Mu Xingfeng affectionately ruffled her small head and seriously said, "I use my charm to distract you, only because I don’t want you to leave me. Who asked my wife to value appearance so much?"

Mu Xingfeng sat next to An Ran, looking at her with burning eyes.

An Ran felt a bit embarrassed by his unabashed gaze, but she tilted her head and looked back at him, her eyes smiling, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Mu Xingfeng raised his hand and touched her rosy cheeks, which were red from just having woken up, "I just want to take a good look at you. My wife is so beautiful that I can never get enough. I’m afraid when I’m transferred to the Imperial City, I won’t be able to see this face, I won’t be able to eat or sleep well, thinking about whether to engrave this face in my mind or take you with me to the Imperial City."

An Ran rubbed against his big hand, still with eyes full of joy, "You can’t be so overbearing. You’re going to the Imperial City for your career, so what am I supposed to do? My studies aren’t finished yet, how can I give up halfway?"

"Yes," Mu Xingfeng sighed, his big hand changing direction to wrap around her shoulder, letting her lean in his arms, "I also tell myself not to be too selfish, to respect you, but there’s always a little devil inside of me, urging me to pack you up, carry you on my shoulder against your will, and take you back to the Imperial City, always keeping you by my side."

As An Ran listened to Mu Xingfeng’s words, the curve of her mouth widened.

"Mu Xingfeng, I think you’ve gone bad. Where did you learn to talk so smooth and slick?"

"In my whole life, no one has ever called me Mu Xingfeng smooth-talking, you’re the first one, wife, and I’m only like this to you. Do you like it?"

Before An Ran could answer, there was a "knock knock knock" at the door, breaking the tender mood.

An Ran quickly got off the bed, put on her shoes, and hurried into the other room, her face obviously flushed.

Mu Xingfeng chuckled softly and got up to open the door.

Outside was Liu Hu, who saluted when he saw Mu Xingfeng, then entered as Mu Xingfeng stepped aside.

"Boss, those rumors probably came from Captain Li’s family. We investigated several wives, and they all said they heard it from Sister-in-law Sun. But since this morning’s commotion, the wives understand how serious it is, and they’re afraid of offending people, so no one wants to come out and point fingers at Sister-in-law Sun."

So after leaving the office he skipped lunch and kept investigating the issue. It’s fine if they tried to smear him, but smearing the boss and the sister-in-law with dirt would make him flip Nan’an upside down to get to the bottom of it.

But even though it’s been investigated, without a wife willing to testify, without evidence, it might be tough to deal with.
