From Wage Slave to Tycoon
Chapter 64: This Is Really Interesting
"Young Master Su, Pei Rang’s calling. Did something go wrong?"
Su Chen calmly shook his head. After a quick mental calculation of the time, he had a good idea of what was happening.
Beside them, a thoughtful look flashed in Chen Yulong’s eyes. He knew the name Pei Rang; Chen Feiyu had specifically mentioned him in an earlier report.
’Isn’t Pei Rang at Citibank? Did something go wrong with the stock he’s trading?’ Chen Yulong wondered.
Su Chen then took the phone and answered the call.
The moment the call connected, Pei Rang’s excited roar came through the receiver: "Boss, Goldman Sachs has made their move! Wall Street is starting to issue short reports!"
Before Su Chen could even react, Sicong, who was standing nearby, erupted with excitement.
"Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit!!! Wall Street is really making its move! Young Master Su, you’re incredible!"
Hearing this, both Chen Yulong and his son looked utterly shocked. Anyone capable of building a major company is sharp, and they immediately gleaned a wealth of information from Sicong’s outburst.
Su Chen was shorting a stock or a futures contract. He even had advance knowledge that Wall Street investment giants like Goldman Sachs would be making a move. That information source alone was enough to leave the Chens reeling for a while.
These were Wall Street investment giants, after all. To be able to front-run them and take a cut of the profits first... wasn’t that just incredible?
The way the Chens looked at Su Chen grew even more intense, solidifying the Chen family’s resolve to align themselves with him.
"Alright, I understand. Don’t get too greedy. I’ll leave the specific moves to you. I just want results."
Su Chen’s nonchalant tone was like a bucket of cold water poured over Sicong and the others.
"Yes, Boss!"
Hanging up, Su Chen saw Sicong staring at him with a look of pure confusion.
"What?" Su Chen asked, looking at Sicong.
"You... Ugh, it’s nothing!" Sicong opened his mouth to speak, but then he remembered his previous questions and swallowed his words.
Chen Yulong, however, had a clearer read on the situation. ’Mr. Su must have an enormous amount invested in the market,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, Sicong wouldn’t be reacting like that.’
Though he desperately wanted to know how much Su Chen had invested—and perhaps get in on the action himself—he ultimately held his tongue.
He was also inwardly astonished. ’To trust a subordinate with such a massive play... that’s a level of boldness I couldn’t hope to match!’
......
His previous task interrupted by Pei Rang’s call, Su Chen then scrolled through his contacts, found Arno’s number, and dialed it.
This was all thanks to when he had taken Chen Mengyan to Gaul; Emma had set up his phone with global roaming. As long as he was in Huaxia, he could call anyone in any country.
It was currently 4:15 PM in Xiangjiang, which was 10:15 AM in Gaul—right during business hours.
When Su Chen started dialing, Chen Yulong’s heart leaped into his throat. He watched Su Chen, his face etched with anxiety.
The phone was answered on the third ring.
"Oh, my dear Su! What auspicious wind brings you here? As you say, ’one does not visit the temple for no reason.’ What can I do for you?"
A faint smile touched Su Chen’s lips as he heard Arno’s familiar choice of words. He immediately responded in perfect, fluent Gaulish.
Sicong and the Chens were all stunned. The three of them were fluent in English, but they couldn’t understand a single word of Gaulish.
All they could do was listen as Su Chen spoke, the words a rapid-fire stream of gibberish to their ears.
Although the Chen family had a partnership with the Louis Vuitton Group, they always used English for their discussions. Even if someone spoke Gaulish... well, that’s what translators were for!
The call lasted about three minutes. The moment Su Chen hung up, Chen Yulong gave a slight bow and asked tentatively, "Mr. Su, what did President Arno have to say...?"
Su Chen smiled and waved his hand, signaling for him to relax. "First, let me tell you something interesting..."
At these words, everyone looked at Su Chen curiously, eager to hear what he found so "interesting."
"Arno just told me that he considers the Chen family an indispensable strategic partner for the Louis Vuitton Group, one with immense significance in the Greater China region. The contract renewal is meant to proceed as it always has, with no changes to the profit-sharing terms!"
The instant Su Chen finished speaking, Chen Yulong shot to his feet, his face livid with rage.
"What?"
"Dad..." At his side, Chen Feiyu quickly tugged on Chen Yulong’s sleeve.
Snapping back to his senses, Chen Yulong quickly apologized. "Mr. Su, my apologies. I got carried away."
Su Chen gave a nonchalant wave. "It’s fine. I can certainly understand how you’re feeling right now, Mr. Chen."
After all, nobody enjoys being played for a fool, especially someone of Chen Yulong’s stature.
The situation was actually quite simple. Charles was banking on the Chen family’s dependence on the Louis Vuitton Group. Knowing Chen Yulong had no direct line to the president or any other senior contacts at headquarters, he got bold and tried to extort a pound of flesh from them.
But who could have guessed that the Chen family would be so fortunate? By a complete stroke of luck, they had met Su Chen.
Without Su Chen’s intervention, the Chen family would have likely had to grit their teeth and sign away another ten percent of their profits to secure their future.
"Oh, right. Arno has already handed the contract signing over to the head of the Greater China region, Emma. You can discuss the details with her directly."
Upon hearing this, both father and son from the Chen family bowed deeply to Su Chen. "Thank you, Mr. Su!"
"Think nothing of it. I’m just returning a favor."
Chen Yulong instantly understood the subtext. Su Chen had helped them this time because the Chen family had been generous. They couldn’t go around using his name to get things done in the future. Whether or not they could maintain this relationship would depend entirely on the Chen family’s own actions.
Su Chen sat up straight, poured himself a cup of tea, and took a small sip.
Taking the hint, Chen Yulong knew it was their signal to leave. He quickly stood up and said, "Mr. Su, we won’t disturb your rest any longer. I’ll have Feiyu bring the documents over tomorrow morning!"
"Alright. I won’t see you out," Su Chen said with a faint smile.
After bidding farewell to Su Chen and Sicong, the Chen father and son departed.
Coincidentally, just as the father and son stepped out of their elevator, they saw Charles emerging from the one next to it, pushing a luggage cart with a sullen look on his face.
"Well, well, Charles. What’s all this? Got urgent business back home?" Chen Yulong sauntered over, a smug look on his face.
When Charles saw Chen Yulong, a flash of panic crossed his eyes, but it was immediately consumed by rage.
"Fuck you, Chen Yulong!"
"You knew a major shareholder in the Group all along! Why didn’t you say anything? You just pretended to beg me!"
"It’s your fault I got fired!" As he said this, he lunged at Chen Yulong.
Luckily, security from the Peninsula Hotel arrived just in time to restrain Charles.
"Haha! I should be thanking you. If you hadn’t stirred up so much trouble, I never would’ve met Mr. Su!"
Chen Yulong straightened his clothes and walked out of the hotel, laughing loudly.
The string of curses that followed him out only made his smile widen.
