Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Unanimous Opposition

Chloe Sinclair nodded in agreement.

"Indeed. Photovoltaics, next-generation nuclear fission reactors... and if we succeed in developing nuclear fusion, it won’t just advance Zenthia’s technology. It will lead all of humanity into a new frontier."

Humanity shares a common destiny.

Time flew, and the situation was in flux.

Chloe Sinclair paused for a moment. "Of course the device needs to be modified, but we’ll be doing it by upgrading the existing Mark Device."

Building a new nuclear fusion device from scratch wouldn’t be an issue, but the cost is too high. The lab simply can’t afford it right now.

However, modifying it would present even more challenges.

Sure enough, as soon as Chloe Sinclair finished speaking, many people voiced their opposition.

"Modify it? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to modify a controllable nuclear fusion device? It’s one thing if you get hurt, but what if the Mark Device is destroyed?!"

In their minds, the device was more important than a person’s life.

Especially since this behemoth was one of only three controllable nuclear fusion devices in the entire world.

"I disagree."

"I disagree as well."

Inside the lab, hands went up one after another in opposition.

Standing in the center of the crowd, Chloe Sinclair remained completely unfazed. She wasn’t at all surprised by their resistance. In fact, she found herself understanding their perspective.

’Their research is already halfway complete, and then some stranger shows up, says their equipment is too basic, and forces them to shelve everything.’

’Anyone would find that hard to swallow.’

So, faced with the researchers’ vehement opposition, Chloe Sinclair said nothing, instead turning her gaze to Joel Quincy.

"Professor, I can upgrade the Mark Device to a much more advanced level."

Upon hearing this, Joel Quincy hesitated.

He was lost in thought for a long moment before Nathan Trenton stepped forward. "Junior Sister, how about this? Our experiment has stalled, and we’re unlikely to make much progress for a while anyway. Why don’t you go back and prepare a formal proposal? We can hold a meeting to review it. If we feel your plan is feasible, we can make a final decision then."

Nathan Trenton’s phrasing was diplomatic; he didn’t make any promises, but he gave Chloe Sinclair an opportunity while also placating the assembled researchers.

Chloe Sinclair knew this was the best compromise, so she looked to Joel Quincy for his opinion.

Joel Quincy nodded in agreement.

"Alright. I will come back with a satisfactory proposal for everyone."

After she finished speaking, Joel Quincy called Chloe Sinclair into his office.

Joel Quincy’s office was small, with several large cabinets lining one wall.

Chloe Sinclair glanced around casually and saw that the cabinets were filled with notebooks. Some were old, some were new, but all were arranged in neat rows.

Chloe Sinclair didn’t even have to guess; she knew they were Joel Quincy’s research notes from over the years. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Decades of work, filling three entire cabinets with notes.

Chloe Sinclair was filled with genuine admiration.

Joel Quincy saw Chloe Sinclair looking around his office and remained silent for a few seconds before asking, "Seen enough?"

Startled, Chloe Sinclair nodded honestly. "Yes."

"You’re honest, at least. Not like your second brother."

After he spoke, Joel Quincy paused. "What you said in the lab earlier... were you serious?"

Chloe Sinclair’s answer was firm. "Yes. I’ll get you the blueprints and the theoretical framework as soon as possible. Then you and the other senior researchers can make the final call. If you decide the plan isn’t viable, we’ll figure out another way."

As she spoke, her dark eyes were fixed forward, unblinking.

As Joel Quincy met her gaze, he was suddenly reminded of his younger self.

But modifying a nuclear fusion device was no small matter, so he pressed her again. "Are you certain you can do it? Modifying a controllable nuclear fusion device?"

"I am."

"And I guarantee that the upgraded device will be twenty years ahead of the current global standard."
