Chapter 304: There Is No Grande In Their Name

As the two mothers waited for their pups to return, they sat inside the doctor’s office while Princess continued her theory about Leonny being the Boss Baby.

"I’m telling the truth, Faye. That boy isn’t who we think he is. He knows how to walk, but he’s pretending he doesn’t. If we hadn’t seen that video, we would’ve never known he had already taken his first steps." Princess leaned forward, her chest rising with a sharp, dramatic breath as she looked completely dead serious about the whole thing.

"Just because he refuses to walk doesn’t mean he’s pretending not to know how." Faye sighed, rubbing her forehead with her fingers.

"What if that wasn’t the first time he’d done it? Maybe Leonny walks whenever no one is around. He always knows when his Mommy comes home. He wakes up like a mature pup. He doesn’t cry unless he needs his Mommy, and he feeds himself without getting a single drop of food on himself. He’s a Boss Baby, Baby." Princess insisted, her voice dropping into a conspiratorial whisper as she tapped her finger against her knee to emphasize every single point.

Faye stared at her girlfriend, trying to think of the perfect response to someone who genuinely believed their son had come from a baby company.

"You know who I think is the Boss Baby? Donny. That girl is completely different from her brothers. While everyone else was crying when they were born, Donny wasn’t. She hardly cries, and when she does, she hardly stops. She sleeps like a dead walker. I’m pretty sure she’d sleep through an earthquake. Donny is like an on-and-off switch. Today she’s happy, playful, tomorrow she’s the complete opposite." Faye argued right back, her attitude flaring up as she defended her son by pointing the finger at their daughter instead.

"That is no Boss Baby. Besides, I used to sleep a lot when I was a baby too, so that’s definitely my daughter. I’m talking about your son, the one pretending not to know how to walk." Princess countered instantly, her alpha pride flaring up as she protected her miniature sleeping twin.

The two girls would’ve continued arguing, but the doctor walked in.

"Good afternoon, Ms. Kings and Ms. Grande."

"Good afternoon, Doctor Brown," the girls replied together. Their bickering stopped in a fraction of a second, both of them straightening up in their chairs as they pulled their polite manners back into place.

The nurses returned with the pups before leaving the room. All four children were happily occupied with the lollipops they had received from the doctor.

Doctor Jacqueline Brown informed the parents that there was nothing to worry about. The pups were perfectly healthy. She checked her notes on the clipboard, her eyes scanning the growth charts with a warm, reassuring smile.

Faye mentioned that Ronny had eaten clay earlier and asked the doctor to make sure he was alright. She leaned forward in her chair, her heart giving a nervous little flutter as she watched her son blissfully lick his lollipop.

The doctor assured her that he was fine. She gave a little chuckle, explaining that a tiny bit of non-toxic crafting clay wouldn’t hurt his stomach and would pass through his system naturally by tomorrow morning.

Princess then asked if it was normal for a four-month-old Alpha pup to walk and then seemingly stop walking. She gripped the armrests of her chair, her breathing turning tight as she waited for a professional medical opinion to back up her crazy theory.

The doctor admitted that she rarely treated Alpha children, but promised to ask around and get back to her. She looked a bit puzzled by the question, tapping her pen against the metal clip before closing the folder with a soft snap.

Even after the checkup, the mothers weren’t completely satisfied.

They still wanted answers. The lack of a clear explanation left a weird, lingering weight in the pit of their stomachs.

Mostly Princess. Her jaw remained set in a stubborn line as she pushed the heavy stroller out into the sterile hospital corridor.

She refused to let go of her Boss Baby theory. In her mind, the doctor’s confusion only proved that Leonny was operating on a completely different level than normal infants.

The family left the hospital and stopped by the mall to spend some time together. They bought new clothes and toys for the pups.

Princess still hadn’t given up on making Leonny walk in front of her. Every time they stopped near a bench, she would pull him out of the stroller and try to balance him on the shiny tile floor.

At one point, she placed Leonny’s feet on top of her own and walked around the mall with him.

Faye could only shake her head as she watched the determined mother and son. She leaned against the railing of the upper floor, a soft laugh escaping her lips as she watched Princess slowly glide across the mall floor like a giant penguin carrying its chick.

....

Meanwhile, inside Kings Hospital...

Doctor Jacqueline Brown sat in her office eating a sandwich when a woman suddenly entered.

"Oh, sorry. I’m currently on my lunch break. You can check with one of the other doctors if you need assistance," Doctor Jacqueline said. She quickly set her food down on a paper napkin, swallowing hard as she wiped her fingers.

"I’m not a patient." The woman spoke with a sharp, icy precision that cut right through the quiet atmosphere of the private office.

"If you’re not a patient, then what are you doing in my office?" Doctor Jacqueline asked, her eyebrows knitting together as she took in the stranger’s expensive tailored suit and cold eyes.

"You must be new around here. Let me introduce myself. I am Doctor Silviana Kings, Chief Executive Officer of Kings Hospital."

Doctor Jacqueline immediately stood up and greeted her respectfully. Her heart did a violent flip behind her ribs, her face turning pale as she bowed her head toward the older woman.

"I’m sorry, ma’am. I didn’t realize you were the one in charge."

"Since you’re new, I’m not going to fire you. Consider this a pardon." Silviana said, her voice completely devoid of any warmth as she marched over to the massive metal filing cabinets against the far wall.

Silviana folded her arms. She stood perfectly straight, her sharp eyes locking onto the doctor like a hawk sizing up its prey.

"I would like to see the medical reports for one of the Kings quadruplets."

"Do you mean the Grand-Kings children?" Doctor Jacqueline asked, her hand trembling slightly as she reached for the keys to the locked drawer.

"They are Kings. There is no Grande in their name." Silviana snapped. Her breathing didn’t even change, but the pure authority leaking from her posture made the entire room feel incredibly heavy.

The temperature in the room suddenly felt colder. The young doctor felt a chill run straight down her spine as she pulled out the thick folder, her fingers ice cold against the cardboard.

"Give me the file on Donny Kings."
