Gacha Leveling
Chapter 181 - 42 – The Laufgraan War 17
Even without turning his own mana into unholy using his skill, Matthew could cast the unholy fire spell on his sword and bullets. His bullets hit hard Oifan's holy mana wall being immediately dispelled.
Having the wall between him and the light mage, Matthew could approach him without being attacked. He sidestepped the wall and bet on fighting the wizard at close range. His experience said that it was the best strategy against magic users.
However, Oifan showed himself to be an impressive hand to hand fighter. He covered his staff in holy mana and could easily defend himself from Matthews attacks and dodge his shots.
While they trade blows, Ffyr tried to hit the elf with fireballs, but he defended himself with mana shields even while defending from Matthew's strikes.
Oifan found an opening and counterattacked with a laser beam that hit Matthew on the armored shoulder. He then connected a blow on Matthew's side with his staff and another laser beam on his chest sending him flying away.
Ffyr cushioned his fall with a gust of wind and threw fireballs against the elf to keep him from continuing his attack.
Matthew jumped to his feet, unhurt because of his armor. But he knew he'd be dead otherwise.
Facing such a powerful enemy without being able to use his Unholy Mana would be extremely hard. He'd need to trust Ffyr and count on her to defeat their enemy together.
He shot at Oifan again who raised another wall to protect himself.
Ffyr shot fireballs from the other side, forcing the light mage to concentrate his defense on two sides.
The elf then conjured some light balls that flew on their own on the sky and shot laser beams against the both of them.
Matthew and Ffyr were forced to stop their attack and dodge the lasers coming from the balls circling the air.
Matthew released some miasma when activating his Unholy Skill to dodge the attacks with more ease.
At this moment, Oifan conjured a barrage of holy laser beams against Matthew who managed to dodge all but one that hit him on his forearm, opening a hole in his armor.
Matthew quickly healed himself. Being hit by holy mana while under the effects on unholy mana made his Vital Shield almost nonexistent. However, he needed the Strength and Agility boost that the unholy mana gave him.
He then charged forward, forgoing his Vitality Boost skill and focusing only on his Reckless Agility despite it reducing his Vitality.
With this Matthew reached extreme speeds that, aided by his Sixth Sense skill, allowed him to dodge all Oifan's attacks with ease.
The elf flew high when Matthew got too close. The human shot up forcing his enemy to protect himself with a holy mana shield against the flaming blue bullets.
Then Oifan was caught by surprise by Ffyr who hit him with a powerful fireball, making him fall on top of a waiting Matthew.
Matthew slashed upwards with Aym's dagger coated in unholy fire aiming at the neck of the flying elf.
Oifan managed to dodge on the last second, getting a deep wound on his cheek that immediately caught on fire and spilled hot blood on the floor.
When Matthew tried to shoot with his gun to kill the mage, the elf threw a ball of holy light on Matthew sending him flying away when it exploded against his belly.
Oifan purified the blue flames burning his face when he got time after that.
Matthew got up healing himself feeling the pain from the blast.
The elf then pointed his staff at Matthew and dispelled the miasma around him with a Bless spell.
"You are really dangerous, human." Oifan said, thinking that it was best to seal his ability to use the unholy mana rather than use it to his advantage in piercing his opponent's Vital Shield.
"Did you see that?" Ffyr asked Matthew telepathically.
"He needs his staff to use holy mana." Matthew smiled.
Matthew shot again with his gun, using the technique Faynn taught him to put on his armor using the Shadow Form skill to replace the magazines as soon as he emptied them.
Oifan protected himself with a mana wall against Matthew's flaming bullets, with regular fire now. And tried to hit Ffyr who sneaked again behind him, flying in the air.
The fairy dodged, but was unable to try any attack against him.
At that moment, Matthew used his Copy skill to copy the light balls spell cast by Oifan. That took the elf by surprise and Matthew's light balls started to fire lasers at him the same way his balls fired at Matthew.
Matthew's were much weaker than Oifan's, but his intention was just to distract the light mage.
He charged in at full speed. Being attacked by Ffyr's fireballs, Matthew's light balls and Matthew himself, the elf's attention was too widespread. This allowed Matthew to approach him and attack with his full strength at his opponent's staff.
His attack connected, but Oifan resisted the strike, holding fast his weapon. But Matthew's idea was not to disarm him with brute force. He stored his gun in his Inventory and held the elf's arm.
"Drop your staff!" Matthew ordered while using his Entice skill on him.
Oifan did, but soon recovered his own will since Matthew's Magic could not fully pierce the elf's mental defenses.
As soon as he recovered his own consciousness, he shot a powerful laser beam against Matthew, sending the human flying away and hitting a tree with enough force to break it in half.
Matthew sat on the ground healing himself with a smile on his face and blood in his mouth.
Oifan quickly realized what his intentions were and tried to pick his staff back up, but Ffyr was faster than him. She used a gust of wind to push the staff away from the elf and flew fast to pick it up.
"Fly far away with it." Matthew told her telepathically. "I can take him now."
Oifan tried to fly after Ffyr, but Matthew stopped him copying his laser beam spell.
Then he got up on his feet, took out Tina's dispel rod and removed the blessing preventing him from using unholy mana.
As miasma took over Matthew, he ignited his sword with unholy fire illuminating the night blue.
At that point, the troops assaulting the encampment were driven away returning to the walled port from where they came from. Without Oifan's help, they could not best their defenses.
"Is it over?" Erin asked, looking around.
"Matt isn't back yet." Mia said.
"I'll go look for him." Faralynn said and was physically stopped by Faynn.
"It's too dangerous." The elven spy said. "Let's trust him."
"We also have much to do." Tina said, pointing at the burned cloth that was once Faralynn's tent.
"I'll go help with the wounded." Erin said.
"Helen, help me with this." Tina asked while cleaning the furniture that was thrown about.
Faralynn sighed and stepped forward, also helping clean the place.
Mia looked at Faralynn's face. She understood very well what her friend was feeling. She was feeling the same.
"I'll look for him. He might need help." She said, running outside and ignoring Tina's protests.
Matthew charged forward dodging a laser beam and shooting at his opponent with his gun on his hand once again.
Oifan raised a mana wall to protect himself and countered with exploding light balls.
Matthew passed through the explosions at high speed and copied the attack against the wall in front of him, shattering it with them. Immediately after, he shot blue fire bullets against the elf that raised a shield wall to deflect them.
Oifan then hit Matthew on the chest with a laser beam, but this time it wasn't strong enough to stop him from going forward.
Matthew slashed down at the elf who poured all his magic into a shield to protect him against the attack.
The blade stopped a hair width from his face.
When Matthew tried to continue his attack with another slash, Oifan blinded the human with a flash of light and flew high fleeing from him.
Matthew shot up as soon as his eyes allowed him and Oifan shot lasers down back at him.
At this moment, Ffyr landed in the encampment with Oifan's staff on her hand. She took a long way around to avoid being followed by the elf.
"Where's Matt?" Faralynn was the first to ask.
"He's fighting that flying elf." Ffyr explained giving the staff to Tina.
Then the lights of the battle could be seen from afar, since Oifan was now flying above the trees.
"We need to help him." Faralynn said, grabbing her sword.
"No you won't." Faynn stopped her. "It's too dangerous for you to leave camp."
"Faynn!" Faralynn protested, but Faynn was resolute.
"I'll go back." Ffyr said. "Don't worry. Matt will win." She consoled the worried elf.
"Please Ffyr." Faralynn pleaded.
At this point, Ffyr disappeared in a flash of light.
Matthew used his Summon Pact skill to call her back to him.
"Let's fly!" Matthew asked her.
