Frozen Apocalypse: I Level Up By Eating Snow
Chapter 64: The Big Three Motherfuckers
The thing that caught Walfred’s eye.
It was a post about undead.
[Title]: Everything You Need to Know About Undead Monsters.
[Author]: SSS-rankProfessor
Undead monsters.
The type of monster where the dead rise and walk again, like zombies. That was about the extent of what Walfred knew about undead monsters.
Compared to beast-type or insect-type monsters, undead monsters were rarely encountered in the first place, so he’d never paid them much attention.
But things were different now.
’...The Bone Drake.’
Ever since fighting that thing, Walfred had developed an interest in undead monsters. From the types of undead to their weaknesses, he wanted to absorb every bit of information he could.
And here was exactly that kind of information, so Walfred dove into the post without a second thought.
-----
Sup, newbies. Big bro’s here.
Today I’m gonna teach you about the absolute shitstain undead bastards that you should run from on sight if you meet them outside a shelter, so memorize every word.
First off, what do you think an undead monster is?
Yeah, exactly what you just pictured.
It’s the stuff that looks like a walking corpse at first glance, like zombies and skeletons. Ghost-type bastards like banshees and wraiths fall under this category too.
Anyway, undead bastards are public enemy number one among Hunters. There are two reasons, and I’m about to tell you both, so clean out your ears and listen up. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
First: their stupidly high resistances.
Undead-type monsters have a minimum of 25% resistance to everything except light and life attributes.
And the higher the monster’s rank, the higher those resistances climb. Way higher. For reference, an A-rank common undead monster has 50% resistance across the board.
Now you get why I said run, right?
Oh, and if you happen to be frost attribute, congrats, you’re even more screwed than everyone else.
Ever since the Antarctica Gate broke open, every monster’s frost resistance has gotten disgustingly strong, and undead frost resistance shot up right along with it.
Even basic zombies start at a minimum of 45%.
-----
The tone was crass, but the content was useful.
In particular, the fact that all their resistances started at 25% and climbed from there was news to him.
He’d thought the Bone Drake was just freakishly resistant, but it turned out all undead had high resistances.
’And frost resistance is the highest of them all, huh...’
It struck him as a headache, but not a serious one. Walfred had a skill that could deal damage while ignoring frost resistance.
Granted, it only triggered at a certain probability, but it was still better than nothing.
’Let’s keep reading.’
-----
On the flip side, what if you’re a light or life attribute Hunter?
What are you waiting for? Start unloading your skills.
Undead are weak to light and life attributes, so those resistances start in the negatives.
That means even healing and purification skills can be used as attack skills. Write that down and underline it.
Next up is the second reason undead are such a pain in the ass, but before that, let me tell you which ones to watch out for.
[The Big Three Motherfuckers]
▶Zombie / Ghoul / Corpse Lord
You’re not light attribute?
And you ran into one of the Big Three? Then run and don’t look back. Why? Because these motherfuckers carry an absolutely vile curse as a passive.
It’s called [B-rank Curse: Create Zombie], and the name says it all, right? Put simply, you get infected with a zombie virus.
-----
"A zombie virus..."
Like the kind from zombie movies, where one bite turns you into a zombie? Walfred’s eyes gleamed with curiosity.
-----
If you get hit by one of the Big Three above, there’s a chance you catch the curse, and if you can’t break it, your body goes completely to hell over the next 12 hours.
And if you still haven’t broken the curse by the time those 12 hours are up? Congratulations. You’ll have a body that undead bastards will never attack again.
Because you’ll be a corpse, dumbass.
For reference, non-Awakened turn into zombies, and Hunters turn into ghouls. Be especially careful around ghouls.
They’re stupid fast, and there’s a small chance they’ll use the skills they had back when they were Hunters.
-----
So the resulting creature differed depending on whether the victim was a non-Awakened or a Hunter. That was new to him. Not that the information mattered much to Walfred.
’I’m immune to curses, after all.’
After swallowing the Bone Drake’s Bone Powder, Walfred had gained immunity to all curses of A-rank and below.
The post said the zombie curse was B-rank, so even if one of the Big Three attacked him, there was zero chance of him turning into a zombie.
-----
Alright, next up is how to fight them.
First, find a light or life attribute Hunter in your shelter. Don’t have one? Then get the hell out of there.
I’m not joking.
Fighting undead without light or life attribute is going to be brutal thanks to those busted resistances. Your only option is brute-forcing them down with raw levels or skills.
And it gets even worse starting at Elite rank.
You’re thinking, Elites have a clear weakness in their mana stone, so isn’t the strategy actually simpler?
Yeah, no. I don’t know why, but every one of these bastards has a fully cloaked mana stone that you can’t see. So unless you have a detection skill or you’re confident you can grind their entire body into paste, just run.
-----
Bottom line: light or life attribute was essential.
Of course, Walfred was the exception here too.
As long as he landed an attack and triggered an Ice Shatter mark, he could ignore frost resistance entirely.
And one more thing.
There was a new fact he’d learned.
’I thought only the Bone Drake had an invisible mana stone, but it’s all Elite undead?’
Walfred’s eyes widened slightly.
It was one more reason he needed to keep Elsa by his side.
-----
Lastly, I’ll go over undead by rank.
Memorize this one for sure. It’s how you size up whether something’s worth fighting or whether you should bolt immediately.
I’ll cover the three main ones.
[Common D-rank: Zombie]
[Their combat power is garbage, but these bastards roam in packs of at least thirty. Plus there’s the zombie infection curse I mentioned above.]
If you’re confident you won’t get hit, or you’ve got a skill that can break curses, fighting them is fine.
[Common B-rank: Ghoul]
[The zombie’s superior species.]
These guys move solo, but sometimes they show up with a zombie horde. In that case, just run.
When a ghoul is around, the zombie bastards get buffed too. Think of it as an area-wide passive buff for all C-rank and below undead nearby.
And like I said earlier, these are infected Hunters, so watch out for them occasionally busting out their old Hunter skills.
[Elite B-rank: Corpse Lord, Lich]
[Both of these drag around at least a hundred zombies or wraiths with them. Unless you’ve got shelter-level firepower, run. No exceptions.]
[Elite A-rank: Bone Drake, Dullahan, etc.]
[Run.]
That about covers the types.
That’s it for today’s lecture. Don’t run into any undead, everyone, and survive nice and long.
If you’ve got questions, leave a comment.
I’ll answer.
