From Apocalypse Boss to Farmer: My Vegetables Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 362 - 347: Time Can Forget Everything
Elsewhere, Gu Xi and Wei Heng were directing everyone to spray nutrient solution onto the fields. The past few days of continuous planting had taken a heavy toll on the soil, and it was time to replenish its nutrients.
Clearly, neither she nor Shen Yue planned to leave after just one harvest.
That was why none of the refugees Shen Yue had flown in to help a few days ago had left. So even though their territory had expanded significantly, they thankfully had enough labor and wouldn’t fall behind on the next planting.
The only difficult issue was the nutrient solution. This stuff was typically only used by superpowered individuals during frequent cultivation; ordinary pioneers hardly ever used it.
’Outside the safe zones, vast stretches of fertile wasteland are waiting to be reclaimed. Why would they bother spending the money?’
As a result, the major bases didn’t produce or store much of the land nutrient solution.
Fortunately, Farm 0101 was City A’s official number one farm, and its warehouses still had a decent stockpile. Gu Xi had someone bring it all over to deal with the emergency, but even so, there was still a shortfall.
It wasn’t a big problem, though. Shen Yue said he would handle it and could fill the gap in three days at most. That would be just in time to use after this wave of crops was planted, so it wouldn’t cause any delays.
After arranging the nutrient solution spraying, Wei Heng walked over to Gu Xi. His gaze swept over the bustling crowd around them as he lowered his voice. "Something’s not right."
Over the past few days, Shen Yue had flown in several batches of refugees from the city, but all the new arrivals were ordinary people. There was hardly a single superpowered individual among them.
But just three days ago, when Tang You went back to the city to recruit superpowered individuals for farming, the ones in the city had heard Gu Xi was here and were practically fighting tooth and nail for a chance to come.
Comparing the two situations... something was clearly wrong.
Gu Xi had thought of this as well.
"What did Shen Yue say?" she asked, looking down and fiddling with the small green sprout on her fingertip.
Wei Heng frowned slightly. "There’s trouble in the hard-hit areas. The Liu Family is stirring things up behind the scenes. He and Mr. Ye have been keeping an eye on it lately, so they probably can’t spare any attention for matters in the city..."
Although Shen Yue had a powerful background and had taken control of City A’s military affairs, this was ultimately someone else’s turf. He had very few people he could use, so he had to temporarily pull Ye Junhan and his Special Service Team over to help.
The Liu Family, on the other hand, had operated in City A for many years and had the support of the Gu Family. Their influence in both A City Base and the military was deeply entrenched. Having just taken over and also needing to manage disaster relief, Shen Yue was inevitably overwhelmed for a time, unable to cover all his bases.
For the past few days, he and Ye Junhan had been focused on sorting out military affairs, since the army was the key to maintaining stability. As a result, they had inevitably neglected to track the movements of the superpowered individuals among the populace.
Wei Heng’s original intention was to make a trip back to the city himself.
But Gu Xi thought for a moment, then looked up and said, "Mr. Zhou should still be at the farm, right?"
Hearing this, Wei Heng’s eyes lit up. ’That’s right! There’s still Mr. Zhou.’
Mr. Zhou had been active among the major scavenger teams for years. His network and connections within the community of civilian superpowered individuals were far beyond what Wei Heng, a relative newcomer to scavenging, could compare to.
With no time to lose, the two of them immediately went to find Mr. Zhou.
After hearing their reason for coming, Mr. Zhou immediately patted his chest and said, "This is nothing... You two wait here. I’ll go ask around. I’ll have an answer for you by tonight at the latest."
With that, Mr. Zhou ambled off into the crowd.
The superpowered individuals among the populace had their own information channels. And though Mr. Zhou looked fierce, he was a man of great integrity and was unusually popular within that community.
In less than two hours, Mr. Zhou returned with news.
"Wei, I’ve asked around about this for you..." He found Wei Heng, who then quickly pulled over Gu Xi. She had been crouching next to Qi Xiang watching some videos. Wei Heng shot a glare of displeasure at Qi Xiang and the others.
Startled by Wei Heng’s glare, the group lost interest in their videos and decided to follow along.
