From Wage Slave to Tycoon
Chapter 70: The Tool-Person Boss Goes into Action
Special Care Ward!
When Su Chen came in, he saw Yang Wei chatting with his wife and Xiaoyann. They must have heard the news about the kidney donor, as the haggard looks on their faces were gone.
"Xiaochen~"
"Brother Cheen~"
His wife and Xiaoyann quickly greeted Su Chen when they saw him enter.
"Sister-in-law, Xiaoyann!" Su Chen replied with a smile.
Yang Wei stood up as well, looking at Su Chen with a nervous expression. He seemed about to speak but was stopped by a look from Su Chen.
After chatting with Yang Wei’s wife and Xiaoyann for a while, Su Chen gave Yang Wei a look and walked out of the hospital room.
"Brother Wei, here are the payment receipts. You should keep them safe," Su Chen said, pulling a stack of receipts from his pocket and handing them over.
Yang Wei hesitated for a moment looking at the receipts, but ultimately accepted them with a trembling hand.
"Xiaochen, I’m treating this as a loan from you. I’ll pay you back after I sell the house. Here’s the IOU I wrote..."
As Yang Wei spoke, he pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, which he had written on with a pen and paper borrowed from the nurses’ station earlier.
"Brother Wei, this IOU... I..."
Before Su Chen could finish, he saw Yang Wei’s resolute gaze, which made it clear he wouldn’t back down until Su Chen accepted it.
"Alright then, I’ll take it." Su Chen tucked the IOU into his pocket. He knew Yang Wei’s personality; the man’s word was his bond. If he didn’t accept it, he was afraid Yang Wei might kneel before him again.
Seeing Su Chen accept the IOU, Yang Wei breathed a long sigh of relief.
"Brother Wei, I’m going to head out. You stay here and take care of your wife and Xiaoyann. I’ll come see you all again in a few days." Su Chen said his goodbyes. The atmosphere here felt a bit oppressive to him.
Especially while he was paying the bills... Su Chen had seen one or two people kneeling in the hospital corridors, hands pressed together in prayer.
’It’s true... when medicine reaches its limits, all that’s left is metaphysics!’
"Want to grab a bite?"
In the hospital parking lot, Su Chen was leaning against his Rolls-Royce, speaking to Si Cong, who was puffing away on a cigarette beside him.
Si Cong threw his cigarette butt on the ground and stamped it out with his foot. "I’ll pass on food. I’ve got a lot going on lately. Let’s do it after I’m done with my work."
"Alright then. I’ll treat you to a meal when you’re free," Su Chen said. He paused, then added, "I owe you one for today. If you need any help in the future, just give me a shout."
"Heh heh, I’m holding you to that!" Si Cong said with a grin.
Even though they were friends, no one ever thought they had too many favors owed to them. Especially when you reached a certain status, a single favor could be enough to pull you back from the brink of disaster.
This society runs on favors... it’s all about give and take.
Just as Si Cong was about to leave, he heard Su Chen’s phone ring and, as if by some strange impulse, he stopped in his tracks.
Su Chen didn’t notice and simply answered his phone.
"Hello? What’s up?"
The caller was none other than his CFO, Zong Xinyao.
"Boss, regarding the investment in the Byte project, is now a good time to talk?" Zong Xinyao’s voice held a trace of excitement.
"Go ahead."
"Boss, after the company’s evaluation, we believe the Byte project is of extremely high quality. It could potentially change the current landscape of the internet. We recommend increasing our investment!"
Su Chen’s brow twitched at her words. Although his company was a recent startup, many of his employees were elites who had worked in the investment industry for years, especially the investment team, which was now the investment analysis department.
’Since the Byte project has the unanimous support of the team, it seems this project really does have potential.’
"What are you suggesting?"
’Since Zong Xinyao called him, she must have a plan.’
"Increase our investment and strive to become a major shareholder in Byte!"
"Do I need to show up in person?" Su Chen understood Zong Xinyao’s intention.
’Show the other party enough respect to secure the investment deal.’
"It would be best if you came in person, Boss!"
After all, Yunmengze Capital had only been established recently and had virtually no reputation in the industry. Even with Zong Xinyao being a former classmate of someone there, the most it got them was priority in negotiations.
Su Chen mulled it over for a moment before agreeing outright.
"Fine. Arrange a meeting for sometime soon. You’ll handle the negotiations, and I’ll just be there to sign."
"Uh... Boss, we might have to take a trip to the Imperial Capital. Their company is over there..."
Su Chen had thought the company was in Shanghai, but it turned out to be in the Imperial Capital.
"Alright. You arrange the itinerary and just let me know when it’s set."
Su Chen planned to use this opportunity to have some fun in the Imperial Capital. His last trip was too rushed, and he didn’t get to see many places.
After hanging up, he saw Si Cong looking at him with a curious expression.
"Where are you flying off to this time?"
"The Imperial Capital. The company’s first official project is there. I’m planning to check it out and spend a few days having fun."
When Si Cong heard Su Chen was going off to have fun again, his mood soured completely.
"Just end me~"
Watching the dejected Si Cong drive away, Su Chen couldn’t help but sigh. "Who says all rich kids do is eat, drink, and play? Behind their glamorous facades, they also have endless things to do."
"Sigh, aren’t I just destined for a life of toil as well?" Su Chen shook his head, opened his car door, and got in.
"Let’s go home."
Jiang Hui immediately started the car and drove away from Ruijin Hospital.
「Imperial Capital」
Wangfujing Peninsula Hotel!
Su Chen stood by the window, gazing at the scenery outside.
"Is everything arranged?"
"It’s all set. The meeting is tomorrow at two in the afternoon at the Byte Company office. By the way, Boss, there are three other investment firms involved in this financing round."
Zong Xinyao, who was standing behind Su Chen holding a folder, quickly took two steps forward upon hearing his question.
"Hmm?" Su Chen’s brow furrowed slightly.
Zong Xinyao quickly explained, "All three were from the previous Series A funding round. Their influence isn’t that great, though."
"This is the company’s first project. I don’t want any mistakes." Su Chen understood that those other firms had their rights; it was unavoidable.
"Don’t worry, Boss. There absolutely won’t be any problems!" Zong Xinyao was very confident about this.
Su Chen nodded slightly at her words. "Alright. Go back to your room and get some rest. You have a heavy task tomorrow."
"Yes, Boss!"
After Zong Xinyao left the room, Su Chen flopped lazily onto the sofa.
Su Chen had originally planned to take a stroll around the nearby Wangfujing area.
But it happened to be the October 1st "Little Golden Week" holiday, and the crowds were absolutely massive.
Just now, when he was looking out the window, the sea of people on Wangfujing Street had already dismayed him.
And that was just Wangfujing Street. If he were to go to popular attractions like the Forbidden City or Yuanming Garden, he’d just be going to see a human traffic jam.
All you could see was a sea of heads...
’Hmm, it’s not like I absolutely have to see the Forbidden City and Yuanming Garden. I can always consider it again when there are fewer people.’
He had just lain down on the sofa to take a short nap when another call came in.
"Ugh, why are there so many calls today!"
Su Chen grumbled, but when he saw the caller ID, he was instantly wide awake.
