Before stepping out of the room, Micah paused as he adjusted the collar of his suit. His fingers smoothed over the fabric as if fixing his suit might settle the unease in his chest since earlier. He exhaled quietly, then turned his head toward Clyde.

A flicker of hesitation crossed his face, cautious and guarded.

"Just tell me honestly," Micah said, his voice lower than usual, lacking its usual teasing edge. "You’re sure they won’t show up tonight, right?"

Clyde, who had already reached the door, paused mid-motion. His hand rested on the doorknob, fingers curled loosely around it as though he had frozen halfway through leaving.

Then Clyde answered, his tone steady, almost too natural. "Yeah," he said. "Don’t worry about it. They won’t come."

Micah did not relax. Instead, his brows furrowed slightly, and he took a step closer, his voice picking up a trace of tension.

"But what if something changes?" he pressed. "You know how things go. What if the plot just decides to drag them here anyway?" He let out a small, frustrated breath, running a hand through his hair. "They have been way too quiet lately. That is not normal. It is making me nervous."

Clyde remained still for a moment longer, his back still half-turned. When he finally spoke again, there was a subtle shift in his tone, something that did not quite sit right. "Well..." he started.

That single word was enough. Micah’s eyes narrowed instantly, his entire posture stiffening as realisation hit him like a spark catching dry grass. "What?" he demanded sharply. "Don’t tell me you’re hiding something from me again."

Clyde turned around fully this time, meeting Micah’s gaze. There was a brief pause, and then he let out a quiet sigh, the kind that came from knowing he had been caught with no easy way out.

"You were busy," Clyde said, his voice softer now. "You were dealing with exams, then all the engagement stuff... you already had enough on your plate." He rubbed the back of his neck lightly. "I didn’t want to add more stress. I didn’t want to ruin your mood by bringing them up."

Micah stared at him for a second, his jaw tightening. "You..." he started, clearly irritated, though the words stalled in his throat as frustration bubbled up.

Before he could continue, Clyde stepped forward quickly and reached out, gently but firmly taking both of Micah’s hands in his own. His grip was warm, grounding, and just a little apologetic.

"I’m sorry," Clyde said, his voice low and sincere. "I know I should’ve told you. I shouldn’t have kept it from you." His fingers tightened slightly around Micah’s. "But I was being selfish. The little time we had together... I didn’t want to spend it talking about those people. I didn’t want to ruin our time by bringing them up every time we were together."

Micah clicked his tongue in annoyance, though the sharpness in his expression softened just a fraction. "Fine," he muttered after a moment. "Then tell me now. What exactly happened to them?"

Clyde hesitated briefly, then nodded. "Instead of going to you or Darcy, they came to me," he explained. "One by one."

Micah raised an eyebrow slightly, intrigued despite himself."Oh?" he said. "That’s unexpected."

Clyde continued, his tone returning to something more neutral, though there was still an undercurrent of coldness when he spoke about them.

"Silas left the city," he said. "He used the excuse of attending a fellowship in his medical field. It was all arranged very neatly, very quickly. He is gone for now. The shares from SAFA Pharmaceutical," Clyde went on, "have already been transferred to Darcy’s name. Quietly. No public announcement, no noise. Everything was handled behind the scenes."

Micah’s brows lifted slightly at that.

"He really moved that fast?" he said, sounding faintly impressed despite himself.

Clyde nodded. "Archie and Leo came to me as well," he added. "They handed over contracts, fully signed and verified. Legally binding."

Micah tilted his head. "What kind of contracts?"

"The kind that puts their lives in Darcy’s hands," Clyde replied calmly. "Whenever Darcy wants, he can use them. He can demand money, resources... or more. They made it very clear they are willing to pay any price."

Micah let out a quiet whistle. "Good," he said.

Clyde’s lips curved slightly, though there was no real warmth in them.

"Archie has already gone back to training," he continued. "He is trying to build a new team from scratch. His goal is to win another championship and use that to promote Darcy’s gaming company."

Micah snorted lightly. "He is really trying to make himself useful, huh?"

"And Leo," Clyde added, "said something similar. He is focusing on making money, expanding his influence, and he plans to direct both his earnings and his public image toward supporting Darcy’s company."

Micah let out a short, amused breath. "They are really lining up to work for him now," he said. "That’s how it should be."

His fingers tapped lightly against the jade ring before he looked back at Clyde. "What about Aidan?" he asked.

At the mention of that name, Clyde’s expression cooled noticeably, his voice dropping slightly.

"He was in bad shape," Clyde said. "Bad enough to be hospitalised for a full month. But his company suppressed everything. Not a single piece of news leaked out."

Micah’s eyes narrowed. "Where is he now?" he asked. "Do you think he is going to show up tonight and cause trouble?"

Clyde shook his head. "No," he said. "He sent his lawyer instead."

Micah blinked. "His lawyer?"

Clyde nodded. "He gave me a letter," he explained. "In it, he said he knows Darcy would never accept money or anything directly from him. So he used a different approach. He said this was his way of letting Darcy vent some of his anger... basically forcing Darcy to face it head-on."

Micah snorted. "I knew it. He definitely had some kind of ulterior motive, dragging Darcy there."

"Yeah," Clyde agreed. "He also left behind a contract, just like the others. He said if Darcy ever changes his mind or needs anything, he can use it."

Micah crossed his arms, thinking. "And then?"

"He is planning to move to the capital," Clyde finished.

Micah shook his head, then looked back at Clyde, a hint of curiosity returning to his expression.

"But it is kind of funny," Micah added. "They all went to you instead of me. I thought for sure they would come bothering me again."

Clyde reached out, his hand lifting to gently brush against Micah’s cheek, his touch soft and lingering. "They are scared of you," he said simply.

Micah blinked, caught off guard. "Scared of me?" he repeated. "What did I even do?"

Clyde’s lips curved into a faint smile, his eyes carrying a hint of amusement. "You’ve got way more power over them than you think," he said. "You had the ability to change your destiny with Darcy." His gaze softened slightly. "Who knows what kind of crazy plan you’ll come up with next?"

Micah straightened immediately, puffing up with pride like a rooster that had just been praised. "Damn straight I could," he said smugly. "I am very capable, thank you."

Clyde let out a low chuckle, the sound warm and quiet, but carrying a teasing edge that made Micah’s expression shift.

Micah narrowed his eyes at him. "Wait," he said slowly. "Are you making fun of me right now?"

Clyde shook his head without hesitation. "No," he said. "I mean it."

Micah studied him for a second, still suspicious. "You better," he muttered.

Before he could say anything else, Clyde leaned in slightly and pressed a quick kiss against his lips, soft but deliberate.

"Mm," Clyde murmured, pulling back just enough to meet his eyes again. "My baby is scary strong."

Micah froze for half a second, a faint flutter rising in his chest that he refused to acknowledge. His ears warmed slightly, though he tried to hide it.

He huffed instead, turning away as he reached for the door."They are waiting," he said, his tone deliberately casual.

Without giving Clyde a chance to respond, he pulled the door open and stepped out quickly, almost as if he were escaping. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Clyde watched him go, a quiet smile lingering on his lips, his gaze soft and filled with unmistakable affection before he followed after him.
