Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 60: Christopher, Let’s Get A Divorce
She had thought that as long as Christopher was willing to admit his mistake, change his ways and correct his misdeeds, she would still be willing to continue their marriage.
After all, everyone made mistakes.
But she didn’t expect him to be so stubborn.
She felt angry just thinking about it.
"Miss? You haven’t told me your destination.", the taxi driver asked.
It was only then that Janice came back to the present.
Yes, where was she going?
Since she had already gotten into such a mess with Christopher, she definitely couldn’t go back to the apartment.
But if she didn’t go back to the apartment, where could she go?
Thinking of this, Janice felt a little annoyed.
When she got in the car, she had not thought about her destination.
However, she suddenly thought of a place.
Before long, the car stopped at an old alley.
Janice paid the fare and got out of the car.
Only when she pushed open the dusty door, did she feel relieved.
Fortunately, she did not get a refund on her rent. Otherwise, she would be sleeping on the street tonight.
Janice turned on the light and walked towards the bedroom.
Because no one had lived in the room for a long time, it was covered with dust. However, she was not in the mood to clean up. She just tidied up the bedroom and then laid down to rest.
The next day, Janice got up and found that her whole body was aching. It was strange. She had lived here for so long and was fine. Why this after just one night’s sleep?
She was a little speechless.
It seemed that she had been pampered spoilt.
She sighed helplessly, got up, and went to wash up. She found an old dress in the closet that she had not taken away and changed into it.
She walked to the intersection and met Auntie May, her matchmaker.
"Janice?"
"Auntie May?"
Janice was stunned for a moment before she recognized Auntie May.
"Janice, it’s so nice to see you. I’m about to call you."
"Call me?"
Janice was a little confused.
"At the end of this month, we will be holding some activities at our matchmaking agency. There’ll be many handsome young talents. Come join us."
Auntie May said enthusiastically.
Janice was stunned for a moment, and then said with some embarrassment, "Well...
Auntie May, I’m afraid it’s not appropriate. I’m married."
"Married?" Auntie May was stunned.
"Have you forgotten that you were the one who introduced me to my partner the last time?"
Janice explained.
"Last time?" Auntie May seemed to think of something and asked in confusion, "Didn’t you bail the last time?"
"Huh?" Janice was confused.
Auntie May said, "The young man called me and said that he didn’t get to see you. I thought you decided against it."
Upon hearing Auntie May’s words, Janice got a shock.
What was going on?
What did he mean that he didn’t get to see her?
Then... what’s with Christopher, whom she met that day?
Could she have made a mistake?
However, even if she had made a mistake, what about Christopher?
It couldn’t be that he made a mistake too.
With this question in mind, Janice arrived at the TV station, but she was not in the mood to work at all.
No, she had to figure it out.
Thinking of this, Janice dialed Christopher’s number.
"Where are you? I want to see you."
Half an hour later, in a cafe below the TV station, Janice met Christopher.
Christopher was both angry yet relieved when he saw Janice.
After having an argument with Janice last night, he went back to his villa. When he calmed down in the morning and returned to the apartment, he found that Janice had not returned home the whole night.
So where did she go last night?
Christopher was about to speak when Janice spoke first.
"Christopher Bateman, who... who exactly are you?"
...
This question came out of nowhere and caught Christopher by surprise.
Just as he was about to answer, Janice said, "I mean, you were not my blind date at all, so, who are you?"
This time, Christopher understood what Janice meant.
It turned out that she already knew.
In that case, he didn’t have to hide anymore.
He said, "You already know."
Hearing that he admitted it, Janice found it hard to believe.
Although she had guessed it before she saw him, she was still doubting herself.
But he had just admitted that it was true.
For a moment, she felt a little confused.
"So, you’ve been lying to me all this while?"
She couldn’t believe that she took this man mistakenly as her husband of more than a month.
Christopher looked at Janice and felt a little guilty that he had lied to her. "I... I..."
Before he could finish his words, Janice interrupted him. "Wait, let me try to work it out in my head."
It was so sudden that she couldn’t accept it at all.
Christopher sat there, staring at Janice’s stunned face.
The day had finally come, and he had expected it.
He had planned to tell her a little at a time. But now. things suddenly changed.
As a result, she could not accept it for a while.
Christopher thought, "I’ll let her digest things first."
However, as time went by, Janice sat there without saying a word. Christopher was a little uncertain. After all, with Janice’s character, any outcome was likely.
He felt that he needed to explain.
