From Wage Slave to Tycoon
Chapter 41: First Meeting
"Young Master Wang!"
Su Chen was also a little shaken when he saw the newcomer. He never would have imagined... that the person who arrived would be this Eldest Young Master Wang.
Su Chen used to be quite envious of this young master. Driving luxury cars, living in a mansion, surrounded by a constantly changing entourage of internet-famous beauties—who wouldn’t be jealous of a life like that?
Young Master Wang walked into the room and saw Su Chen and the other two men sitting in the lounge area, drinking tea.
He was very familiar with Chen He and Deng Chao, but a flash of astonishment crossed his eyes when he saw Su Chen.
He’d originally assumed it was someone from the entertainment industry, but it turned out to be a stranger.
"He, who is this?" Young Master Wang asked, looking at Su Chen, his gaze lingering on Su Chen’s wrist for a moment.
"Young Master Wang, this is Mr. Su. He’s a friend of Old Deng!" Chen He quickly introduced.
Chen He and Young Master Wang were very good friends, so they were on casual terms and didn’t use formal titles, which would have seemed too distant.
Hearing this, Young Master Wang smiled and greeted Su Chen, "Hello. My name’s Wang."
"Hello. Su Chen."
Young Master Wang was quite curious about Su Chen. ’After all, a man who wears a watch worth several million must have some kind of background. It’s worth getting to know him and making a friend. Who knows, he might be useful one day, right?’
"It’s clear at a glance that Mr. Su is no ordinary person. May I ask where you work, Mr. Su?" Young Master Wang said as he sat down on the sofa, not forgetting to pour himself a cup of tea.
"Haha, ’high position’ is a bit of an overstatement. I’m just an idle fish!" Su Chen knew from his posture... that Young Master Wang was trying to sound him out.
Su Chen calmly accepted the formal address from Young Master Wang and didn’t say something like, "Just call me Su Chen."
’Maintaining a little mystery has its uses.’
Young Master Wang was also a bit surprised to hear this. He had expected Su Chen to introduce his family background and then try to deepen their connection through conversation.
But now it seemed that this Su Chen didn’t care about his background... or perhaps, even looked down on it?
’Looked down on it?’ The thought that popped into his head made Young Master Wang feel like he was going crazy. ’In all of Huaxia, how many people could possibly look down on the Wang family?!’
For a moment, Young Master Wang’s mind raced, but he couldn’t make sense of it.
"What a coincidence! I’m an idle fish myself. We should all hang out sometime!"
Seeing that Su Chen wasn’t talking, he knew he couldn’t press the matter further. After all, it was their first meeting, and their relationship hadn’t reached that stage yet.
"Sure, anytime!" Su Chen just listened to these pleasantries without taking them too seriously.
The group chatted for a while before Young Master Wang announced his departure. After all, there were people waiting for him downstairs. Before leaving, he made a point of exchanging contact information with Su Chen.
After Young Master Wang left, Su Chen lost interest in staying any longer and said, "It’s getting late. Let’s call it a night, too."
"Alright," Deng Chao nodded with a hint of resignation.
He had actually wanted to have a good chat with Su Chen tonight and get closer to him, but after Chen He’s little stunt... he didn’t feel it was right to say anything more.
Seeing Su Chen to the door, Deng Chao opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, it only came out as, "Mr. Su, let me treat you to dinner again next time we have the chance!"
Seemingly sensing Deng Chao’s unspoken words, Su Chen smiled and said, "No problem. I’ll give you a call next time I’m in the Imperial Capital!"
"Okay, Mr. Su!"
Only after watching Su Chen drive away did Deng Chao turn and go back to the private room.
As soon as he entered, he saw Chen He leisurely sipping tea and playing on his phone.
"You saw that Mr. Su off?" Chen He asked, putting down his phone when he saw Deng Chao return.
"Mhm."
Deng Chao plopped down on the sofa and pinched the bridge of his nose a few times with his right hand.
"Old Deng, what’s the deal with that Mr. Su that makes you so respectful? He doesn’t seem like one of the trust-fund kids."
In truth, Chen He had a selfish reason for agreeing to let Young Master Wang come up to the second floor. He wanted this Eldest Young Master Wang to see the person and check if he knew him.
The result... was self-evident!
Deng Chao shot Chen He an annoyed look before saying, "I don’t know his specific identity, but for the heads of Greater China for the three major luxury groups to be so utterly respectful... what kind of person do you think he is?"
"For all three heads to be so respectful... what kind of person could do that? It’s not like he’s a shareholder in all three groups, right?" Chen He said offhandedly.
But in the next moment, they both jerked their heads up to look at each other, the word "Impossible!" flashing in their eyes.
After a long silence, Chen He finally spoke, "You don’t think that Mr. Su is actually a shareholder, do you?"
"It’s highly likely! Otherwise, I can’t think of any other reason... that would make those three heads act like that!"
-----------------
"Mr. Su, I’ve already contacted them. I was wondering when you might be available?"
Su Chen glanced at the time. It was almost noon. "Let’s say three in the afternoon. Just send me the address."
"Of course, Mr. Su!"
After hanging up, Su Chen stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly gazing at the scenery outside.
After returning from Young Master Huang’s place last night, Su Chen couldn’t sleep a wink.
It wasn’t for any other reason—just that comment from Young Master Wang: "May I ask where you work?"
After thinking for a long time, Su Chen made a decision: to establish an investment firm that was entirely his own.
To that end, Su Chen even made a special call to Hamis, asking him to contact a top-tier headhunting firm to put together a professional team.
Hamis immediately recommended a headhunting firm called Korn Ferry International. As it happened, he was friends with the head of the company’s Shanghai branch.
「Afternoon.」
Bund No. 8—Coffee Shop!
Su Chen was sitting on an outdoor sofa, leisurely admiring the view of the Huangpu River and the Oriental Pearl Tower.
’No wonder coffee sells so well in Shanghai. With a view like this, you have to have at least a couple of cups!’
In the past, Su Chen rarely, if ever, drank coffee. The spare change to buy a cup of coffee would have been enough for him to have a hearty lunch.
Today, he specifically ordered the coffee shop’s most popular drink. At first, he thought it was just average, but the more he drank, the better it tasted!
Su Chen couldn’t help but order a second cup.
"Mr. Su, sorry to keep you waiting!" Hamis said, sitting down opposite Su Chen with a middle-aged man. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"I just got here myself. Is this the headhunter friend you mentioned?" Looking at the middle-aged man dressed in a full suit, Su Chen wondered if he was hot.
"Mr. Su, hello. I’m Aik, the head of Korn Ferry International’s Shanghai branch."
"Hello."
After the two ordered coffee, they got down to business.
"Mr. Su, I heard from Hamis that you want to form an investment company. I was wondering what your requirements might be?" Aik took a notebook out of the briefcase he was carrying.
"I’m not very knowledgeable in this area. Could you walk me through it?"
Aik agreed without the slightest hesitation.
Before coming, Hamis had already given him the lowdown on Su Chen, letting him know this was a major figure who he couldn’t afford to offend.
