Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 80: Staying With Her All Day
If she was alone, she might not be able to achieve it. However, with Christopher’s help, she might be able to get to the desired result more easily.
However, she couldn’t bear to let Christopher interfere in this matter.
So she said, "Christopher, I..."
Without waiting for her to finish, Christopher said, "Janice, you must agree."
Janice had no choice but to nod her head under Christopher’s firm gaze.
Only then did Christopher relax.
After Janice agreed, he turned around and called Rob.
"Go and investigate the Delta accident, including all the details."
On the other side of the phone, Rob was stunned. "Mr. Bateman, the real investor of the Delta project is the Bateman family. Do you really want to investigate it?"
Christopher’s tone was firm. "Yes."
After the call, Christopher could not keep knotting his eyebrows.
Janice stayed at home, and Christopher stayed with her for the entire day.
During this period, Christopher went to work in the study, and Janice was surfing the net on her phone.
She wanted to see the public opinion caused by this incident, but found that it was not even trending at all.
It was strange.
"It’s impossible. I clearly saw the video and article being posted. Why is there no discussion at all? Was it removed?"
Just as Janice was feeling surprised, her phone rang. It was Lucy.
"Janice, I heard that you were injured in the interview last night and went to the hospital?"
Janice said, "I’ve been checked. I’m okay. It’s just a minor injury."
"That’s good. Take a good rest. I’ll hang up first."
On the roof of the TV station, Lucy put away her phone and carefully looked at Benjamin, who was standing in front of her.
"Director Taylor, I’ve asked her, she’s been to the hospital."
Hearing Lucy’s words, Benjamin was relieved. He looked at Lucy and said, "Thank you."
Lucy said shyly, "Director Taylor, you’re too polite."
Benjamin said a few more words of thanks before turning to leave.
However, Lucy felt a little strange.
"What’s wrong with Director Taylor? Why didn’t he call Janice but let me call her?"
What a strange couple.
Lucy couldn’t figure it out and went back to her seat.
After resting at home for two days, Janice’s injury had recovered a lot. With the permission of Christopher, she could not wait to go to the TV station.
At the door, she met Denise, who was about to leave.
Janice only wanted to say hello, but Denise stopped her.
"I heard that you went out for an interview and got injured? Are you feeling better?"
Janice was a little embarrassed. She had only suffered a little injury, but she did not expect that everyone knew about it.
She said, "It’s just a minor injury. It’s fine now."
Denise said, "That’s good. Do you have time for dinner tonight? I really have to thank you for the car incident last time."
Janice said hurriedly, "No, it’s really not necessary. It’s just a small thing. Besides, I may have to work overtime tonight."
Hearing her words, Denise didn’t force her. She only said, "In that case, let’s do it next time."
Janice nodded. Just as she was about to leave, Denise said, "I still hope you can consider the talk show."
Then she turned around and left.
Janice was stunned. However, she had to wait for the result of the Delta matter before she could consider it.
At noon, Janice received a call from Christopher.
He said that he would come to pick her up for dinner and tell her the result of the matter.
...
The two of them entered a Chinese restaurant. After sitting down, Janice couldn’t help saying.
"Christopher, you could have just told me on the phone. Won’t this waste your time?" Janice felt a little apologetic.
Christopher said indignantly, "I’m not as busy as you think. Besides, can’t I have lunch with you?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Janice smiled and said, "Of course."
"What do you want to eat?" Christopher handed over the menu.
Janice opened the menu and flipped through it. She felt a little embarrassed. "Why don’t you order? I’ll eat whatever you order." She closed the menu.
Christopher looked at her in resignation, he knew Janice did not like ordering.
So he simply ordered two dishes and a dessert.
After the waiter left, Janice asked, "You said you have the result. What is it?" Janice looked expectant and hopeful.
However, Christopher stared at her anxious face and frowned. "Don’t worry, let’s talk about it after we eat."
"Okay."
Although Janice was anxious, she could endure waiting for a while.
When the meal was served, she began to eat happily.
Christopher couldn’t help but smile as he watched her eating. "Eat slowly."
Janice smiled embarrassedly. "I’m used to it. I usually eat lunch in a hurry."
Christopher didn’t say anything else but handed her a wet towel.
Janice took it and wiped her mouth. Then she put down her cutlery and said, "I’ve finished eating. Can you tell me now?"
Christopher had no choice but to put down his tableware and said, "Delta has already found a solution. They have already communicated with the families of the deceased. I believe they will finalize the matter soon."
