From Apocalypse Boss to Farmer: My Vegetables Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 338 - 323: Worse Than a Chicken
In the dim underground space, the two locked eyes, neither saying a word.
The atmosphere turned inexplicably strange.
Just then, Shen Yue coughed lightly into his fist. "What should we do with these people?" he asked lazily, looking at the people scattered across the floor.
Gu Xi followed his gaze. To lure out Yun Ye, she had earlier released the Superpower Seed. It throbbed like a heart, and its influence caused many people to collapse into unconsciousness.
And among these people, there was no telling how many were spies for other factions. She didn’t like killing, but leaving them alive would also be trouble.
Gu Xi thought for a moment. "Let the people from City A handle them," she said. Since they were here, they might as well be given something to do to keep them from getting bored and causing trouble.
Shen Yue considered it. ’That could work. The old man probably planted some of his people in the Liu Family’s team this time. Handing everyone over will spare me his nagging later. There are some things I can’t easily handle, being caught in the middle. This is a perfect chance to just dump it all on someone else.’
Qin Yi stood to the side, looking from one person to another. She had been affected by Yun Ye’s power and was the last to wake up, so she had missed most of the conversation and was understandably confused.
But Qin Yi didn’t ask any questions. Instead, she pointed at the people on the floor. "So, should we drag them out first?"
It wasn’t right to just leave them lying here. When the team from City A arrived, who knew what far-fetched conclusions they might jump to. It would just be more trouble.
Hearing this, Zhang Wen and the other Special Service Team members who had followed them inside prepared to move the people. ’This is manual labor; we can’t let the girls do it.’
But then, Gu Xi said...
"No need for all that trouble."
After she spoke, Gu Xi just waved her hand, and all the people on the floor instantly vanished into thin air.
Everyone jumped. Once the initial shock wore off, they all stared wide-eyed at Gu Xi.
Gu Xi stated calmly, "My space upgraded."
Space... upgraded...
What does that mean?
Everyone was stunned, not quite processing what she meant.
Gu Xi added nonchalantly, "It means... it can hold living things now."
A space that could hold living things was something they had never even heard of. But now... as Qi Xiang and the others finally understood, their eyes instantly lit up.
Gu Xi’s space can hold living things?!
"Does that mean we can bring Da Hong with us when we travel now?" Qi Xiang mused, rubbing his chin.
’Da Hong is so capable. It can look after the chicks and even find its own mushrooms... With Da Hong around, we’ll never have to worry about where to find the ingredients for chicken and mushroom stew when we’re on a long trip! And we’ll have all the eggs we can eat. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.’
Qi Xiang shot a pointed look at a certain someone.
’So in this household, we could do without a certain freeloader, but we could never lose Da Hong!’
’His Da Hong is simply the perfect chicken, an essential companion for both home and travel!’
Shen Yue didn’t like the way Qi Xiang was looking at him. He lazily leaned against a nearby floating Hibernation Chamber and tapped it. "Hey, some people should know when to stop. Our little team has always been harmonious. Let’s not start putting each other down."
’Besides,’ he thought, ’am I really less useful than a chicken?’
"Hmph." Qi Xiang rolled his eyes at him, his gaze shifting to the floating Hibernation Chambers. "So what do we do with these?"
"These things are useless in our hands," Shen Yue said, his fingertips slowly tracing the metal door of a Hibernation Chamber. "But they do make for some nice bargaining chips."
Seeing everyone look over, he lazily shrugged. "At the very least, my old man would be willing to pay a high price."
The others were all stunned when they heard this.
Shen Yue lazily raised an eyebrow at them. "Why is everyone looking at me like that?" ’Did I say something wrong?’
Everyone else: "..." ’Nothing’s wrong. It’s just... you truly are Mr. Shen’s fine, dutiful son.’
Shen Yue lowered his gaze slightly, then looked at Gu Xi.
With a wave of her hand, Gu Xi stored all the Hibernation Chambers in her space.
She glanced at the now-empty underground hall. "Let’s go." ’Things outside should be mostly settled by now. It’s time to meet them.’
The group returned to the surface.
On the way back to the camp, Gu Xi slowed her pace and fell to the back with Wei Heng.
Today, Wei Heng seemed exceptionally silent. Gu Xi wasn’t normally a curious person, but Wei Heng... was the first friend she made after she woke up.
Besides, over the past year or so, she had seen how well Wei Heng took care of her, and she had taken it to heart.
’Wei Heng is one of my real friends now.’
Gu Xi and Wei Heng walked side by side. The others saw this and, realizing the two probably had something to discuss, tactfully gave them some space. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Even the most curious, Qi Xiang and Qin Yi, were pulled away by Shen Yue.
The forest was quiet, filled only with the rustling of wind through the branches.
’Gu Xi wanted to ask, but honestly, she was terrible at this sort of thing. Back in her old squad, when situations like this arose, it was usually Li Ming and Ye Xin who handled them. Her position as captain... was earned purely through her Combat Power.’
Just then, Wei Heng suddenly stopped and turned his head to look at her.
"I’m fine," he said softly.
Gu Xi frowned slightly, thinking back to when she first met Wei Heng.
The pale, frail young man had been cheerful, warm, and considerate. Though he could be overly familiar at times, he had an excellent sense of boundaries and was never annoying... but lately, he had become so much quieter.
Seeing Gu Xi frown, Wei Heng suddenly smiled and ruffled her hair. "Don’t overthink things. I’m really fine." ’He just suddenly felt like he no longer understood his once-best friend. They had grown up together in the training camp, joined the Superpower Special Team together, and fought side-by-side for years—brothers-in-arms who would trust each other with their lives. But recently he had discovered that Ye Junhan had too many secrets.’
Wei Heng looked ahead, his gaze falling on Ye Junhan’s back, his expression complicated.
Gu Xi followed his gaze and fell silent for a moment. ’The bond between Wei Heng and Ye Junhan... it’s probably like the one I had with Xiao Yu and Qee Ran.’ She understood that kind of special connection.
And it was precisely because she understood that Gu Xi remained silent.
’...Some things weren’t for an outsider to get involved in.’
Just then, the roar of a helicopter suddenly sounded in the distance.
Wei Heng and Gu Xi looked at each other.
’They’re here.’
The timing was impeccable. Just as Gu Xi’s group emerged from the swamp, Tang You’s helicopter touched down.
When Tang You and his men rushed over, they saw the ground covered with unconscious people.
He quickly scanned the crowd but did not see Zhou Yue and Chen Ming.
Regarding Chen Ming, Zhou Yue had mentioned him briefly during a previous communication. Since he was just a minor character and not one of his own men, Tang You didn’t care whether Chen Ming lived or died.
But Zhou Yue’s status was special... it was more complicated than just being his trusted subordinate.
Tang You frowned slightly.
Before boarding the helicopter, he had been in constant contact with Zhou Yue and had also seen the situation in the underground hall through his personal terminal.
But right after his helicopter took off, for some unknown reason, the communication with Zhou Yue was suddenly cut off.
After that, neither Zhou Yue nor any of the men he had brought with him could be contacted.
In fact, Tang You already had a faint guess in his heart, but without seeing a body, he still held onto a sliver of vain hope.
But even if he had the courage of ten men, he wouldn’t dare ask Gu Xi directly.
But not asking wasn’t an option, either. After all, he had to give someone an explanation about what happened to Zhou Yue.
And, he also wanted to know what happened after the live feed was cut....
Just as Tang You was pondering how to bring it up, Yang Xi, who was standing to the side, suddenly stepped forward...
