on, Nino, you must be hungry. Have some food."
Nino was frightened by the knocking on the door. But seeing the delicious dog food, he came over and ate with excitement.
The knocking on the door continued as she reached out to stroke the fur on Nino’s back.
"You’ll understand someday."
She murmured.
He didn’t understand. No matter what, he couldn’t understand why he was willing to lose his dignity by relentlessly knocking on the door and persistently trying to get her back.
...
He did not know if it was because of his unwillingness to accept the rejection, or because he was angry about his shameless behavior.
In short, he just didn’t understand.
He didn’t stop until his knocks on the door attracted protests from the upper and lower floors.
He stared at the closed door in front of him and slowly clenched his fists.
"Very well. I promise I won’t come again."
He turned around and left with his eyes moist.
After that day, he never came to the house to look for her again. Janice lived in peace at home and her morning sickness got better.
She calculated, it had been three months. The crucial period, mentioned by the doctor, was over. She wondered if it was time to go back to work.
She was only three months pregnant, which meant that there was at least another seven months before giving birth.
If she continued to waste her time doing nothing for seven months, she might get bored to death.
So she was wondering if she could go back to work.
For one, she did not have any income or too much savings, it was inevitable that it will cost a lot of money to have children in the near future. She wanted to make some money before her belly became bigger.
Secondly, the job market was very competitive. Every year, there would be countless new graduates from the media academy. She was afraid that she would lose her competitive edge.
So, after thinking about it, she finally decided to return to work. Therefore, on this day, she specially made a trip to the TV station. "Janice, long time no see."
Her colleagues all looked at her with a huge magnitude of enthusiasm than usual, but it was hard to say how much of that was sincere.
After the previous incident of attempted suicide, everyone in the station knew that she was Chris’ wife.
Chris was a famous tech talent in Tomaville. Even the big shots in the industry were friendly with him.
Not only that, he was a major shareholder of the TV station.
He was someone who could directly determine their career fate.
Therefore, everyone wanted to take the opportunity to suck up to him.
Janice was naturally aware of this, but she didn’t care at all. In any case, it didn’t bother her when she made the decision.
She greeted everyone, especially Lucy.
The two talked for a while before she went to see Chief Gray.
"Chief, I want to come back to work."
In the office, Janice sat on the sofa sipping his newly imported black tea.
Hearing her words, Chief Gray’s heart sank and he thought, "The whole TV station belongs to your family. Do you need to ask for my permission if you want to come back?"
But instead, he said he welcomed her. "Of course, we welcome you back any time."
Hearing his words, Janice was a little embarrassed. After Chris’ sudden accident, she had not formally applied for annual leave from the TV station. According to regulations, she could have been fired. Unexpectedly, Chief Gray did not pursue the matter.
She said gratefully, "Thank you, but I may need to be transferred to an office job."
"Of course."
Chief Gray couldn’t ask for more. After all, she was Mrs. Bateman. Who would dare to instruct her to run around and do interviews?
"And... I’m pregnant now. I might have to go on maternity leave in a few months."
Janice said embarrassed.
Chief Gray almost choked himself on his tea.
"Janice, you still have to work when you are pregnant?"
She knew that getting pregnant and going back to work was awkward, not to mention that everyone knew her background.
She nodded her head flustered.