"That’s it?" Janice was stunned.
"Yes." Christopher nodded.
"There’s no insider story or dark secrets?" Janice asked.
Christopher’s brows furrowed. "This was just an accident. What dark secrets could there be?"
Janice was confused. "But if it’s really an accident, why would Delta avoid settling it? I don’t think it’s that simple."
Janice’s face was full of certainty.
Christopher couldn’t help frowning as he stared at her serious face.
Janice was upright and kind, which were her virtues.
But these qualities made her too naive, which was somewhat out of place for a reporter.
He said, "In large companies, there are many departments with many procedures involved, especially in such a big event where there is loss of human life. It takes time to investigate and pursue responsibility. Moreover, no company would be willing to publicize such negative news."
Janice understood what Christopher meant, but she wasn’t from an enterprise, so she naturally couldn’t agree with his standpoint.
She said, "Shouldn’t it be that since it’s a loss of life, they should react faster? I made an appointment with them for an interview, yet they did not appear. I can’t think of any other reason except for guilt."
After listening to Janice’s deductions, Christopher couldn’t help but frown.
He knew that Janice oversimplified the matter.
He said, "Sometimes, many things are not as simple as they seem. But if the result is good, why do you care about the process?"
Janice thought about it and agreed, although she felt that it was a bit of a pity that she did not find out the cause.
...
However, for those family members, the most realistic issue was the compensation.
Thinking of this, Janice said, "Although this was not the result I wanted, I still have to thank you."
"Well, let this matter rest then."
Christopher raised his eyebrows.
Janice nodded. "As long as the family members are satisfied, I consider this settled."
Hearing her words, Christopher was relieved, but he thought of something else.
"Have you ever thought about changing your job?"
Janice was stunned. "Why did you suddenly ask this?"
Christopher replied, "Nothing. I just feel that it’s tough to be a reporter. I don’t want you to be so tired all the time."
Hearing Christopher’s words, she smiled and said, "It’s not that bad. Besides, this was my major. If I do something else, I wouldn’t know where to start. Let’s talk about it later."
Hearing her words, Christopher didn’t force her anymore. He only reminded her, "Don’t work too hard."
Janice nodded.
After lunch, Christopher sent Janice back to the TV station and went back to the company.
As soon as he sat down, Rob came in.
"Mr. Bateman, the Chairman called."
Christopher frowned. "What’s the matter?"
"The Chairman wants you to make a trip home tonight." Rob said truthfully.
Christopher nodded. "Got it."
At five o’clock in the evening, Christopher went back to the Bateman’s family home.
As soon as he parked the car at the door, the housekeeper, nicknamed "Uncle
Charlie", came out to welcome him.
"Sir, you are back." Uncle Charlie had a smile on his face.
"Uncle Charlie."
Christopher nodded and looked inside the house.
Uncle Charlie said, "Sir is in the study."
Christopher nodded and walked towards the study.
In the study, Nathan Bateman was holding a magnifying glass and carefully admiring a painting on his table.
Christopher walked to the door and knocked.
"Please come in."
Nathan didn’t raise his head. His gaze lingered on the painting.
Christopher frowned and walked in. "You were looking for me?"
Hearing him, Nathan his head. There was a hint of dissatisfaction in his strict gaze. "You still obey some requests, at least."
There was reproach in his voice.
Christopher frowned. "Just say what you want."
Only then did Nathan slowly put down the magnifying glass. He carefully put away the painting on the table and walked up to Christopher. Nathan snorted and said, "There must be something here for you to return, right?
Christopher wasn’t in the mood for Nathan’s reprimanding. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave first."
As he spoke, he turned around and was about to leave.
"Stop!"
Nathan called out in a cold voice.
Christopher stopped. He turned around and waited for Nathan to continue.
Nathan’s eyes fell on his face and his tone was questioning. "I heard that you intervened in the Delta matter?"
Christopher replied, "That’s right."
Nathan wasn’t too surprised by his reply, however, he said, "Back then, you were extremely unwilling to come back to the Bateman business, but now, you’ve meddled in Delta’s matters. What are you planning?"
Christopher replied, "I don’t have any intentions. I simply don’t like it."
Nathan snorted. "You don’t like it? I think you’ve been used."
Nathan’s words were obviously hinting at something.
Christopher couldn’t be bothered to reply.
Nathan snorted and continued, "Don’t think that I don’t know what you’ve been up to since your return. Tell me, what’s going on with that little reporter?"
