Future Pet Shop
Chapter 178: Signing Ceremony
"Wait, this panda looks so familiar, doesn’t it?" Someone on Weibo dug up the photo of Hah’Er rescuing Hou Longtao on Xiong Mountain from a few days ago. "It has to be the same panda, right?"
"Yeah, the donation recipient is listed as the Yunzhong City Zoo, and the rescue on Xiong Mountain also happened in Yunzhong City." Someone else found even more conclusive evidence.
"Also, have you all forgotten about the talent show from a while back? There was a panda in that too, and the live broadcast was also from Yunzhong City." Someone even posted a video screenshot from the talent show. "Look at these two pandas. Aside from being a little chubbier, they look exactly the same!"
’Huh? Has Hah’Er gotten fat?’ Shen Yibin carefully sized up Hah’Er while racking his brain, trying to remember what he looked like when they first met. It seemed... he really was a lot chubbier now.
It was no wonder. Ever since Hah’Er came to Shen Yibin’s store, he had been served delicious food and drinks every day. It would have been difficult for the little guy *not* to gain weight. Shen Yibin patted Hah’Er’s belly. "Hah’Er, are you getting fatter and fatter? You need to exercise more! From now on, in addition to your morning workout and evening square dancing, you need to move around during the day, too. Don’t just lie on the sofa all the time. Go run around everywhere like Egg!"
Egg was much more active than Hah’Er. Even when he was just in the store, he rarely sat still, constantly running up and down. He would even take the initiative to greet new customers, which helped Sun Qian and the others win over quite a few clients.
"Hmph?" Hah’Er feigned innocence and glanced around the crowded store, as if to say he had no room to exercise even if he wanted to. Then he continued to lie on the sofa without moving a muscle.
"Uh, well, just wait a bit longer. The new store will be renovated in a couple of months, and you’ll have plenty of space to play then." Shen Yibin began to daydream about Hah’Er frolicking among the bamboo and trees. Once that happened, everything would be perfect—except for the lack of a few female pandas to keep Hah’Er company.
’It looks like there isn’t much left in Mrs. Wang’s shop. I wonder if we can start construction early? I’ll ask her tonight when I take Egg to go square dancing. Starting a day earlier means Hah’Er can move in a day earlier.’ Shen Yibin couldn’t wait to see the look of surprise on Hah’Er’s face when he entered the new store.
Soon, another day passed. After dinner, Shen Yibin headed to the public square with Hah’Er, Egg, Sylvie, and Sakai Kaori. Egg still had the slightly-too-large safety helmet on his head. As for Hah’Er, he attracted countless onlookers who stopped to watch him. From their hushed conversations, it seemed they had recognized him as the "brick-carrying construction worker" from Weibo.
"Nothing’s tastier than mineral water, ah-liuliu..." Shen Yibin had been lost in the world of Weibo today and had made dinner a bit later than usual. By the time they arrived at the square, Mrs. Wang and the others were already dancing to music. Today, they hadn’t chosen the latest internet hit, but had instead dug out a long-standing folk song.
But as soon as they saw Egg, they immediately turned off the music, surrounded Shen Yibin, and playfully scolded him for a while. They then herded Egg onto the stage and switched to a new song. Sylvie and Sakai Kaori also joined the dancers with Hah’Er. Hmm, the longer that girl Sakai Kaori stayed at the shop, the less reserved she seemed to become. This change had also won her Egg’s affection. The affinity-testing app showed that her affinity level with Egg was slowly increasing. It probably wouldn’t be long before she met the minimum requirement to purchase Egg.
From within the crowd, Hah’Er repeatedly waved at Shen Yibin, wanting him to join the dancers as well. But Shen Yibin considered himself an uncultured man and could only respectfully decline such a high-class, artistic activity.
He went to a nearby coffee shop, ordered a cup of tea, and scrolled through Weibo while continuously taking photos of the group. If he weren’t afraid that posting the pictures now would interfere with the zoo’s promotional efforts, he would have long since posted Hah’Er’s clumsy dance moves and Egg’s comical helmet on Weibo.
After one refill, it was finally time for the square dancing to end. Shen Yibin found Mrs. Wang and cautiously sounded her out. Perhaps she was in a particularly good mood from dancing with Egg recently, because Mrs. Wang agreed to Shen Yibin’s proposal without hesitation. "No problem. I’ll move out what I need to move, and I’ll put the rest in one of the rooms for now. You can start construction on the other rooms first."
"Thank you so much! When you’re ready to move, just let me know. I’ll find a moving company for you, and I’ll cover the cost." Mrs. Wang’s agreement would save Shen Yibin at least ten days. The thought of Hah’Er being able to play in the bamboo forest ten days earlier made the cost of a moving company seem trivial.
"Okay, I’ll let you know in advance when I’m ready." After saying that, Mrs. Wang finally asked the question that had been bothering her for a while. "Bin, what’s the deal with that helmet on Egg’s head?"
"Hah, he probably saw Hah’Er wearing a helmet and thought it looked cool, so he snatched it. He didn’t even consider how big Hah’Er’s head is compared to his own," Shen Yibin said, shaking his head. "I bet he’ll get tired of it in a couple of days."
"If he likes it, I’ll go buy him a small one tomorrow!" Mrs. Wang was just that type—if she had the money, she’d do as she pleased. But it probably wouldn’t be easy to find a safety helmet that small, would it? Egg’s head was tiny, about the size of a young child’s. What kind of construction site would dare to hire child laborers?
Laughing and chatting, they returned to the store. Shen Yibin immediately shooed Hah’Er into the bathroom. As for the chores of cleaning up, feeding the pets, and letting them out to play, he left those to Sakai Kaori and Egg.
"Hah’Er, make sure you get squeaky clean. You have to go to the signing ceremony tomorrow, so you need to make a good impression." ’Hmm, a signing ceremony probably requires a signature, right? Should I teach Hah’Er how to hold a pen beforehand, just for show?’
The next morning, after getting up, Shen Yibin changed Hah’Er into a clean outfit and then pulled out the suit he had stuffed in the very back of his own closet. He then took Hah’Er downstairs. Not long after he opened the store, Qin Qing pulled up to the entrance in a special car from the municipal government. He was here to pick up Shen Yibin and Hah’Er for the signing ceremony.
"Mr. Shen, you look quite dashing today. And Hah’Er looks especially adorable," Qin Qing said with a smile, offering a few compliments. He had been following the buzz Hah’Er caused online yesterday. With this event as a foundation, he was even more confident in his plan to invite Hah’Er to be Yunzhong City’s tourism ambassador.
If the plan succeeded, he would certainly be able to advance his career, which was why Qin Qing was in such a good mood. "Mr. Shen, Hah’Er, please get in the car. The mayor is already waiting."