So Christopher said, "Janice, I lied to you about this. It’s my fault, but it doesn’t matter whether I was your blind date or not. What matters is that we are already married."
Christopher’s words pulled Janice back from her thoughts. She raised her head and
looked at him.
It was still that familiar face, but now she felt he was now a stranger. Even though she didn’t know him very well to begin with.
In addition to being unfamiliar, she also felt a trace of fear.
An unknown fear.
"No, it’s very important."
Janice shook her head, then looked at him and asked, "Christopher, let me ask you something. You told me last night that the car was yours, didn’t you?"
Christopher looked at her and nodded helplessly.
"So, you are not poor at all?" Janice stared at him and asked cautiously.
Christopher resigned himself to his fate when he saw her gaze, but he still nodded and admitted, "I’m indeed not poor."
Janice closed her eyes.
No pauper could afford such an expensive car.
"So, you have known Daniel Pattinson for a long time, haven’t you?"
"Yes, we’ve known each other for a long time."
Christopher told the truth.
"Do you know he invested in the Gladwell Group?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Christopher nodded. "I asked him to do it."
Janice’s gut had been right. No wonder she felt strange.
It turned out to be Christopher’s idea.
"What about that apartment?" Janice asked.
Christopher frowned and stared at her. Every question she asked made him feel guilty.
"It’s also under my name."
But Janice was no longer surprised.
After all, he had bought a car worth more than 1 million. That apartment was nothing.
However, she didn’t understand why he had to do this.
Why did he go all out to deceive her?
...
"Then tell me who you are now." She finally gathered up the courage to ask.
Christopher stared at her face, an ache flashing across his heart.
"Janice, it doesn’t matter who I am. What matters is that I am now your husband."
He reached out to hold her hand that had been clenched into a fist on the table, but she avoided his touch.
"No, it’s very important. It’s very important to me."
Janice repeated.
Christopher felt a little helpless. He clenched his fists and then loosened them. "Do you still remember the IT talent you wanted to interview last time?"
Upon hearing this, Janice looked up like a thunderbolt struck her.
She had speculated that Christopher’s family was very rich, but she didn’t expect him to be so prominent.
She had read his information when she was about to interview him.
Born to a family of business moguls, his mother was a famous socialite in Tomaville, while his father was on Forbes’ richest list.
And he himself had many academic honors and titles.
Therefore, this person was Christopher Bateman, not just a man who happens to share her husband’s name, but was in fact her husband himself.
It was no wonder that when she and Lucy went to the interview together, they were treated differently.
It turned out to be because of this.
Janice felt like she was suffocating.
It was as if a mountain had suddenly pinned her down, making it hard for her to breathe.
"Janice..."
Christopher felt that something was wrong with her. He reached out his hand, but before he could touch her, Janice said, "Don’t touch me!"
She seemed to be suppressing her emotions, and her voice was very low.
Christopher’s hand froze in the air and he retracted it.
"So, during this period, you were acting in front of me every day. Do you think it’s fun to fool me?"
"Janice, I didn’t want to make a fool of you. I..."
"Then why did you lie to me? Why?"
Janice’s eyes turned red unconsciously.
She trusted him so much that she desperately wanted him to live a good life. She was afraid that she would lose her job and couldn’t support him. She was also afraid that she would hurt his self-esteem because he didn’t have a job.
Every day when she talked to him, she was very careful and cautious, for fear of hurting his self-esteem.
But in the end, he was actually lying to her.
At this moment, Janice felt like a fool.
Christopher sat there, watching her tears flowing down. His heart ached for her.
"Janice, don’t cry. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have lied to you."
He got up and walked over. Ignoring her struggle, he reached out to hold her in his arms.
His hug only made Janice feel even more upset. She had never been fooled like this before.
"Let me go."
Finally, she broke free from his embrace.
A trace of resignation flashed across Christopher’s face as he returned to his seat.
However, before he could sit down, Janice spoke.
"Christopher, let’s get a divorce."
Hearing this, Christopher’s body paused and he stood with his body half-bent at the waist.
After a long while, he stiffened and sat down, staring at her in disbelief. "A divorce? Janice, do you know what you’re talking about?" Christopher’s eyes suddenly turned cold.
Janice nodded. "I know. Since it was a mistake from the beginning, we should correct it as soon as possible. It’s best for both of us."
She wiped away her tears. The sadness was gone, instead there was even a hint of coldness on her face.
Christopher’s heart skipped a beat. For some reason, a surge of anger rose in his heart.
"Janice Gladwell, do you really think so? Is it not because you can’t forget your old flame?"
