Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World
Chapter 44: Hell Mode
Kale rushed into the Apprentice dormitory, getting into his room. On the path, he bumped into many people, but did not give a damn about any of their shouts and banter.
Locking his room, the first thing he did was sit at the table with a pen and a paper.
Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes, and all the information flashed in his mind, everything that he had consumed till now.
All the information in his mind took the visual shape of an enormous, entangled spiderweb of vast reaches.
His mind began to travel through all of it, every single one of the webs, unraveling them thread by thread, node by node.
Forming a semblance of pattern, a lineup of information that would be useful to his cause.
He already knew of the general process of what he needed to do. It was not like the first time he would be creating a completely new species from scratch.
Since Kale did it many times on Earth, after all, he wasn’t the best Genetic Engineer on Earth for nothing.
Though it would be the first time he would be doing so in this magical world, and that would be a challenge in its own right, since the process of creating a Chimera in this world was very different from the scientific approach of his old world.
Kale noted that the first major objective was to assemble the right DNA structure.
Because DNA was essentially the complete source code of an individual, it was a programming language that encompassed an individual’s entire existence. But the level of that programming is so unfathomably advanced that human comprehension cannot truly hope to understand it completely.
By the time of his death on Earth, humans could grasp at most 2-5% of it.
So, assembling the DNA of his desired Beast would be like creating the blueprint of a structure before starting the project.
But unlike the blueprint of an inanimate structure, he could not simply draw the structure with his hands. Rather, he could only estimate the types of pieces required to be present in the blueprint, aka the DNA structure.
"What are the best qualities of a Dragon?" Kale questioned himself softly.
Impenetrable and unfathomably strong body.
Impenetrable Mental defense.
Affinity to all six elements of the world.
The ability to command all species of the world with a single order.
Legends say that the Dragons are also the best crafters. Their body parts are the best material for creating any artifacts.
Not only that, the Dragon’s body in itself is the best weapon in the world.
Kale’s eyes narrowed in suspicion; now that he thought about it, in all five human awakened paths.
The Dragons seem to be the epitome of them all.
Martials who train their bodies.
Psions who train their minds.
Tamers who command Beasts.
Elementals who command the elemental magic.
Artificers who create magical tools.
And Diviners were the most obvious since they are basically the ’Users of Dragon Authority.’ Meaning their power is directly bestowed by the Winged Lizards.
A sudden realization rocked his mind, as Kale muttered in disbelief, "Wait a minute, if Dragons have the absolute affinity towards all awakened paths, or if they are the originators of it."
"Then what if a Tamer somehow bonds with a Dragon as their first-ever beast? Then that Tamer would have complete affinity for all paths? Just as the Dragons?" As he said the words, his voice trembled.
It was an extremely provoking thought; Kale scowled, "Is that the real reason why the World Dragon cursed me?"
"It was not only because I have the potential to tame a Dragon, but also because any Tamer who does tame a Dragon would have the potential to become just as great if not greater than the Dragons; was that something the World Dragon was afraid of?" surmised Kale with a solemn look.
In fact, the more he thought about it, the more it seemed to be true.
So much so that his initial plans on how he would go about making his prized Beast of endless potential shifted from its initial course.
He would not merely have to create species that seem to possess similar or greater qualities as Dragons, but something that has potential across all Awakened paths.
Kale’s face twisted, "Can I even do that? Is that even possible in this measly amount of time?"
For a moment, doubt crossed his face at his sudden realization: the daunting difficulty of his task had just increased even further, from hard mode to hell mode.
"Fuck..." Even he couldn’t help but curse at the prospect of it.
Kale gritted his teeth and went back to writing his list of necessary components.
So, to create the right DNA, he needed the cell samples of —
Beasts with the strongest type of bodies.
Beasts with the strongest type of mental defense.
Beasts that have the strongest affinity with Wind, Earth, Water, Fire, Light and Darkness.
Beasts that have the strongest bloodline authority over the other species of Beasts.
Then the blood of the very Dragons, which would forcefully hold them together.
And the genome sequence of a Beast with an extreme regeneration trait, which would act as a flexibility mechanism.
As for collecting all the powerful Beast corpses, he would ultimately have to ask his master’s favor for it.
Kale himself did not have the authority or money to get those materials. Not only that, he needed high-end equipment to perform such microcellular work.
There was also a need for his access to higher sections of the third library.
As he finalized the details of it within an hour, Kale did not dally; rather, he rushed back to the Fleshcraft tower, barging into his master’s work chamber.
His master listened to all of his requirements with rapt attention.
But there was a strange expression in his eyes. But he did not comment on it; he was silent for a second, which made Kale somewhat nervous, wondering if his demands were a bit too extravagant.
After all, he had asked for corpses of Beasts that were on Tyrant Rank and specific species, each among the rarest.
Lazek spoke with a sigh, "Such high ranks of Beast corpses are a bit too hard to come by, and frankly I don’t think you need such rank of Beasts; rather it’s the species that is the most important, is it not?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Seeing Kale’s disappointed expression, his master added, "Don’t get me wrong, I can get them, but it would take much time..."
Kale hesitated for a moment and said, "Then can you get me corpses of species of Beasts of Rvager rank and within a few days? Also, I would still like at least some body part of the Tyrant Rank corpses."
Lazek chuckled, "I can do that, don’t worry, and don’t bother hesitating if you need more things."
Then his master handed him a small-looking pouch and said, "This is a spatial pouch; go take all the equipment you need from this room. Also, this bag has three thousand gold coins; spend them however you need."
His master brought out a token and handed it to Kale. "Show this token to the manager of the Apprentice dorm; there are a few special experiment rooms within that building, and the manager will give you the keys to one of them."
"As for access to higher sections of books, just ask the librarian; he will show you to whatever you need," added his master.
For a moment, Kale was taken aback; he did not expect his master to settle all of this so quickly, almost as if the man had already prepared much of the things in advance for him.
The Cursed Tamer stated in a grateful tone, "Thank you, master."
And Kale immediately started picking up the equipment he needed, without waiting to see what his master would say.
