Chapter 49: Dark Octagon

The Pillcraft Grandmaster Oram looked at his junior brother and said, "I think you already know what I can and cannot do..."

He continued, "No amount of powerful pills will grow his life force at this point; at best, I can stabilize his health so that his condition would remain steady for the duration of his remaining lifespan."

At this moment, Kraul turned to Lazek, "What’s the condition to break his curse? Tell me the details...."

Lazek sighed; he buried his hateful thoughts towards the Church; this wasn’t the time to think about those things; it was more important to think of ways to save his talented disciple before anything.

He shortly explained what he knew, how Kale needed to become a Tamer, and the only way for him to do that was to tame a chimera, because a chimera goes under the radar of the curse’s blockade.

Kraul said after a moment of thought, "So, Kale aims to make a powerful enough chimera with enough potential to rival the dragons?"

The man said in a reprimanding tone, "Even Sovereign-rank Artificers have attempted to do so for the past thousands of years and have never come close to succeeding; it’s nothing but a pipe dream."

Oram did not state the obvious, but his thoughts were also more or less the same; he commented, "I think it’s better to wake him up and have an honest talk..."

Lazek frowned, "The kid has his secrets, whatever they may be, so he doesn’t really trust me in this matter..."

However, Oram paid no heed to his junior brother’s worries and woke Kale, who was once again flabbergasted to see all three of them in his room.

He shot a cold glare at his master for knocking him out, but thankfully the system confirmed that nothing suspicious had been done to him and that Lazek was only worried.

Oram spoke softly to Kale, "What do you want to do, my boy?"

Kale hesitated for a moment and explained his own thought process, "I know what you all want to say, that it is impossible to create something equal or superior to the Dragons, and frankly I agree."

The three Grandmasters were quite surprised by his words, and Kale continued, "However, even if I cannot do that, I can create something close to the potential of Dragons; no, I am determined to create something like that."

"Otherwise my potential as a Tamer would go to waste; I would rather live as an average Tamer knowing I was destined to be far more...." he concurred coldly.

There was a long stretch of silence until his master asked, "And you intend to work day and night without rest for your remaining lifespan for that purpose?"

Kale nodded; no hesitation could be seen in his eyes. His enemies were the Dragons themselves. Aiming to become average or a mere genius would never suffice for his agenda.

Lazek questioned him once more, "And what if you just die in the process of it?"

Kale chuckled, "Then that’s fine as well..."

With his confident words, a flicker of a smile appeared on the faces of three grandmasters.

Oram said, "I have a certain type of Pill which will keep you healthy till the remaining days of lifespan...."

Kraul added, "I have an Artifact that can take away all fatigue from you as long as you wear it; I will give it to you."

Lastly, his master Lazek spoke, "I have created an artifact for you that increases mental power by 20% as long as you wear it."

Kale was stunned; he did not know how to thank them for their kindness. At this point, he was much more willing to believe them, since the system had confirmed that the Grandmasters did not have any hostile intentions towards him in his unconscious state.

In the end, he bowed slightly to the Grandmasters to show his gratitude.

Kraul gave him a wristband-shaped artifact; his master gave him a headband that Lazek had promised to make for him; and Oram handed him the precious, pulsing reddish pill oozing with vibrant life force.

As he wore the artifacts and consumed the pill, system notifications followed.

[Host has consumed the Master rank medicine, Red Life Pill; all bodily and mental issues of the host are being resolved.]

[Host’s condition has returned to optimal state.]

[Your lifespan has increased by five days, current lifespan 25 days]

[Host has worn the Master-rank Artifact Stamina Band]

[Host will not lose mental or physical stamina as long as it is worn]

[Host has worn the Master-rank Artifact Blessed Headband]

[Host will possess 20% additional mental power as long as it is worn.]

Kale was pleasantly surprised by the five-day increase in his lifespan.

Kraul and Oram left; only his master Lazek remained there. The man sighed and handed Kale another spatial pouch. "The Tyrant-rank materials are here."

The Cursed Tamer then made another request, "Master, I need a few more materials within tomorrow..."

Lazek smiled and nodded for his disciple to continue, and Kale stated, "I need the corpse of an Alpha-rank Dark Octagon and 100 Crystal Slimes... alive."

Kale’s master hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he nodded, "Alright, consider it done..."

After that, Lazek left to gather his disciple’s newly requested materials. Kale went back to the experiment chamber.

Now, with even more fervor, as the issue of his continuously deteriorating physical state was solved.

Kale started work from the base state once more, extracting genes that represent the six elemental affinities, but this time from Tyrant-rank beasts’ body parts.

After 24 hours of continuous attempts, he arrived at an 80.77% chance of successfully assembling the gene sequence.

As Kale commanded the system, the attempt to create the theorized sequence clearly succeeded.

Similarly, Kale extracted traits from the body parts of the other Tyrant-rank beasts, each of whom specialized in one of the five Awakened pathways.

With all five gene parts ready, the only thing left to do was attempt another complete fusion, but he did not do so; rather, he waited for his master to deliver his last two requested materials. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Sure enough, a knock came from outside of his experiment room; a bit less than 24 hours had passed since Kale requested his master.

Kale dismissed the Gene Lab and opened the door, but, strangely, his master wasn’t there. On the floor were two spatial storage devices; one was normal-looking, like the one he possessed. Another one was metallic and box-shaped.

He picked them up and closed the door, manifesting the Gene Lab once more.

Kale looked into the pouch and saw the complete corpse of Dark Octagon; this creature was almost like an octopus. Yet much more monstrous-looking, and quite large.

But the specialty of this particular creature was its horrendous self-regeneration capacity, as well as its adaptability to survive any situation.

Once Kale extracted that specialty from this creature.

Then that gene would act as a soft equalizer among the strong genes, as the genes constantly fight each other, trying to gain supremacy in the process of complete fusion to create the desired DNA.
