From Wage Slave to Tycoon
Chapter 39: Dinner Invitation
Su Chen had just gotten into his car, ready to head back to Ocean View No. 1, when his phone rang.
’A private number?’
He glanced down, assumed it was some kind of telemarketing call, and hung up immediately.
’These telemarketers are really something else these days. They have all our personal information completely figured out!’
Su Chen absolutely despised these spam calls. Even with his phone’s anti-harassment features enabled, their calls still got through.
Just as he started the car, the phone rang again.
He took a look. It was the same number as before. Su Chen frowned, picked up his phone, and answered.
"Are you people serious? Can’t you take a hint? I hung up on you the first time, so why do you keep calling? I’m not interested in any of your services, thank you!"
Su Chen unleashed a furious rant, not letting the person on the other end get a single word in.
Just as he was about to hang up, he heard a very refined, feminine voice from the other end...
"Mr. Su, I apologize for the interruption. I’m a staff member from China Construction Bank in Shanghai. May I have a minute of your time?"
Hearing her introduction, Su Chen’s hand froze over the red hang-up button.
’Her voice is so pleasant, I might as well hear what she has to say.’
"Go on. What is it?"
"Mr. Su, our system indicates that you are one of our premium clients and qualify for a CCB Black Card. I was wondering if you might be free to come to our branch to set it up."
Su Chen was stunned for a moment, but then he quickly understood. After all, with that much money deposited in the bank, it would be a joke if the bank *hadn’t* noticed.
After a moment’s thought, Su Chen decided to go get the black card. At the very least, it was a status symbol.
He could play the part of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but Su Chen had no interest in that. Wasn’t it better to just crush the competition? Why pretend to be weak?
He was afraid that if he played the part for too long, he’d actually turn into a pig.
Let people mock you, only to show them up and slap them in the face later? Su Chen had no such masochistic hobbies.
It was just like when he went to the Richard Mille boutique. If Su Chen had been wearing a watch worth millions, would any salesperson have dared to look him up and down like that?
Now, his confidence was solid, and he could finally hold his head high.
He glanced at the Platinum Blue Starry Sky on his wrist. It wasn’t even 3:00 PM yet, so he had plenty of time.
"I’m free right now. Where are you located? I’ll head over."
"Mr. Su, our branch is on the first floor of the Jinmao Mansion in Lujiazui!"
Hearing the address, the corner of Su Chen’s mouth twitched. ’So it’s right next door!’
"Alright. I’m actually at the National Gold Center right now. I’ll be there in a bit."
"Excellent, Mr. Su! I’ll wait for you at the bank entrance!" Hearing that Su Chen was arriving shortly, her voice became noticeably more excited.
Jinmao Mansion was just across from the National Gold Mansion. Su Chen went around the roundabout and pulled his car directly into the temporary parking area in front of the CCB branch.
The moment he stepped out of his car, he spotted a sophisticated-looking woman, about five-foot-three, dressed in a sharp business suit. She was standing at the entrance, glancing left and right.
"Were you the one who just called me?" Su Chen asked, walking up to her.
The woman was taken aback for a second. She looked at Su Chen, mentally comparing him to the photo she had seen on her computer. He seemed a little different.
’He’s much more handsome than in the photo!’
"Mr. Su...?" she called out tentatively.
"Mm. Weren’t you the one who asked me to come get a black card?" Su Chen’s brow furrowed. ’She’s a bank employee; she must have seen my photo. How can she not recognize me now that we’re face-to-face?’
Su Chen quickly figured it out. He had gotten this CCB card a few years ago when he first came to Shanghai. He was just a kid back then; he’d changed a lot in a few years.
"My apologies, Mr. Su. I didn’t recognize you for a moment!" the woman apologized hurriedly.
The woman led Su Chen directly into the VIP lounge.
Through their conversation, Su Chen learned that the woman was the manager of the personal finance department, and her name was Liu Qing. To his surprise, Liu Qing was only twenty-nine years old.
’To become the head of the Personal Finance Department at her age... tsk, tsk. It’s unthinkable without some serious skills!’
The process for getting the black card was very simple. He filled out a few forms and provided a copy of his ID, and that was basically it. All that was left was to wait for the card to be made.
During the wait, Liu Qing’s eyes flickered. She glanced at Su Chen, who was lounging on the sofa, casually playing on his phone.
"Mr. Su, I was wondering if you might be free this evening? I’d like to treat you to dinner and introduce you to some of our bank’s wealth management products..."
Liu Qing hadn’t even finished her sentence when Su Chen cut her off with a wave of his hand.
"Manager Liu, there’s no need to introduce any wealth management products. I have my own investment channels. I appreciate the thought. As for dinner tonight..."
Su Chen paused, his gaze shifting to Liu Qing. He saw her puff out her large chest, showing off her "majestic snowy mountains."
"I’m sorry, Manager Liu, but I have plans tonight." Su Chen wasn’t some thirsty stray dog on the street, ready to take a bite out of anything he saw.
He had a great deal of self-control. If he didn’t, during his years as a delivery guy... Haozi and the others would have dragged him along to "do some poverty relief" long ago.
"If you’re not free tonight, Mr. Su, what about tomorrow?" Liu Qing asked, unwilling to give up.
"I’m busy for the foreseeable future," Su Chen refused bluntly.
With him putting it that way, Liu Qing would have to be clueless not to get the hint.
She opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. All she could do was sit there and quietly watch Su Chen play on his phone.
For a moment, the entire VIP lounge fell silent. Fortunately, a staff member soon broke the awkward atmosphere.
"Mr. Su, here is your black card. Please take it." Liu Qing, seemingly having forgotten the earlier awkwardness, smiled and handed the black card to Su Chen with both hands.
He took the card and examined it. It wasn’t much different from other cards... except the card itself was black, and the last eight digits of the card number were all the number 8.
Slipping the black card into his wallet, Su Chen stood up. "Thank you for your help, Manager Liu. I’ll be going now."
"Mr. Su, let me see you out!" Liu Qing quickly followed behind him.
Su Chen left the bank without the slightest hesitation, got into his Aston Martin, and stomped on the gas, leaving the CCB branch behind.
Furious, Liu Qing stomped her foot several times at the bank’s entrance.
"Seriously? The man has no taste at all. I was being so forward, and he wouldn’t even spare me a glance. Is this body not good enough for him or something?"
Liu Qing looked down at her own ample chest, perky butt, and long legs, and just couldn’t understand why Su Chen showed zero interest.
.......
Su Chen had just gotten home and flopped onto the sofa when the phone on the table started ringing.
"Damn, why are there so many calls today!"
Despite the complaint, Su Chen picked up the phone.
He glanced at the number. ’Hmm, this looks familiar.’
"Hello?"
"Mr. Su, I hope I’m not disturbing you!"
The moment the person spoke, Su Chen recognized who was calling.
"Ah, Brother Chao! No, not at all. Just lounging on the sofa. What’s up? Is the roadshow over?"
"Yeah, it just wrapped up. I have to fly to the Imperial Capital first thing tomorrow morning, and I remembered we talked about getting dinner together. Are you free tonight?" Deng Chao asked, a little apprehensively.
"I’m free! Just send me the address, and I’ll head over."
"Ahem... Mr. Su, there’s just one thing. A friend of mine insists on joining us. Is that...?"
"No problem. The more, the merrier!"
Su Chen wasn’t surprised by this. After all, it was only natural for Deng Chao to have a good friend with him while he was here for a roadshow.