Mr. Zhou glanced at Wei Heng. Seeing him nod, he knew these people were trustworthy, so he lowered his voice and explained the situation:
"The reason no superpowered individuals have come these past few days is that someone spread a rumor. They said a treasure has appeared in the Death Swamp that can instantly allow a superpowered person’s ability to break through to the god-tier. So now, all the superpowered individuals near City A have run off to the Land of Death to hunt for treasure..."
Hearing this, Gu Xi, Wei Heng, and the others exchanged a look—someone had leaked the news about the Superpower Seed!
Qi Xiang had an idea. She pulled on Wei Heng, who was about to speak, and deliberately muttered under her breath nearby, "An ability instantly breaking through to god-tier? How could such a treasure exist in this world? Who would believe something so absurd?"
Mr. Zhou’s expression turned a little strange when he heard this.
Gu Xi saw his reaction and knew there was more to the story.
Sure enough, Mr. Zhou hesitated for a moment before explaining in a low voice to the group of young people, "Originally, no one believed it. But the person who spread the rumor swore up and down that the legendary God of the Apocalypse used that very treasure to attain their power..."
The God of the Apocalypse—the Blood-colored Asura.
When Mr. Zhou mentioned this, the expressions of Wei Heng and the few others who had a vague guess about Gu Xi’s identity all changed.
Gu Xi’s face, however, showed no reaction, though the finger poking the little green sprout paused for a fraction of a second.
Mr. Zhou looked from one person to the next. Seeing their strange expressions, he clearly thought they had misunderstood something.
He slapped his forehead. "Ah, I forgot. How would you young people nowadays know about the God of the Apocalypse? Back in the day..."
Mr. Zhou began to reminisce.
How dazzling was the God of the Apocalypse back then?
Even after so many years, Mr. Zhou’s face was flushed with excitement and his blood pumped as he spoke of the past!
Qi Xiang and Yang Chi exchanged a look. "So where did the Blood-colored Asura go after that? Why does almost no one know about her now?"
Mr. Zhou sighed. "After the battle with the Zombie Emperor, the Blood-colored Asura mysteriously disappeared. Some say she and the Zombie Emperor perished together. Others say that after the great war, she had seen through the vanity of the world and retired to a secluded life in the mountains with her lover. And some people say..."
Here, Mr. Zhou lowered his voice. "They say her accomplishments were so great they threatened her superiors, and she was... dealt with by the base’s high command. In short, during that time, rumors were flying everywhere as everyone guessed where she had gone. But then one day, all information about her on the forums suddenly vanished..."
Life in the apocalypse is hard. The death rate has always been high, not just for ordinary people, but for superpowered individuals as well.
Even after the zombies were no longer rampant, X Energy appeared out of nowhere. Eating that stuff all day, humanity’s average lifespan plummeted.
To put it bluntly, after the apocalypse began, the turnover of human generations became far too rapid.
Coupled with the authorities’ deliberate information blackout, how could the younger generation today possibly know about the Blood-colored Asura of the past?
Even among the old-timers from back then, how many are still alive today?
How difficult is survival in the apocalypse? These lucky few who are still alive today have already struggled so hard to make it this far. After enduring so many of life’s hardships, all they think about each day is how to survive, how to live a better life!
Who has the spare energy to pay attention to anyone else’s life?
And time makes one forget everything.
Even if that person was once a national hero, the faith and hope of an entire era!
...In the apocalypse, human nature is just that real, and that cruel.
Mr. Zhou sighed in conclusion. "It’s been too long..." If someone hadn’t suddenly brought up the God of the Apocalypse this time, even he would have forgotten she existed.
The apocalypse is not easy. It wears away not only humanity, but memory as well.
Wei Heng looked at Gu Xi with concealed worry.
Gu Xi’s expression was still calm. ’Blood-colored Asura, God of the Apocalypse... that was all in the past. I never thought of reclaiming that identity.’
Gu Xi didn’t yearn for her past glory and splendor, but for someone to suddenly bring up the Blood-colored Asura and connect her to the Superpower Seed... ’It’s obvious someone is trying to use this to stir up trouble.’
Gu Xi’s eyes narrowed slightly, and the small green sprout on her fingertip vanished.
’I might not care about the title of Blood-colored Asura, but I will absolutely not allow anyone to use that identity to cause mischief!’
