Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes
Chapter 487: Case
After a few seconds, she pulled her hand away.
"Can we talk privately?" she asked.
Lana nodded. They stepped aside.
Jamie spoke in a low voice. "The talisman was swapped," she said. "By the delivery person."
Lana’s expression darkened slightly. ’So it’s the delivery chain...’
She exhaled slowly. "Understood."
Returning to Nicholas, Lana explained everything.
Nicholas clenched his fists. "So what should I do now?"
Lana calmly took two talismans and handed them to him.
"This one is genuine," she said. "And as compensation... You may keep both."
Nicholas froze.
He stared at the talismans in disbelief.
"I... I can’t accept this," he said, shaking his head. "I even wrote a bad review about your shop..."
Lana smiled faintly.
"That’s alright," she said gently. "You were disappointed. Anyone would have reacted the same way."
Her calm and understanding tone struck him deeply.
A wave of guilt washed over him. ’I really misjudged her...’
Looking at her, his impression of Lana rose even higher.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but think of himself as a fool.
After Lana left, he sat alone and began carefully typing out the follow-up matter.
His fingers hovered over the screen for a moment before he finally posted it, and as soon as it went live, a deep breath escaped his chest.
’It’s done... finally done,’ he thought.
Without wasting another second, he gently took out the two talismans and stored them away as family heirlooms, handling them with a reverence that bordered on awe.
After all, he clearly remembered that he had originally ordered only basic and exorcism talismans, yet Lana had personally given him intermediate.
’She didn’t have to do that...’ he murmured under his breath, his eyes softening as he realized just how sincere she had been.
The post immediately caught attention and before long, he found himself riding the sudden wave of popularity.
Notifications flooded in relentlessly, each one bringing more visibility, more customers, and ultimately, more money.
Of course, he did not let that money sit idle.
’If her talismans brought me this much... then reinvesting is the only logical step,’ he thought.
He used those very earnings to purchase even more of Lana’s talismans, and over time, they ended up earning a significant profit by selling them.
However, that was a story for another day.
For now, Lana had already taken action.
Without hesitation, she filed a lawsuit against the delivery company.
There was no trace of leniency in her decision, no room for compromise.
She had no intention of letting the matter slide so easily.
The delivery man who had stolen the exorcism talismans soon found himself standing in court, his face pale.
Since Lana did not want her identity to be fully exposed, she appointed a representative, Donna, to stand in her place and fight the case.
The proceedings unfolded swiftly, almost mercilessly.
The evidence was clear, leaving little room for doubt, and it did not take long before the verdict leaned heavily against the delivery man.
He was ordered to return the stolen exorcism talismans. Yet, even then, he refused to accept it quietly.
"But... but she already has so many talismans!" he burst out. "What difference does it make if I took just one? Can’t she show a little mercy?"
His breathing grew uneven as he continued, his eyes reddening. "I’m just a common man... I travel to dangerous places every day. I needed those exorcism talismans to survive. I had no choice!"
As his words echoed through the courtroom, he suddenly stopped, as if realizing how hollow they sounded.
Donna, seated calmly, merely looked at him.
"I already do my part when it comes to charity," she stated coldly, her voice steady and unyielding. "I have no obligation to extend that kindness to strangers who choose to steal from me."
The deliveryman immediately broke down.
"I have a child to feed!" he cried out.
"My wife worries about me every single day. What did I do wrong? Replacing one talisman wouldn’t even take her an hour... but for me, it could mean life or death!"
Hearing him, Donna’s expression did not change in the slightest. Instead, she leaned forward slightly, her gaze sharp.
"If you truly wanted to save your life," she said, "you could have contacted me. You could have sent me a message, explained your situation, and told me how desperate you were."
She paused briefly, letting her words sink in.
"Perhaps I might have taken pity on you," she continued.
"Perhaps I might have helped. But instead, you chose to steal from a complete stranger, and worse, you had the audacity to remain silent and pretend innocence until evidence was presented. That is not desperation. That is deceit."
The moment those words left her lips, the man fell completely silent, his head hanging low as if all strength had left his body.
Meanwhile, far away from the courtroom, there were others whose regret ran so deep it felt like their hearts were bleeding.
It was none other than the Almond family.
They had recently learned that a highly popular talisman seller had Lana as his representative, and that same seller was offering high-quality protective and offensive talismans at surprisingly low prices.
’If we had maintained our relationship with her...’ the thought gnawed at them relentlessly. ’We could have received them at an even lower cost... perhaps even gained her favor.’
Now, desperation had replaced their previous indifference.
Mr. and Mrs. Almond began sending messages to Lana repeatedly, each one carefully crafted to remind her of the past, attempting to rekindle what they had long discarded.
They spoke of old memories, of family ties, of misunderstandings that could be forgiven.
But Lana ignored every single one of them.
As she stared at their messages, a faint, almost mocking smile appeared on her lips.
’How ironic...’ she thought.
In her past life, during this exact period, Brenda had slowly begun to establish her foothold.
Back then, Lana had been fearful, constantly trying to prove her worth.
She had gone out of her way to send message after message to Mr. and Mrs. Almond, desperately trying to secure a place in their hearts.
