From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 183: The Filthy Rich Jasper Shaw
Nathan Trenton froze. He touched his nose and found bright red blood trickling from his nostrils.
She, however, didn’t seem surprised in the slightest. Instead, she pulled a handkerchief from her pocket.
After wiping away the blood, he saw Chloe Sinclair standing stock-still. Thinking he had scared her, he quickly said, "It’s an old ailment. Nothing to worry about."
Chloe Sinclair’s heart was heavy with complicated feelings, but she ultimately said nothing.
Like Joel Quincy, Nathan Trenton spent most of his time in the lab.
For someone working on nuclear experiments, radiation exposure was inevitable.
Just like Joel Quincy, he would get nosebleeds from time to time.
She had originally thought Nathan Trenton’s condition was better, but now she realized just how serious things were.
"Nathan, please be careful during your experiments."
Nathan Trenton, who was still cleaning the last traces of blood from his nose, froze at her words before nodding.
As Chloe Sinclair was seeing Nathan Trenton out, she spotted a familiar Bentley at the gate.
She paused for a moment. After saying goodbye to Nathan Trenton, she walked over to the Bentley and tapped on the window.
The next moment, Ian Winters’s head appeared. "Miss Chloe," he said, "the boss is in the back seat."
Chloe Sinclair smiled faintly. Just as she was about to speak, the rear passenger door suddenly swung open.
From the back seat, all she could see were Jasper Shaw’s long legs, which seemed to have nowhere to go in the cramped space. As the door opened, a blast of cold air from inside the car washed over her.
Chloe Sinclair couldn’t help but shiver.
"Ian, turn off the AC."
Hearing this, Ian quickly turned off the car’s air conditioning. Less than three seconds later, he was out of the car.
Chloe Sinclair felt that Jasper Shaw was acting strangely today, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on why.
"Am I disturbing you?"
A moment later, Jasper Shaw’s expression returned to normal. He glanced at Nathan Trenton’s retreating figure, a dark, inscrutable look flashing in his eyes.
And then, Chloe Sinclair finally understood why Jasper Shaw was being so strange today.
She raised an eyebrow and answered nonchalantly, "My senior came to see me about something."
Then, Chloe Sinclair asked in return, "And what can I do for you, Little Uncle?"
Chloe Sinclair put extra, heavy emphasis on the last two words.
For a second, Jasper Shaw’s breath hitched. He denied it almost without hesitation. "It’s not that."
He said it, then seemed to freeze, quickly trying to recover. "Congratulations on the success of your critical temperature experiment."
Chloe Sinclair didn’t call him out on it, just watched him with a knowing smile.
"Want to come see the progress on my experiment?"
Without a moment’s thought, Jasper Shaw instinctively agreed.
In the car, Jasper Shaw stared at a file in his hands. "I’ll have funds transferred to you every month," he said. "You can use the money however you see fit."
Chloe Sinclair was surprised. After all, Jasper Shaw’s initial investment had already been in the hundreds of millions, but the hundreds of trials she had run for the critical temperature experiment had all but used up the funds.
That was why Chloe Sinclair had resorted to asking her father for an allowance.
Now that Jasper was bringing it up, Chloe Sinclair thought about all the money she’d gone through and felt a flush of embarrassment. "Well... that initial investment of a few hundred million? I’ve already spent it all."
After she spoke, she snuck a glance at Jasper Shaw.
Jasper Shaw said, "So you’re short on money, then?"
Jasper Shaw was a businessman; he had no idea how much Chloe Sinclair’s experiment would actually cost, so when he’d first arranged the transfer, he had thrown in an extra three hundred million.
Hearing that the funds had already run out, he felt he hadn’t been nearly thorough enough in his planning.
"Ian, go back and get more funds from the finance department."
