The company continued south.

The twin suns slowly sank toward the horizon, setting the clouds ablaze in a magnificent wash of orange-red.

A vast river, so wide its other bank was out of sight, lay before them. The current was swift, and in the lingering light of sunset, the ceaselessly churning water shimmered with a golden glint, like a flowing river of gold.

The air was thick with damp mist, mingled with the fresh scent of earth and vegetation.

"This is the Canglan River."

Raylo reined in Baofeng, feeling the river wind on his face. It carried the unique, wild spirit of this world.

"Make camp on the high ground ahead!"

Ed’s resonant command echoed through the company.

The well-trained Knights sprang into action. The Pegasus Knights and Griffin Knights landed on a gentle rise overlooking the river. They skillfully unloaded supplies, pitched tents, and set up a perimeter watch.

The Hill Giants, meanwhile, planted their massive Wolf Fang Clubs in the ground and sat in a circle.

The camp quickly took shape as bonfires were lit one after another, chasing away the evening chill.

Once Kado had settled his kinsmen, he grew restless.

He shuffled over to Raylo and rumbled in broken Common Tongue.

"My lord, there are big fish in the river! I’ll go catch some for dinner!"

"Go on."

Raylo nodded with a smile.

"Be careful."

Permission granted, Kado grinned excitedly and called over a dozen other Hill Giants.

They left their heavy Wolf Fang Clubs behind, each instead drawing several javelins from their backs.

The Giants went to the riverbank and spread out, their eyes scanning the murky water.

They had excellent patience, standing as still as natural-born hunters, waiting for their prey to appear.

Suddenly, the muscles in the arm of a Hill Giant to Kado’s right tensed. Without the slightest warning, he violently hurled the javelin in his hand!

PLUNK!

The javelin, like a bolt of black lightning, stabbed accurately into the water, raising a small splash.

A moment later, the surface churned, and a large, green-scaled fish over three meters long rose struggling to the top, impaled by the javelin.

The Giant waded a few steps into the water, easily hauled his prize up, and tossed it onto the bank.

Immediately after, a series of whooshes cut through the air as javelin after javelin found its mark beneath the water.

In just ten-odd minutes, a dozen or so large fish lay on the bank, each one big enough to feed more than ten Knights.

Just then, dozens of meters in front of Kado, a massive shadow flashed past.

"A big one!"

Kado let out a low growl, his eyes flashing with excitement.

He bent his knees slightly, putting his core into it and channeling all his power into his right arm.

The thick javelin felt weightless in his hand. He aimed for where the shadow would reappear and hurled it with all his might!

VMMMM!

The air seemed to tear as the javelin, with a piercing shriek, plunged deep into the river, carrying far more speed and power than any of his companions’ throws.

The river’s surface was calm for an instant, then it erupted with a deafening BOOM!

A massive figure, more than ten meters long, shot out of the water, raising a colossal wave.

It was a ferocious Demon Fish. Its body was covered in scales the color of Black Iron with a metallic sheen. A gaping maw took up nearly half its head, from which two rows of sword-like, interlocking fangs protruded, glinting coldly in the firelight.

Its dorsal fin was like a massive bone blade, seeming to slice the very air as it broke the surface.

A Tier Four Magical Beast, the Sword-toothed Fish King!

The river beast let out a pained shriek. Kado’s javelin had pierced clean through its head, and the tremendous force had even lifted half its body out of the water.

The Sword-toothed Fish King thrashed wildly, churning the river into a boiling froth, but its Life Force was fading fast.

Seeing this, several other Hill Giants quickly followed up with a few more javelins, putting a final end to its struggles.

ROAR!

Kado beat his chest excitedly, letting out a roar of victory.

He entered the water himself and, with the help of several other Giants, dragged their massive prize ashore.

When the behemoth was dragged back to camp, it drew gasps of amazement.

The Knights all gathered around. Staring at the aquatic Giant Beast, which was over ten meters long, gave them a much clearer understanding of the Hill Giants’ Power.

"Well done, Kado!"

Raylo walked up, patting the Sword-toothed Fish King’s hard scales, his voice full of genuine admiration.

Kado gave a goofy grin and scratched the back of his head.

Soon, the rich aroma of roasting meat filled the camp.

The massive Sword-toothed Fish King was butchered and set to roast over the largest bonfire.

The Knights generously sprinkled it with the salt and spices they carried. Fat dripped into the Flame with a SIZZLE, and the irresistible aroma assaulted everyone’s senses.

Raylo carved off a large, tender slice of belly meat, placed it on a plate, and set it down beside Baofeng.

Moonlight and Coal Ball enjoyed their own portions at Raylo’s side.

Sun

Kado and his Giants, meanwhile, feasted on the largest and choicest cuts of the Sword-toothed Fish King.

They used Short Spears to pry off huge chunks of roasted fish, stuffing them directly into their mouths. Grease dripped from their lips as they ate, and they let out frequent, contented grunts.

The night by the river was serene and peaceful.

The rushing river provided the perfect background music. A brilliant river of stars stretched across the night sky, seeming close enough to touch.

After a long day’s journey, the hearty meal allowed everyone to finally relax.

The night passed without incident.

The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight pierced the mist and danced upon the river, the entire camp was already stirring.
