"Okay, now who is the Alpha?" Princess asked, they were back to Asha’s private lounge.

Asha looked exhausted and defeated. A deal was a deal. She leaned back against the plush upholstery of the couch, her shoulders dropping as she let out a long, ragged sigh that smelled faintly of expensive gin.

"There is no Alpha."

"What do you mean by that statement? You said you know the Alpha." Princess snapped, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.

"I said I know who took him, did not say he was an Alpha... he is a..." Asha lowered her voice. "He is a Lycan, a royal Lycan. Your bagboy is probably gone, so just forget about him because you and I both know that neither of us can face a Lycan. Maybe your Alpha leader can. So just find another guy to carry your bags," Asha said. She waved her hand dismissively, her fingers trembling slightly as she picked up her half-empty glass from the low table.

Princess’s expression became unreadable. Her jaw went completely rigid, the air catching in her throat as the weight of the name settled into the room. How was she supposed to find a royal Lycan and demand MG back?

It was almost impossible to track them because Lycans did the tracking. No one knew a Lycan until they revealed themselves to you, and you didn’t easily find them unless you had business with those kinds of people. They were ghosts in the underground world, creatures of old blood who didn’t answer to regular packs or Alpha-borns.

"So MG is gone forever..." Beam muttered. She stepped up beside Princess, her face dropping into a flat, solemn mask as she stared down at the ground.

"I can’t believe this. What am I going to say to Faye?" Princess said. Her voice cracked just a little bit, a sudden knot forming in her throat as she pictured her girlfriend’s fierce, hopeful face waiting out in the parking lot.

"Who is Faye?" Asha asked. She tilted her head, a sudden spark of curiosity flashing in her tired eyes as she took a slow sip of her drink.

"My girlfriend and the mother of my pups." Princess stated firmly, her shoulders squaring up instantly as she claimed the title.

"You’re dating the mother of your pups? What happened to Kiara?" Asha blinked in confusion, her mouth hanging open slightly as she set her glass back down with a small clink.

"We broke up. No comments."

"How? I thought you guys were endgame. You two were the couple of the summer last year. Tell me the breakup story. Who dumped who? Was it before or after you cheated on her?" Asha asked. She leaned further over the table, a nasty, gossiping smirk spreading across her face as she ignored the danger rolling off the alpha in front of her.

"I said no comment..." Princess shot back.

"Wow. Who would’ve thought Princess Kings was a cheater? Tsk, tsk, tsk. So much for a lovey-dovey."

"I did not cheat on her. She cheated on me first, and don’t push it, Asha Police." Princess hissed through her teeth, her breathing growing shallow and fast as the old memories threatened to mess with her head.

"That girl is so beautiful that I’d dump every single girl just to have my way with her. Have you seen those curves? They’re worth millions. And those ass and boobs? Billions. Whoever ends up with her is going to be so fucking lucky...." Asha sighed, leaning her head back against the cushion with a faraway look in her eyes.

"You could be the lucky one. She’s free." Princess scoffed, a dark, unpleasant twist forming at the corner of her mouth.

"I don’t want your scraps. I said whoever, not me." Asha laughed, waving her hand through the air to clear the space.

"Well, goodbye," Princess said, turning away...

"How about a drink?"

"I have a variety of drinks at home. I’m not hanging out with you."

"Just today. This could be the last time you see me." Asha’s voice dropped, losing all its teasing edge in an instant.

"What, are you dying?" Princess stopped, looking over her shoulder with a raised eyebrow.

"No. I’m getting married. My youthful days are over..." she said. She let out a dry, miserable chuckle that sounded entirely hollow, her fingers tracing the rim of her glass.

Princess had no choice but to have one drink with the so-called Alpha, who happened to be having a low-key bachelorette party. She let out a heavy sigh, sliding onto the opposite edge of the long leather booth while the smooth jazz continued to echo through the levels of the club.

Asha was getting married to some girl chosen by her parents, and she had no objections because they had threatened to cut her off, block all her credit cards, and revoke her VIP privileges. Not wanting to lose any of that, she agreed to the marriage. She was trading her entire life just to keep her name on the family registry and her pockets full of family cash.

"Well, this is why you make your own money, so people can’t emotionally blackmail you with theirs," Princess said as she raised her glass to the would-be wife. She swallowed the amber liquid in one go, the burning heat tracing a path down her throat and doing absolutely nothing to calm her racing mind.

Meanwhile, Kyle and Beam were busy arm-wrestling. Their elbows were planted firmly on the wooden surface of the bar counter, their faces bright red and teeth gritted as they pushed against each other’s hands with everything they had.

Princess just shook her head in disbelief at the girl before checking her blazer for her phone. Her fingers slid into the empty silk pockets, searching the seams before she remembered that she had brought her tablet out of the house instead, and it was inside her car.

She wondered how long she had spent in the club because Faye might lose patience and burst into the place looking for her best friend.

"I can’t believe this. We’ve both gotten tied down by people we don’t love. You got tied down by a pregnancy, and me by an arranged marriage. This is the end of our reign," Asha said, looking like someone about to cry. Her eyes were glassy, her makeup slightly smudged around the edges as she reached out blindly.

She tried to rest her head on Princess’s shoulder, but Princess shifted away, causing Asha to fall onto the couch. The girl tumbled sideways onto the soft cushions with a dull thud. She didn’t even seem to mind because she looked half drunk, her hair falling over her face as she let out a soft groan.

"I got tied down by the one I love, and I’m happy because she made me a mother and a good girlfriend... She tied me down well, even though she doesn’t believe that I only want her," Princess said. Her voice went quiet, almost entirely swallowed up by the thumping bass coming from the lower levels.

She stared into her drink, one leg crossed over the other as she remembered their argument earlier that morning.

The mere thought that Faye believed Princess didn’t love her enough was driving her insane. It was a constant weight in her stomach, a burning irritation that no amount of expensive liquor could wash away.

Faye kept saying she wanted Kiara, and Princess kept telling her she wanted Faye. The words felt like they were bouncing off a brick wall, never fully sinking into the omega’s stubborn head.

She just wished Faye would finally believe her. She stared at the swirling ice cubes in her glass, her jaw setting into a hard, determined line as her heart hammered a steady rhythm against her ribs.

That if it wasn’t Faye Grande, then Princess Kings didn’t want anyone else.
